If this has already been posted feel free to lock and toss this thread. They plan on giving out a Shiny Milotic in a Pokemon Tournament I'll be at the one in San Francisco on the 16th.If you can construct an awesome team around the Batshit arbitrary rules (I mean Tyrannitar is BANNED but you can use GARCHOMP? FFFFFFFFFUUUUUU-)then maybe you'll enjoy it. Or you could just lose the first round and snag a Shiny Milotic. EDIT - I should probably list all the messed up Rules. Platinum Only Lv 50 or Lower Item Clause No Soul Dew No offensive or misleading names BANNZORED LIST 150 – Mewtwo 386 – Deoxys 151 – Mew 479 – Rotom 248 – Tyranitar 483 – Dialga 249 – Lugia 484 – Palkia 250 – Ho-Oh 487 – Giratina 251 – Celebi 489 – Phione 382 – Kyogre 490 – Manaphy 383 – Groudon 491 – Darkrai 384 – Rayquaza 492 – Shaymin 385 – Jirachi Oh and it's divided into Senior and Junior divisions, so all hopes of crushing little child dreams are dashed. I'm hoping that the allowance of Garchomp will freakout everybody and everyone will just pack Garchomp counters or Hail Teams.

Allow me first to say that I hate everyone who has the chance to attend a qualifier. mad
Now that that's out of the way, Hail teams are proving to be quite rare in this year's PVGSD. Japan's best seem to mostly be running Goodstuffs while the American scene is all about Rain Dance and Trick Room teams. Haven't heard a lot of people vowing to use Garchomp, either. The main contenders more seem to be Dusknoir, Snorlax, Salamence, Bronzong, Ludicolo, Metagross, Gyarados, and Zapdos.
And the rules aren't so much batshit as very odd. Double battles? American players are almost completely single battlers. And Tyranitar is banned because he evolves after the level cap and they're not going to use auto level raisers/reductions this time.

I might just start up a Hail team then.
Dragonite is also above the level cap but they don't mention it.
What is Goodstuffs?

Actually, it's implied that Dragonite IS banned (since the level cap is 50, there's no need to state that anything that evolves past 50 is banned, since it's already implied), except for Toys-R-Us Dragonite, which is L.50 and therefore eligible for combat.
And Goodstuffs is pretty much just a team of strong hitters with no theme or strategy. They're just there to kill you, no setting up or anything. Like, Metagross/Salamence/Snorlax/Ludicolo would be Goodstuffs, compared to Zapdos/Kingdra/Starmie/Swampert, which is painfully Rain Dance.

Is there a Lv 50 Tyranitar then? It must be insanely strong for it to be banned.

But since Tyranitar is so insanely popular in com.bat, its no surprise that they explicitly state it's banned.

I prefer them--- but then again, I run an Earthquake team with Groudon and Tropius. xD; ...And I have no idea where to reach the nearest tourney. D: I'm poor.

Whereas the Japanese scene is predominately DBs... lol

Fox Demon Shippo ....first off, there's a league for this? o.O
Also, Platinum-only pisses me off. Dx Not so much a league. It's paired with the TCG stuff, but slowly is gaining strength. Last year was the first year for this particular one and with only two American qualifiers (one in LA, one in NYC) it really was more of a "If people get tired of watching the TCG, they can watch video games instead" thing, since the VG world finals are held in conjunction with the TCG world finals. It's still more of a side-show thing this year, too.
As for Platinum-only, is sucks if you don't have Platinum, but it makes sense. Platinum has the most up-to-date battle system, so it only makes sense to use it. And allowing only Platinum is to keep the fairness; There were changes to the battle system between DP and Platinum (for example, in DP, Hypnosis has an accuracy of 70%, but in Platinum it was dropped back down to 60%), so it'd be a lopsided fight if DP was allowed, too. :C

Sounds interesting, but I doubt I'll bother. I suck at anything competitive. And I have no strategy whatsoever. I just try to use the strongest, most damaging moves, which works on some people, but not on most and probably not on people who have a well planned strategy. And with it being Platinum only, I don't stand a chance. I have barely made any progress on my Platinum game due to not really having the time to. And they aren't coming anywhere near Florida. D: Though I could possibly make it to the Nashville one, depending. But it's only a month away, so I don't know. I suppose if I happened to be in that area I'd go, though I have no idea what my family plans to do this summer yet. I'd mainly be going to get the shiny Milotic, since I know I'd be crushed in the first battle. XD Also, I was looking over the rules, and it said something about they were going to pick at random 128 people to participate. So that sounds like you could show up to this and not even get picked if there are more than that many people there. So it doesn't really sound worth it to me, especially coming from out of town to something like that.

That's pretty much it; Even if you show up, you stand a chance of not getting in, which pisses me off. It really prevents people who're no where near a qualifier from catching a plane or making a road trip to the nearest one, because who wants to drop $300 on a ticket or spend 12+ hours in a car just to be turned away at the door?
As for the competition, most of the people competing know what they're doing. These are the people who obsessively bred for IVs, EV trained for hours on end, and know that FEAR Smeargle is something to be wary of if they come across it. So my advice, to anyone, is that if you want to compete and seriously want to make it to world finals, make sure you're running more than the rag-tag team you cleared Platinum with.

I'm doing a Rain Dance team. I breed for at least 30 in IVs. Although I'm kinda Lazy when it comes to EV training.
252/252/6 spreads are what I do most of the time.
I don't really see why the tourney organizers couldn't use PBR to play all of the matches. It's got a level adjuster, the battles look exciting, and it might get players intrested in buying PBR.
Then I'd be able to use my Zapados and Electivire combo. DisQuake Spam FOREVAR.

As for the battle environment, I can understand it. They're probably not using PBR because it has an outdated battle system compared to Platinum and DS-DS battles are probably easier to set up and maintain than DS-Wii-DS battles (I know when I went to GameStop's PBR tournament, we were something like a half hour late in starting because the clerks couldn't get the DS-Wii-DS interaction to work and some peoples' DSes still weren't getting recognized by the Wii). Plus, I imagine a good reason for holding the PVGSD to begin with would be to advertise Platinum and boost sales.
But I agree with them not using auto levelers. Those are some of the most lazy features in the game. Using them would mean no one would really have to level their teams (just make sure they were all EV trained) and it would allow Tyranitar and Dragonite into battle unconditionally. Removing all Tyranitars and all Dragonites save for TRU 'Nite helps bring about a more diverse range of strategies, instead of everyone just spamming EQing T-Rars or DD+Outrage+Persim Berry Dragonites.
Plus PBR royally sucks a**. Promoting Platinum over it is a better idea, since I have no met a single person who actually loved PBR and thought it was a great game.

The only reason I would go would be to get that shiny Milotic. I know I don't stand a chance in battle, but that isn't why I play the game anyway.
