Quinnel/Winath ~ Westren

It was raining. Although it had taken him a while, Westren had grown accustomed to the frequent rain at Ista Weyr. As a matter of fact, he had come to enjoy “good” rain – that which lacked lightning and high winds – such as the current, relatively light downpour. Hands in his pockets, he trudged down towards black sandy shores where his sister had told him to meet her.

“ Westren!” hearing someone calling his name, Westren looked up to spy his sister near the beginning of the beach, leaning against a mottled green mound; Winath, he supposed. Waving back, he quickened to his pace to a sedate jog until he reached her side. She was grinning, and her eyes were sharper, more aware then he was used to seeing around the Weyr; probably because they were alone, he realized.

“ How does it feel it be a Turn older, hm? Feel wiser?”

“ Wetter maybe, but no different from yesterday.” He answered with a shrug.

“ Hm, I feel the same; don’t understand the fuss. Good reason for celebration though, and for presents.” Giving Westren a conspirital look, she added,“ I might have spoken to the cooks. I might have been nice and charming; maybe asked them for some bubbly pies.”

Westren perked up at this. “ Bubbly pie? Really?” Quinnel nodded and Westren grinned. “ Thanks.”

The green lump shifted and Westren soon found himself face-to-face with Winath. Tilting her head to the side, the green dragonet eyed Westren for a moment before questioning Quinnel,‘ Is this some special occasion?’

“ Yes Winath. I told you earlier, it’s my brother’s birthing day.”

' How many turns since he Hatched?' To both Winath and Westren’s confusion, Quinnel gave a snort, then a giggle, and then burst out into full laughter.

“ Western didn’t *snort* Hatch! He was *giggle* born!”

Way down the black shore were Annelie and Yansanth, one a huge, gold blotch while the other was nearly indistinguishable from the given surroundings.

While the queen was not so little anymore, she still firmly held an innocent fascination and love with traipsing through the water and shallow surf. It was all fine and dandy with Annelie as long as the large dragon kept her wings out to provide some shelter from the now steady downpour and didn't stray too far into the waters.

Oh Annelie, won't you come over here? Just right here, where it's barely wet? Won't you?" Yansanth begged, momentarily coming onto the 'dry' rocks and out of the water. She gave a flap of her large wings and set water flinging all over and then swung her neck around and down to her side to nudge Hers.

The action gained some eyeridge scratches, which sent Yansanth crooning loudly, but Annelie didn't budge from her current path. I think the waters are having quite a fun enough time with you only she replied softly. Yansanth gave a whine and moved her head back to look out at the gray waves, giving a rumble in her chest as if trying to mimic the water's roaring.

But Anneeliieee, it's so -- the queen cut off her own thought and momentarily paused in her step, a green gaze transfixed on something up the beach.

Mine! People! Oh how fun, let's go say Hi! She bugled happily and then burst into a rather fast canter, completely unaware that she might come off as terrifying. ... Annelie didn't think that alllll too many people were used to having a gianormous gold dragon running towards them was all that... fun.

The woman didn't yell or call Yansanth back, though. She knew all too well that it was completely out of her hands and all she could do was pick herself into some sort of jog to catch up in a relatively descent time.

Quinnel was still trying to catch her breath when Winath gave a squawk of dismay. That got both Quinnel and Westren’s attention, and they followed the dragonet’s gaze to find a rather large, Gold dragon quickly headed their way. The reactions to this sight were rather different. Westren gaped, before standing and fidgeting nervously; he was only ever close to a Queen during Hatchings. Quinnel’s face slackened, adopting a less aware and less intelligent look, though her eyes were still sharp as she sought to sooth her bonded.

“ Hush Winath, it’s fine.” She whispered, resting a hand on the Green’s back. “ They won’t hurt you.”

‘ Are you sure, Mine?’ queried Winath, her eyes tinged faintly with yellow. ‘ She’s big.’

(( Sorry about the wait -- got caught up in the Hatching fiasco 8D;; ))

Yansanth wasn't the brightest glow in the basket -- a fact that didn't need debate -- but she had enough sense to slow down some good meters before reaching the little group. She was like a Great Dane who thought it was a Chihuahua though, and when she got close enough to see a twinge of yellow swirling in little Winath's eyes, she failed to connect the fear to her own hulking size.

Settling her wings, the young queen tilted her head and then came to a stand-still a few feet away. A curious, but slightly alarmed crooning sound echoed faintly from her throat, and her own green eyes swam with a yellow hue. Little green, what is wrong? You seem scared -- Oh my, have you seen those huge bronzes too!? I saw one not long ago and he was HUGE and I also got frightened! Yansanth began to chime, lowering her stomach to the wet, black sands so as to look at the dragonet better.

She had a small attention span, however, and while still crooning her concern to Winath, she looked to Quinnel and Westren. Oh, is one of these your Mine, little green? she asked, her voice momentarily lifting in spirits. My Mine is Annelie, she's -- Oh, where is she? The Queen lifted a foreleg and a wing, wondering if maybe Annelie had gotten under there. But she hadn't, and Yansanth swooped her neck and looked back down the beach to a quickly walking Anne.

Oh, there's Mine! Wonder how she got all the way back there...? She'll be coming soon, it's ok

{{If that font's too light let me know.}}

At first Winath feared that the Gold would not be able to stop in time, causing her to shrink back slightly. In response, Quinnel began to rub Winath soothingly, humming a quiet little tune until the Gold stopped nearby. Westren was busy gapping, until a faintly amused glance from Quinnel reminded him to shut his mouth.

