Name: Willis Damont Gender: Male Age: 36 Physical description:Height – 6'2'' Weight – 162 lbs Dusty black hair, brown eyes, and an overall unkempt air. His clothing is generally very formal, slacks, button down shirts and coats. More often than not he has a five o'clock shadow. Willis needs to wear glasses after a lifetime of reading, he's severely near-sighted. Personality: A warm-hearted, soft spoken, and distracted man. He's naturally shy and a bit withdrawn after the death of his wife but realizes that changes must be made for the sake of his daughter and her happiness. History/Backstory: Willis grew up in wealth, went to the best schools, had the best private tutors, and quickly grew into a man in love with his work. Being a creature of habit he lived contently as a bachelor until a few of his friends decided it was time he meet someone in hopes to pull him out of his constant (and worrying) state of work. During a party he is forced to attend Willis meets Sera, a vivacious woman full of laughter and joy. Love blooms between them and after six years of dating Willis finally finds the courage to ask her to marry him. Unfortunately their time together as husband and wife is short. Sera dies during childbirth, managing to bring their daughter into the world before she leaves it. Willis is shaken to the core by the death of his wife. The first few months are especially difficult but having his daughter, named Sera after her mother, gives him reason enough to continue. He tries his best to raise Sera on his own while also keeping his job as a Professor for a rather prestigious college. Other important notes, quirks? A brief time line : Willis (25) meets Sera (20) at the party. Willis (31) asks Sera (26) to marry him. Sera (27) dies during childbirth, leaving Willis (32) with their daughter (0). Willis (36) makes a contract to get an Essence in hopes of having a nanny to look after and keep Sera (4) company while he can't be there. Despite being a major and professor in English Literature Willis is severely lacking in imagination. Name: Sera Damont Gender: Female Age: 4 Physical description:Height – 3'2'' Weight – 37 lbs Dark black hair, and blue eyes makes Sera looking quiet a lot like her mother. She tends to wear dresses or skirts. Personality: A definite daddy's girl. Sera is a wild streak of energy, interested in everything and always asking questions. She has a good sense of humor, another trait inherent from her mother. Sera is a little more mature (for what it's worth) than most children her age would be, having to spend most of her time on her own or under the care of the house maid while her father is at work. Other important notes, quirks? Sera's best friend is her Akita puppy, Aesop. Willis bought Aesop for her in hopes that she'd have a companion to keep her company during the day. Sera doesn't knowingly show it, but the absence of her father has taken some affect on her. She has a tendency to crawl into bed with him at night. She's never really had the chance to play with other children, Willis has never thought to try and socialize her being a recluse himself. She has a hard time meeting strangers (usually).

WillisElst - A rather pleasant man... er. Plant. I feel I could have rather lengthy conversations with him without a glance at the watch. Faolan - Quite the character! I get the feeling he might have a less than honorable means of earning his keep but Sera simply adores him. He seems like a genuinely nice person. Banning - A good man. If he seems shrew it'd probably because he has a business to run. Longway - The receptionist, I'm afraid I didn't have much time to really talk with her to get any feel for her. Misha - What a remarkable thing, this is an Essentic. I have considerably less fear after meeting him about how my own will turn out. Ellandra - What a shy little thing. She seems very nice. SeraElst - He's a rose bush! And he MAKES HIS OWN CANDY! Faolan - I'm going to marry him. Banning - He frowns a lot. Longway - Misha - He can turn things invisible and he's soft and he's nice and I love him. Ellendra - She's beautiful!

