Craft: Healer (Focus on being a Dragonhealer)

Physical Description: Standing at 5’10’’ with a medium build, Cordel is a fairly average guy. He is neither slender nor overly muscular. As a Healer, he doesn’t get much of a chance to exercise much, but he tries to keep himself fit. Thankfully, chasing after impertinent patients tends to help in that respect. His light brown hair is kept cut short, primarily because he just doesn’t want to deal with such foolishness like hair styles. He’ll leave that sort of thing to… well… someone else who cares about that sort of tomfoolery. A very passionate and emotional man, his ice-blue eyes are normally alight with some emotion. Typically annoyance, but, hey, he has a happy side too. At least when he gets to prove himself right.
Personality: Cordel is an intensely moral and compassionate person. It’s just sometimes tricky to see this beneath the layers of snark and occasional cantankerousness. A highly emotional person, Cordel is very much an ‘all or nothing’ type. It’s what makes him a decent Healer; he’s willing to put everything into trying to make someone better, regardless of what cost it might exact on himself because he really does care. He is a man who is ruled by his heart rather than his logic. An odd combination for a medical man, perhaps, but one that works for him. The mind is all very well, but mere logic cannot explain love or courage or any of the other wonderful things human beings are capable of. This point of view often brings him into arguments with Brownrider W’ten.
While Cordel would like to think of himself as a cynic, he’s really too… well, he just can’t. In general, the man is about nine parts bluff, one part action. He may threaten to take away a patient’s numbweed if they got on his nerves, but he never would actually go through with any of his threats. Really, he’d just go off grumbling to himself, possibly to enjoy a nice drink when he’s off duty.
Because of his strong beliefs---and even more so because of his strong emotions----he often gets into fights. His moral side prevents him from making many allowances, since he’s terrified that such a thing might allow him to go down some slippery slope. This keeps him from being flexible about… well… anything. Between instinct and logic, instinct usually wins out. He’s the type of guy to go with his first impulse, even if, later on, that proves to be sort of stupid. Thankfully, his compassion prevents him from doing anything completely deadglowed, like risking someone else’s life.
Pets: Tribble, the green firelizard.
Other/Talents: Well, he’s a good Healer. He’s also decent in a fight, a trait that surprises people who expect Healers to, you know, heal people. He's also good at cooking, a trait he picked up while still a child; his grandparents (presumed grandparents; they're a little fuzzy on the details) taught him how to cook. This later came in use during his courtship of Caysine.

History
He was supposed to be a dragonrider. It was simply one of those things that wasn’t to be questioned. His father, a Brownrider, made it very clear that he wanted to see his son on a dragon, not mucking about with herbs or some such thing. That sort of thing was fine for them that were meant for it, but his son was meant for greater things. Unlike most dragonriders, Cordel’s father took a fairly active interest in his boy’s education and general life. Until he got sick and ended up dying from what should have been an easily preventable infection, when Cordel was 16 anyway.
At that point, Cordel’s life took a rather dramatic turn. He walked out of being a Candidate and into being a Healer. Saving people from Thread was all very well, but what about other ailments, hm? Who would watch the dragonriders? Despite a late start on his education as a Healer, he proved to be remarkably adept at it. He walked the tables fairly recently but is quite eager to keep this a secret. Currently, he focuses mostly on dragonhealing, but this bleeding heart refuses to let anyone go without help, no matter how tempting it might be to let someone suffer. If he lets one person go… well, it’s a slippery slope that he refuses to even edge close to.
He recently transferred to Ista for two reasons: First of all, the recent flu outbreak caught his attention and he’s always willing to travel to those who need his help. Secondly, two close friends of his transferred and he knew that at least one of them would need his help soon enough.
There was also the matter of an ugly break-up, but he doesn't like to talk about that.

This little firelizard was a sort of... err... 'present' from Cordel's ex-girlfriend, Caysine. Only, less of a present and more of a 'well, you got me a firelizard once and I feel guilty that I can't give him back after we've broken up and all so... here's one of his eggs. Now we're even, right?'
In temperament, Tribble is an extremely quiet and sweet-natured little firelizard. When she vocalizes, it's far more likely to be a soft purr than anything else, usually accompanied by nuzzles. She's not very active, preferring to simply lounge around on Cordel's shoulders as often as possible.
She's also a bit shy when it comes to other people besides Cordel. If they approach her slowly, she'll be fine, but sudden movements will send her scurrying right back to Cordel, possibly to hide under his shirt until the scary people go away.
Unfortunately, she'll also be rather fertile later in life.

Firelizards! Firelizards everywhere! They're still relatively rare pets, but it feels like every time I turn around, there are some getting into something they shouldn't! Being a Dragonhealer, I often see the little flitts in my work. I've thus decided that it would be prudent of me to gather a list of all known firelizards in Ista Weyr, along with the colors and owners.

Home Layout and Location
Being a Healer isn’t just Cordel’s craft. It’s his entire life. The location of his rooms point at this, being right across the hall from the Infirmary. Sometimes, he doesn’t even bother walking all the way home and instead sleeps somewhere in the Infirmary.
Cordel never really had time to be a bachelor and this shows in his room. Things are, in general, fairly neat and clean. Like most of the recent transfers, Cordel still hasn’t quite let go of having a proper bed. Although there’s a hammock hanging in the corner of his new home, he prefers the bed. You know, on those occasions when he actually sleeps. The bed in question is actually just a wooden frame with leather straps across it and then overlaid with furs.
As far as furniture goes, that’s about it. There’s a chest at the base of the bed, and a small table that is usually covered with patient cases----written on skin or slates----that he’s currently investigating. There are three chairs, since he’s used to only entertaining one or two people at a time.
Although he has only just moved in recently, Cordel has attempted to put up a few more personal touches to his new home. A few weavings here, some over there… just something to make the place more homey.

Just a Check-Up Shalaera and Cordel Shala has received a firelizard egg after walking on the beach. Hurray! But she's worried about its health and takes it to Cordel.
Welcoming Committee W'ten, K'em, and Corde After a brief trip to Healer Hall, Cordel returns with one non-surprise (Master rank) and some presents for his friends, or at least for his one friend and that guy who follows K'em around.
So Any News? Cordel and La Now bearing the proud title of Master Healer, Cordel learns that La really doesn't care about rank.
