Chased away again. Hero shook out his bright mane in frustration as he made his way toward the stream. Ordinarily he would have stood his ground and fought off the female’s angry lover. He couldn’t blame that fellow for wanting to protect his mate, even though it was her decision to turn her back on him the moment he wandered over with a few smooth words and an innocent smile. On the other hand, two against one was hardly a fair fight. So Hero ran.

They must have been tired of chasing him. Once he reached the boarders of their territory the two males came to a panting halt and watched him bound off through the trees, his bright tail looping as he ran and flashing under every speck of sunlight.

Finally Hero made it to the stream. “Hello,” he said to the stream, a little surprised. “I remember you being bigger the last time I was here. Heh, we’re all wilting in the heat.” He took a quick look around and bowed his head to drink.

Hero was rather fond of talking to himself when he was alone. There wasn’t any harm in it and hearing the sound of his voice made him feel a little less lonely as he traveled, though he always preferred company. Most of the time he just sang.

The young lioness was in a rather pissy mood to say the least, she was not with her sister thus found things very hard to enjoy. Her whole life she had spent side by side with her twin... and now that they were older they saw eachother less and less. It drove her mad. Her best friend, her sister- her other half was missing and so she felt as though a part of her was gone too. A bitter frown crossed her maw as she stopped and stood still, sniffing the air slightly. She smelt water.

With a deep sigh the lioness moved onward, looking for something to take her mind off of her mad mood.

Hero lifted his head, ears twitching. Someone was coming. Their footsteps sounded almost leisurely, so they probably didn’t plan on attacking him. He shrugged to himself and took a few more laps from the stream until the stranger’s scent hit him. A thin smile graced his lips. Ah, another female. Maybe this encounter would turn out better. He smoothed out his mane and tried to look as if he hadn’t just run three miles.

She had not noticed him yet- truth be told she hardly noticed anything that didn’t involve her and her family. She was… pretty sheltered growing up. With a soft frown the lioness stopped at the stream and swore softly to herself, her ears and tail both pinning back in frustration. She wanted to attack something she was so pissed off. With a deep sign the lioness moved herself lower to take a drink from the water, her body lower to the ground now.

It took her a few seconds to find his scent, but when she did she lifted herself up and smirked. What the hell? He was so bright, it was strange to see. She did not say a word yet though, she was a bit perplexed and taken back by his coloring that she couldn’t form words.

“Ugh… Hey?”

She managed to spit out.

Fur in place, a friendly smile on his muzzle, he sauntered over to the female, almost as if he hadn’t noticed her there at all. Suddenly, Hero noticed a critical flaw in his plan. This female looked pissed.

Maybe he could work with that.

He toned down the friendliness a little, softening his smile. One thing he learned: Never act too jolly around a female when she’s in a bad mood (he did see one male pull this off by being completely goofy once, but goof just wasn’t his style). “Afternoon,” he said, giving a polite nod as he sat beside her. “I haven’t seen you around here before. I’m sure I’d remember seeing such a pretty face. What brings you through this territory?”

He meant territory in a general sense. This area did not belong to anyone in particular as far as he knew.

She frowned somewhat but found the energy to pull out a smile.

“I really don’t know why I am all the way out here. I’ve never come out here before. Perhaps it’s fate, who knows.”

She spoke out to him, answering his question with a slight nod. Moving herself back up to stand she looked him up and down and chuckled.

“And you, bright boy? I’ve not seen a coat of your color in a very long time. Where do you hail from?”

Hero smiled as proudly as if he’d just received a compliment. Time and maturity washed away the shame he felt over his coat as a cub, for he discovered there are far worse things in life than looking like a flamingo. “Where ever the sun’s light touches the earth. I go where I please.” His ears perked attentively. “Is everything alright?”
