I haven't seen the Fountain yet, but I truly want to. It seems to be an interesting story, considering it's three parallel stories that are linked to each other and have to do with the tree of life and stuff like that.
Perhaps you didn't like it because you failed to understand it. Did you think of that, maybe?

One of my favourite films, although it can come across as a bit pretentious, which put a lot of people off. It is one of a few truly beautiful films I can think of, though, and definately worth watching, whether you like it or not. Aronofsky is probably the best director working at the moment, and this film is to my mind his masterpiece, ignore The Wrestler and Requiem..., they get all the acclaim, but this is where it's at.

Maybe my favorite movie of all time. First time watching it was a bit of an overload for me and I didn't know what to make of it. I watched it a few more times and picked up on a lot of the bits of the story that I'd not noticed and fell in love with it. Beautiful cinematography by Darren Aronofsky as well as a beautiful story. Hugh Jackman's acting was amazing. Rachel Weisz wasn't very good though. >>;;
From what I've heard, most people either LOVE this film or hate it.

The fountain actually isn't -that- old as far as movies go, it was released to theaters in late 2006.
Imdb.com (out of 62,506 votes) has its rating at 7.5 out of 10 stars.
The cinematography, casting and acting.. as well as the message behind the movie was beautiful. Overall it was just poorly executed in my opinion.
The end was so "...? This is it?"
It felt like the end of a grueling love/hate relationship - like you'd been emotionally used for 2 hours and abruptly dumped when it was over with.
For me, I'd give it 4.5 stars out of 10.

It was a crazy, all over the place mess.
But a beautiful, moving, poignant mess.

I found it to be very profound. It's not one of my top ten, but I did take something away from it when I was finished watching it.