Prelude Late! The day had started out smoothly enough. He'd made it to the college on time to give his lectures. It was immediately after his last class of the day that he'd lost track of everything. A few of his students had asked if he could stay a while to answer some questions, there'd been papers to read and grade, and then at the last minute a fellow professor had begged him to give his lecture for him. He had been due back home more then six hours ago. Reaching for the doorknob he gave it a turn and swung the elaborate front doors of his home open only to find complete chaos inside. Immediately within the foyer he espied the potted daylily overturned, dirt scattered across the rug and onto the hardwood floor of the hallway. With a sigh Willis tucked his coat over his arm and set about righting the pot which was, thankfully, unharmed. The same could not be said for the delicate flowers, however. Only a few of the vibrant orange flowers still lived. Standing, the scholar followed a small trail of dirt further into the house. With a pang of horror he realized it lead to his study. He already had an idea of what was going on and to think they had made it here?! Willis steeled himself for what he knew was the inevitable and opened the door. “Daddy!”Willis had to lean against the door frame to keep his feet under him. Scattered throughout the room were bits and pieces of paper, many of them sporting scribbles of color. The chair behind his desk was pulled out into the middle of the room and turned over and a great, white sheet attached by some means between it and his desk. In the center of it all sat a small girl, one arm thrown over the back of a very large puppy. “Oh... Sera...” Willis slid his fingertips beneath his glasses to press against his eyes briefly. When he slid his palm down over his face he gave a small wince. Everything was still there. He stepped over lose papers only to hear the crunch of broken glass beneath his heel, looking down to see an overturned lamp and a smashed light bulb. Looking up he gave his small daughter a curious glance. “Aesop did that!”“He did?” Willis wound his way through the remains of countless books, crouching down so he was eye level with the little girl. “And why is he inside?”Sera looked down at her hands, recognizing the beginnings of one of her father's scoldings. “I let him in.” She grabbed the front of her dress, which was streaked with dirt, and looked up earnestly into his face. “But he was lonely! He's all alone out there all day, it's not fair!”A small pang of guilt made it feel as though his chest was tightening. Willis gently reached out, stroking Sera's head and smoothing out her dark, dark hair. Without a word he gathered his daughter up in his arms, lifting her up with him as he stood. He could feel her little hands winding into the fabric of his shirt, returning his hug with warmth and affection. “Alright.” He kissed her forehead and walked her out of the room, Aesop trailing behind. “Let's get you cleaned up and then we'll have dinner together. Are you hungry?”“Yeah!” Having just escaped a lecture, a spanking, or perhaps both, Sera was in decidedly high spirits. Willis listened distantly as she continued to chatter away at him about what she'd done that day. In a small corner of his mind he wondered, though... was it the puppy that had been lonely or his daughter? Willis smoothed a hand over the glossy black locks of his daughters hair, leaning down to gently kiss her forehead. The girl murmured something in her sleep, turning over and curling up. He sat at her beside a moment longer, watching her sleep. “What will I do with you?”Retreating to his study Willis frowned, hands on his hips as he looked at the disastrous state of his sanctuary. He'd come home late from work today only to find plants overturned, books torn to shreds and the puppy let inside. Sera had constructed a fort out of his desk, a chair and sheets in the center of the room, a wad of papers (pages from his books, no doubt) heaped in a pile beneath. With a muted groan he knelt down and began to pick up the scraps and fragments of paper, pausing a moment to look at a scribbled drawing of what could only be their new puppy, Aesop. She'd used a page from one of his older books for that one. It was his fault, really. The maid had agreed to watching Sera during the day while she was there to clean, even cooked meals for her. He couldn't ask the woman to stay away from her own family if he wasn't back by the time she was to go home. He'd been extraordinarily late today... Sera must have been alone for at least four hours, perhaps more. Eyebrows raised as his fingertips touched against a material smoother than the other papers. Shifting them around he brought this mysterious item to the front, a soft gasp escaping his parted lips. Where had she gotten this from? Very gently Willis traced a finger along the photograph of his wife. She was laughing. He couldn't help but smile back at the image with a touch of sadness. She'd been making fun of him for some reason or another when he'd snapped this particular picture. Why would Sera have gotten this picture out, though? It just wasn't like the girl. Was she lonely? He had to admit to himself, a dog was all well and good but it wasn't someone who Sera could talk to and get a reply back from. She needed something more... a person. A nanny who could be with her throughout the day. They didn't come cheap, though. He and Sera might be well off enough to live in such a large house with a maid but a stay-at-home nanny? “Wait.” Willis stood up from beneath the make-shift fort and moved towards his desk. Papers covered the top, most of them covered in scrawling doodles of trees and birds. He shifted through the various scraps until he found the one he'd been looking for. Opening up the envelope with Essential Biotics Inc. in print on the front he took out the letter inside. For a moment he gave a short chuckle – Sera had drawn a picture of what he assumed was himself walking Aesop (rather, it was usually the puppy that walked him). Shaking his head he focused on the words beneath the art. Yes... he remembered correctly. It was worded in quite a circumlocutory way but in the end it was an enormous offer being made. Willis had set it aside at first, thinking he had no reason to take up such a thing. An Essentic. He'd remembered hearing stories from his father who'd had one of his own. Their slaughter had been quite brutal and thorough, though. Willis' great-grandfather had destroyed the one the family had owned after it had made a drastic change. If what his father had told him was true... the things that the Essentics could become... could learn. The letter only helped to confirm these childhood tales. A tool for him to use, provided he be discrete about the whole thing. And most of all... from the sounds of it... free. Perhaps... perhaps he would meet with this stranger.
