I had been watching code geass for 2-3 weeks and asked myself "what made me keep watching it?" I think all those battles made me keep watch it. Those knightmares are...... yeah. XD But maybe the storyline too?

I think that the draw is that it works on a number of different groups. There are a lot of people who love brilliant main characters in anime crafting grand schemes, which is what makes Death Note so popular. There are also people who like awesome robot fights, like in any Gundam series. There are those that can't get enough of magic as a story element. And then there are people who watch dramatic love stories. Code Geass has all of these aspects, drawing in people from all of these groups. People don't all like the same things, but Code Geass has such a mix of thematic elements that most can find something to enjoy.

I watched it for the animation and the fact that everyone else was going Ga-Ga over it. I really didn't see the big deal past the amazing animation and music. I mean, I seriously guessed the plot of the series three episodes before due to the way they set it up.

Do you mean there's more after R2, or are you talking about a specific set of episodes?

I misread your post... but it makes sense now! And I posted something to similar effect, saying that I predicted what would be happening in the next episode. Maybe it's because although Lelouch sees the "big picture", viewers see the "whole picture", meaning we have previous insight into characters' actions. That doesn't make it any less enjoyable to watch, of course - perhaps some of the fun is seeing if things play out as you think they will.

I love the strategy, and how Lelouch treats the world like his chessboard, but I also love how just about all the characters have one person whom their loyal to above all else. I didn't really like Death Note, because all the characters felt cold like they didn't really have emotions when in reality most people are greatly influenced by their feelings.

I love Code Geass because of the twist and turns on the storyline. Like who the hell knew that Lelouch was gonna kill Euphie?! And that Rolo was gonna end up killing Shirley? Its so suspenseful with the storyline and the knightmare battles and "mini-wars" make it a better watch.

you also have to love the character development. nobody really stays the same throughout the entire series and even the minor characters have their important roles in the large scheme of things. That along with the strategic aspects and the way the world in it operates; throw in the power of geass which creates a story inside the main story. But what makes the part about geass great is that it isnt solely relied on and doesnt give as much of a big advantage as most anime series do where they give the main character a power and the character uses it as their one true weapon

The only reason I started watching Code Geass was because I saw Suzaku and he automatically became my favorite character. 4laugh And I've finished the series and he still is. What made me keep watching? Suzaku, is one of the main reasons at first. But as the series progressed I wanted to see how it ended. That's all there is to it. :]