When the Gold first began to speak Winath was anxious, but her fear and anxiety soon gave way to confusion. The big Gold had not trampled her, and actually seemed rather friendly. Winath relaxed slightly, but decided that it was probably best not to mention that it had been the gold that she had been afraid of.

‘ I did see something big.’ Winath conceeded, whirling eyes trained on the Queen before her.

‘ Quinnel is my Mine,’ she said, twisting her head slightly to look at her willowy rider before looking back at the Gold.‘ and Westren is her clutchmate.’

While this exchange took place, Westren had contented himself with comparing the two dragons. Quinnel squinted at the figure coming towards them, assuming it was the Queen’s rider, and tried to remember her name. Giving up – she had never been particularly good with names – she instead decided to ask Winath.

‘ Winath, who are they?’

Realizing that she hadn’t really introduced herself to the other dragon, Winath hurriedly added,‘ I am Winath.’

((It's fine <3. Let me know if Yan's gold is too bright. ))

Yansanth nodded almost vigorously, her eyes swirling as well. Big dragons are scary, right? I know, she replied softly. When Winath went on, the Queen looked to both Quinnel and Westren respectively and gave a nod of her head to each of them.

Oh how splendid! Yours is lucky to have a clutchmate -- have you met your clutchmates? I don't think Mine has any... she prattled on, but fell quite a moment later and looked about her feet as if trying to find something. No... I will have to ask Mine if she does: Annelie, do you --

"I...I'm sorry for Yansanth intruding on you three," came Annelie's voice as the young woman stepped around the queen's reclined body and stopped at Yansanth's lowered, large head.

The dragon gave an immediate croon of surprised, lifting said head and then nudging Hers. OH, there you are, Mine! I was just going to ask you about something... but I can't remember what. ... Oh well Yansanth concluded, not too sore about forgetting her question. She looked back at Winath and nodded her head when she learned the little green's name.

Winath! That's a pretty name for a pretty green. I'm Yansanth! And my Mine is An--

"Annelie. I'm, um.. Annelie," Annelie said to both Quinnel and Westren, giving a small curtsy with a bending of her knees. Once again she had cut off Yansanth at the punch, but the dragon didn't seem to mind, or even take much notice. "This is Yansanth."

“ Westren.” Quinnel paused, tilting her head as she eyed Annelie. “ Hm, no, I’m not Westren; he is. I’m Quinnel.”

Winath turned slightly and nudged Quinnel, a faint feeling of reproval echoing across their bond. The little Green did not understand why Her's sometimes acted the way she did. In response Quinnel just pat her head and then turned back to Annelie, looking as though she had nothing further to add.

Westren frowned at Quinnel, but knew there was no point in saying anything. The girl, Annelie, was a stranger to Quinnel, and thus would be presented Quinnel’s favored façade’ until she deemed the goldrider to be trustworthy. With faint shake of his head, Westren focused his attention back on Annelia and gave her a small smile.

“ There’s nothing to be forgiven. It’s nice to meet someone new.”

Winath relaxed slightly with Westren’s response, grateful for his more sensible answer. Wondering vaguely where the little brown brother had gone off to – she could use the Flitt’s help – she looked back at Yansanth.

‘ Forgive Mine. Sometimes she can be...’ Winath trailed off, unable to think of a word that wouldn’t insult her rider.

Annelie could only give a small, uncertain and confused look at Quinnel...Westren...whatever the rider's actual name was as she eyed her back for a few seconds. If the woman was playing some sort of mind game, it only caused Annelie to start obtaining an odd impression of the other. But no matter.

"It's nice to meet you," she replied simply, giving a very quick, tiny smile before turning her attention to the younger boy. At his words, she felt a little relieved. "Likewise... and I'm glad that Yansanth's arrival didn't cause some discord. ...I think."

Yansanth kept her focus on the young green. Different? It's OK, green Winath, Mine can act different too. Everyone does. She nodded her head and let her eyes swirl a steady mix or blue and green.

Annelie looked at the small green back at Quinnel's side. "Your Green is gorgeous... by the way. Prettiest I've ever seen. What's her name?" She turned her head slightly towards Yansanth, giving some physical plea for assistance.

The little Green is Winath, Mine~

"Winath. That's a nice name."

“ Hm, yes, Winath is pretty.”

Winath dug her claws into the sand slightly and looked ready to protest when Quinnel tapped her lightly on her forehead.

“ Modest though, yes, and stubborn; she won’t believe me, no.”

“ Perhaps if she hears it enough she’ll give up.” Piped up Westren, a hint of playful affection in his voice. He was quite fond of his sister’s Green, not simply because she had Impressed to his sister – though originally that had played a large part – but also because she was a sweet dragon. During his brief stint as a Candidate Westren had encountered several dragons, but hadn’t met one with as pleasant a temperament as Winath. Well, until now; Yansanth had been nice enough thus far.

“ I don’t mind Yansanth’s presence at all. I have never seen a Gold up close, at least not outside of Hatchings. It’s somewhat amusing that today would be the day I get such a chance.”

Annelie and Yansanth both pivoted their attentions from Quinnel to Westren as each on spoke, Yansanth eventually taking more interest in Winath's modesty and Annelie on Westren's last comment.

"What is amusing with this day?" the young woman asked, tilting her head a little as she looked at the younger boy.

Winath, you don't think you're pretty? Yansanth questioned, her eyes swirling green with small tinges of yellow. The young Queen found it sad and almost baffling that the stunning little green didn't think herself at least a little pretty.
