"I'm ti~red." The drawn out whine came from somewhere slightly behind her father.

Willis paused, turning to look down at his daughter as she stopped, reaching up to rub her eyes with her small fists. He smiled fondly, reaching down to lift her up into his arms. "Up you go. Come on, just a little further." Immediately she snuggled against him, resting her head against his shoulder and wrapping her hands around his neck. Absently Willis patted her back as he continued walking in the growing dusk.

It had been an exciting day for her so far. A trip to the park, meetings with strangers that had unexpectedly become rather good friends, the flower shop, candy, magic tricks. It'd been a while since she'd had to much excitement. There was still one more thing, though. Something rather important and part of the real reason he had actually asked for the day off.

Willis stopped a moment in front of where the shop should be. He glanced around, frowning in confusion before he realized that it was nothing more than a little shop front wedged into an alley.

He took a deep breath, then pushed through the front door.

The inconspicious coloured door gave out into a neat hallway, with black-lacquered wooden walls and a fiery warm red carpet on the floor, leading past a door labeled 'Staff only' into a much more spacious lobby area.

At a pristine asian-styles antique desk -it must cost a fortune in upkeep alone- a green-haired young woman was working, rifling through files and stacking them neatly. When she heard them coming, she stopped in the middle of a motion, glanced up from her work.

"Oh."

Wow, there they were hmm. Longway straightened up behind her desk, smiled at the man and his daughter with a professional-welcoming air.

"Good afternoon, welcome to Life Essentials." she greeted them with her clear, slightly too casually toned voice, watched them both with open interest.
"... I presume you have come in response to our invitation?" she almost sounded like she was going to start purring lavishly any moment. Why yes, she liked her job. It made her look twice as charming. Not that she was extraordinarily so to begin with, but it helped show her staus nd confidence a whole lot.

From the Staff room, break room, coffee room, no matter, Misha dared to come take a look. For now he kept himself invisible as he quietly tread after the man and the little one, pretty much peeking past him at how his Owner would handle this again.

Willis stepped forward, a little hesitant. This was it. There was no reconsideration or turning back now. He gave a nod of greeting, shifting Sera from one arm to the other, a soft, tired groan the only reply from the child. She opened her eyes briefly, looking past her father's shoulder towards the door behind them, then slid them shut again.

He extended his newly free hand to the woman behind the desk. "Thank you. Yes, I'm Willis Damont. I've set up an... appointment." He was anxious. The brief thought that this might be some elaborate way to trick him into being guilty of possession of an Essentic.

As she caught onto his uncertainty, the general impression only made stronger with the little sleepy girl in his arms, Timka's manner watered down to a more warm, reassuring and guiding conduct. She shook his hand with a firm, but nowhere near crushing grip.

"Mister Damont, certainly." she smiled, let his hand go and strode from behind her desk. "If you would make yourself comfortable here while I go fetch master DeLonghy?" she suggested mildly, gesturing at the cosy little corner of low couches arranged close together around a sturdy little table that appeard to have been made out of onyx stone.

"And if there is anything we can get to accomodate you and your daughter, feel free to ask Misha."
she added, already moving to the other end of the room to take the staircase to te upper floor where Banning resided in his office. Sh gave a little cheeky grin, and the Alter let his shield drop, shimmering back into full visibility.

"Sorry..."
oops, he hadn't meant to be rude.

Sera's sleepy eyes blinked a bit wider. Did that person really just appear out of air? She stirred, shifting in her father's arms so she could hunker down. Only her eyes peeked over the edge of his shoulder as she watched the stranger. Fao's magic had been amazing but she had to admit... it wasn't anything like that had just been.

"Oh. Yes." Willis nodded, turning towards the couches. He gave a small start as he saw the young man standing in what had been empty space moments ago. He gave a nervous smile. "Hello, there. You're Misha?" He walked over and set Sera down so she could sit on the couch cushions, settling himself down beside her.

