Okay, Hollow Ichigo San has requested some help, and I think the entire guild can pitch in and help him out.

HIS is deaf in real life. That means the way he learned to speak is with American Sign Language, which is not American English Grammar correct at all.

More in this thread:
http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?t=15657599

So my request is this:

When you are Roleplaying with Hollow Ichigo San and he makes a mistake in grammar, or is unclear, please POLITELY request clarification or correct him. This way he can learn how to write correctly. DO NOT jump on him about it, this is how he learned, and we all can teach him proper grammar if we combine our efforts.

Thank you.

Daven Moto

A quick addition (sorry, Daven!) for the sake of everyone else:

If you run into an RPer who seems to have a less than excellent sense of spelling and grammar, please make sure to ask a few questions before assuming the worst. Most importantly, know if English is their first language!

We have had instances in the past in which a new member joined without having as much experience with English as other RPers, and I would hate for someone to be held back by a lack of knowledge rather than legitimate laziness. Please be curteous to anyone who may have their background in another language.

Jan-san

It was just pointed out to me that one of the things we all can do to help those who have English as a Second Language or below average reading or English skills is to set a good example.

This means, spell check, no txt spk, no slang (or minimal slang), not typing like you hear, but like it is in the dictionary, no typing out homie speak or such language.

That means we all are going to have to make an effort, me included.

Isn't there ways to get things like spell check and grammer check on you toolbar?

Firefox 4 and 5 come with spellcheck. I'm sure there is an extension to improve the grammar check in the browser itself. Not sure about Internet Explorer.

Google Toolbar comes with Spell Check on it, you just have to activate it.

Firefox has spellcheck but not grammar check, and the spellcheck seems to be only in American English - I tend to randomly shift between American and British spelling, and it always marks the British spelling as incorrect.

I would be more than happy to help. Does he have MS Word on his computer? What I would suggest is that he types what he wants to post on a clean sheet in MS Word before posting it. Word will correct his spelling and help him with the grammer. If he doesn't have MS Word then he can send what he wants to post to one of us to correct and then we can send it back to him to post corrected.

Anyway, I would like to help anyway I can Captain Moto.

I have seen this problem and will most definitely help any way I can.
Firefox does have a spell-check (as almost everyone here has said) and I am pretty sure it also has a grammar check plug-in available. I'll dig around and see if I can find one. Other than that, I have found iGoogle's translator to work wonders when translating from different languages, it helped me base a character almost entirely in German. Just to give you a picture, everyone thought I actually spike German when I in fact am only fluent in English and French. If you need me to find anything computer related, chances are I will find it.

Okay, Excuse me but I don't have MS word but I only have WordPad on my laptop. Im not sure which where can I find right spellcheck and grammar? I would need help a lot. Sorry, guys I think I make you waste your time since you enjoy roleplaying with people. I hope I don't want any problem if its ok with you? I don't know what I do. Im roleplaying with AMI now in Sunshine Sunset Inn.

Ok, I only rp when I write stuff like small lines like 3 or 4 lines.. I has been seen people a lot like 40 lines or more than me. Daven, since you said that mean spellcheck, no txt spk, no slang or etc.. but I only txt spk than big posts. Im not sure I don't know what I do.. I hate it when you get upset or mad.. like I said I don't want any problem..

Don't worry bro, I dont think anyone will have a problem helping you with your grammatical abilities. Along with this, I don't think that Daven was mad or upset about the txt speak, but rather he doesn't want people to use that type of writing in order to better the guild's literacy and your understanding of English grammar.

As for posts, dont worry about that either. Not everyone has the mad writing skills that Ami, Asuma, or others have, including myself. It just takes a lot of practice and dedication to achieve that level of writing and I know that if you keep at it you will achieve the same or grater heights in your writing. ^_^
