I recently had to do a solo in band.
I did ok.

at our winter band concert, 2 minutes before i had my first major solo in band, i started to get really really shaky, almost to the point where i could barely hold my oboe, and i was having a hard time breathing...
luckily, i played my solo wonderfully, but about 10 measures later, i blacked out and nearly fell out of my chair. my band director, as well as the rest of the band, noticed but continued with the rest of the song (except for the clarinet player next to me, who was helping to keep my instrument and me from falling over).
the best part was when we got a standing ovation as i was helped off the stage.

When I play my solos at home, I always play them like I will on the field or in the parade, so I play them as loud as I can, and I try not to breathe during the whole solo, and every time I get to the big long note at the end (all of my solos have had like 3 whole notes tied together at the end) and by the end of it I lie down and I'm shaking wildly.

I had my first solo for soloa dn ensemble this year. I was really nervous about it and told my parents not to come because I didn't really want anyone there. When it's time for my solo a whole bunch of my bandmates come with me to watch! I felt so guilty for telling my parents not to come! crying But I did well and they didn't mind.

I had to do the Solo from Far and Away for marching band. The first time I had to do it I was shaking so badly I almost threw up. I did okay on it but that just freaked me so bad. Haha then at competition they forgot to put the flugal horn on the side line for me I almost cried.

my freshman year I had a solo in Honey Boys on Parade... Its was the second time through the trio and me and another guy had to play the part that is usually played by the woodwinds (I play trumpet) it is 24 measures of 16th note run so you can't breathe also there was a double-tounging part in it... so I played everything ok... but at contest... I choked the double tounge... good thing that only lasted for 4 notes lol

biggrin I remember my first violin solo.
It was hilarious
Well turns out the band teachers both had something completely different in mind. At the concert we were playing 3 songs- "Canon in D", something called "Mississippi Reel" and "Beethoven's 5th".
Now Mr. Yenior, the conductor thought I was solo-ing a shortened part of Canon. My actual violin teacher Ms. Sasaki thought I was doing Mississippi Reel, and I started playing that when Mr. Yenior stopped me in front of everybody and was like "No, wrong song." and then Ms. Sasaki walks up and is like "No, no, no, keep on playing." then my friends in the flutes, cello, sax, and viola are laughing now, cuz I told them I was playing Mississippi Reel.
This is what happened next-
Ms.S- She practiced Mississippi Reel the most, just let her play that!
Mr.Y-Yeah, but we wrote on the pamphlets that she would be playing Canon!
Ms.S- Look, that's just a compressed song and we'd be playing it later anyway!
Mr.Y- But it sounds way better than some stupid jig!
Ms.S- You know you're talking to the composer's best friend.
Mr.Y- You're...oh...well she should still play the stinking Canon!
Me- HEY!
cello, sax, and bass drum- Dundundun duuuuunnnnn dundundun duuuuuuuunnnnnn (beethoven's 5)
everybody-ROFL!!!

I ended up playing Mississippi Reel tho. the cello sax and bass had been planning it in the background according to Jenny, the Cellist.

lol. My first solo, was the flute part from Forest Gump.
It's a pretty little thing, if you've never heard it. Short and sweet.
When I played it at our concert I was nervous at first but it went extreamly well.
Even my BD was pleased. -He's never pleased. lol.

I played Two Hornpipes (Tortuga) on violin for a solo last year.

It was awesome. And probably the only fast solo played at that concert...that was a FUN concert...

Forget solos, Juries! D:

I'm a music major. I just fished my first year. I thought I'd get to cool it a bit after high school and the whole Mozart clarinet Concerto and play a grade 5. No I had Brahms Sonata of Hell for clarinet thrown at me.

This past...week, I played two solos for Jazz band. Im in the begining jazz band...so its a miracle that I got best improv out of all of the advanced and begining jazz!

* FUNNY STORY*
When I got up to recive my first award (for concert band, most improved woodwind) I tripped over some cords. When I got my second award (best improv) I tripped when sitting down...HOW DO YOU TRIP WHEN SITTING DOWN?!!! sweatdrop

I did the bass clarinet solo of blue shades. It was a little tricky for section 4 of it.
