So this past monday I showed up to drum major tryouts for 5 and a half hours to find out that the whore of a b***h won. That tuesday I found out that my band director had already picked out the drum major before tryouts, so she did not even consider anyone else. The girl that won the title, all she does is yell at everyone for no reason, she is a drama queen that cries when she misses a step off or messes up some part of music. My band director also found her and her boyfriend rolling around (and other stuff) on the band room floor one day before class and they did not even get in trouble for it. My director only picked her because she cries and makes everyone feel bad for her and if she did not get it her mother would come up and tear up the school and the girl would quit the band. That is a ton of crap, I am behind in school because of theses tryouts just to find out that it was for nothing. What do you think? Is this right?

aww...Yes, that "other stuff" happen alot during marching season, and I the unsuspecting alto sax am always walking in on it and turning right back around and walking out of the room. I don't know why I'm always the one that's embaraced though. But yea, that's not cool watch she'll like freak out and fall off the podium and cry. I would revolt! Battle cry! haha just kidding.

i would confront your band director about that. That's not right or fair. Everyone deserves an equal shot at a position in the band.

I agree with Rock4ourRock. You definately need to ask your band direector about this. Allow her to explain what happened and why she did what she did. Give her a chance to explain and then ask about the things that are bothering you. You have a right to know what is going on and why.

We did ask and she said that everything was taken in account and she was the best but it was really close between me and her. However I asked my friend, who is the drum major for 09 10 season and she said it was picked before and everyone fought for the girl to not get it but the director already had her picked out....so stupid

Maybe she...you know...won because she really was better then you? And how do you know that the band director really found her and her boyfriend screwing around in the band room? Were you there? Sorry--I understand the need to vent, but bashing a member of your own band (especially the drum major) just doesn't seem that cool.

that is SO Horrible! Our drum major auditions were almost like that. One of the girls that was up against me is best friends with the old drum major, and she had 3 weeks to practice before the rest of us did

I've seen this before just like the ned of the year awards for us the same girl always kept gettin the same awards and no one even liked her yeah same with our band pres and vice is rigged the two people that won by alot didnt get it so everything is practically rigged(at my school the least) oh and about the rollin around the floor thing thats disgusting you should've told your BD to do something about it oh wait her mother would rip up the school right and quit? I say that wouldve been worth it...

Our drum major graduated, and we'll miss her. We had our DM tryouts, and my bf won. She'll be the DM for every song, except the last one. Our awesome drum player will be DM for the last song.
But that sucks. Marching Band is about teamwork, not who's better than who. Drum Majors are chosen for their skill in Marching Band, and their skill at handling the band. They're not chosen before tryouts, or other s*** like that. I'd go to someone higher that the Band Director. Have Drum Major tryouts again, and this time, have two-four people there. Have the old Drum Major, the Band Director, and maybe even a senior who has been in Marching Band for a long time. Try it, then see what happens. That's all the advice I can give.
