Grumpy Bear's One Gold Auction

Grumpy Bear is the odd one out - of all the Care Bears, he alone is constantly in a grouchy mood! He still does caring things, but he pretends to do them grudgingly and always grumbles about having to be nice.
In keeping with his grumpiness, he's decided that he's NOT going to keep the price of his ownership low - he will only go home with the person who can give him the most gold, so he's chosen an auction!
...Only trouble is, he's not very good at adding up...
The starting bid for Grumpy Bear is 1 gold. In order for him to recognise and accept your new high bid, it must be exactly 1 gold more than the last high bid!
(You can only bid in pure gold - Grumpy Bear has no patience with the marketplace and doesn't want to sell an item for his gold.)
There's a catch. Grumpy Bear doesn't like people trying to sneak in at the last minute when he's never seen them before, so there will be no new bidders on the last day of the auction! He won't allow it!
There's another catch, too: if there are no bids for twelve hours, even before the auction has ended, Grumpy Bear will lose his patience and go home with the current high bidder. So you can't just leave all your bids to the last few days!
Other than that, sniping is both allowed and encouraged!
This auction ends on Wednesday May 27th at midday (12 o'clock) EDT (that's the current timezone for anyone in EST - it allows for Daylight Savings) - the last legal high bid will win Grumpy Bear!
