please tell me about shiny Pokemon
PostPosted: Tue May 05, 2009 4:45 pm

Really, the only difference between shinies and and normal Pokémon are their colors. Shinies are colored differently than normal. Sometimes it's fairly obvious, like normal orange Charizard versus shiny black Charizard. But sometimes it's a bit hard to tell, like normal light blue Articuno versus shiny slightly lighter blue Articuno.

Shinies are also not anymore powerful than normal Pokémon. In fact, more often than not, they tend to be just a little bit weaker. However, shinies are incredibly rare, so weak or not, people still desire them. The chance of encountering a shiny are roughly 1 in 8000, but you'll know you've got one because when they appear in battle, they're sparkle.

Lol, don't count on it. In GSC, shinies were only inherently strong because shininess was determined by IVs, but the only IV combinations that led to shininess were good ones. This allowed shinies from GSC to retain their shiny status if they were traded to RBY then back to GSC.

But since RSE, the algorithm that determines shiniess has been changed to where shininess is dependent on your Trainer ID (both secret and regular) and the encountered Pokémon's personality value. Why? Because GameFreak could, that's why. (Well, really, it was because there was no need to keep shininess dependent on IVs; RSE's data structures were so radically different from RBYGSC's, there was absolutely no way the gens could be compatible enough to trade in the first place, so there was no need to make sure a shiny traded between RBYGSC and RSE could retain its shininess. But same thing, really.)

shinies just change the original pokemon's color basically. in the other generations you would have to find it by sheer luck in the wild or etc. in d/p you get a pokeradar to detect them out from the grass, but either way, they are VERY VERY rare. the only reason i have some are by trading. mrgreen

There are no difference between shinys and regular Pokemon, other than the fact there's a 1 in 8000 chance of coming across one, and their colours are different.

I wish you could get shiny Legendaries by means other than cheating. I want shiny Rayquaza, which is red and black, much cooler looking than normal Rayquaza. The only reason I know what it looks like is because of an AR cheat that turns all pokemon in the game (Including ones you have) shiny. They don't remain that way though if the code isn't active, or the game isn't in the AR. They also will not remain that way if traded, even if the code is on.

There is an AR code that does make all wild and hatched Pokémon shiny. I use it myself.

However, the only way to get a shiny legendary without an AR is through soft resetting; Pretty much, you save right before encountering the legendary and you keep resetting the game until you encounter it as a shiny. It's an extremely time-consuming activity, but some people are dedicated.

Also, locking this thread because we don't need five million people repeating what I said. neutral