Sera leaned over towards her father, never taking her eyes off the stranger. "He's magic." Her voice was an awe'd whisper.

Willis gave a small chuckle, ruffling his daughter's hair. "Sorry, sir. She's been going on about magic tricks all day long."

Ah yes, so while Timka was up and away, she left him to what now... be the coffee lady? That wasn't exactly in his job descritption, but Misha'd gladly provide for them. That little human he found an absolute delight to observe. He had no idea what it was like to be a smaller version of himself, and his experiences and vague memories of his early Proto stage he didn't think were comparable to being a 'child'.

"Yes sir, I am Misha."
he smiled pleasantly and he introduced himself, and gave a gracious, playful bow, making his ears shift over his shoulders and remain slung over them when he straightened again.

"Aah, magic... That was magic, yes. I don't mind, she IS right after all... She's so smart." That last part he breathed out with admiration. Such a little thing and yet so savvy already, unheard of! With that gleeful twinkle in his eyes, it was hard to hide that he wanted to do nothing less than pick her up and examine her on all sides and tickle her. How precious.
Also it was rather odd to consider that all in all, little Sera had more experience than Misha himself, she was almost three years older than him!

"And... honestly, I'm no sir or mister, mister Damont. I'm Misha, just that." he smiled brightly again. "Master Banning should be here any moment now, is there anything I can get you both?"

He LIKED these people already.

Willis couldn't help but feel a small jolt of surprise. He'd never really known anyone who could actually use what was called magic and here this boy was admitting rather boldly that he had used it. He paused curiously as he watched what he'd mistaken for rather long hair trail down over Misha's shoulders. They looked rather like...

"Bunny ears." Sera slid down off the couch, hesitating in a sudden display of shyness. Willis did a small double take from his daughter to Misha - they DID rather look... rabbit-ish.

"No thank you, Misha. And please, if we're going to be on a first name basis then I'd really rather you just call me Willis. This is my daughter, Sera. Sera, be polite." The last was a gentle warning, as the little girl had slowly crept forward until she was standing right in front of Misha. She tilted her head as far back as she could to look up into his face.

Reaching into her front dress pocket she fished around a bit before pulling out a small lump of something clear colored, holding it out to Misha. "It's sugarcane reed candy." Figuring the offering of sweets would be enough of a distraction, Sera proceeded with her plan. Reaching out very slowly with her other hand, she boosted herself up on tip toes, going right for one of those long, soft looking ears.

At least she wasn't going for him bum-tuft.

Misha flushed over faintly when his odd characteristics were openly mentioned. Usually he didn't mind, but to meet new people and be so frankly told was just that mite awkward. He knew people weren't supposed to be like himself, and it still stung a little that he hadn't been able to get through his earlier stage without picking up a silly influence.

The Alter nodded at the man's offer, listened to him introduce himself and the little spunky lass. "Oh, it' all good..." he wouldn't try to convince him there was no reason to be on the same name basis, and not just because Misha was an amployee and mr Damont a customer, but he did think Sera did nothing wrong.

"There's no reason why she shouldn't tell the truth." When she approached him, he kept looking at her, nicked his head to the side a little when she fussed into her pockets.

"Ooh." Candy... candy! It was so hard to keep the twinkly-eyes glint back at the reveal, but he wasn't enraptured quite enough not to notice that other small hand of her begin to venture elsewhere. Ah, that was enough reason to take his mind of the sweet pieces of heaven and wok with her a little bit. He leaned over just enough to allow her to touch one, anticipating a followup yank already. He glanced up at Willis with a slightly apologetic smile. Awwww let her. How often DO you get to play with a huge bun-bun hm?

Stacatto, driven steps on the stairs announced another person joining them, and soon, Banning strode into the Lobby. He had his usual stack of rather worn-looking documents with him, and this time, he preferred to sort them out on the desk and leaving the ones he wouldn't need right there.
It had been a while since he'd had an encounter in his own domain with a child, but if he recalled correctly, he really didn't want to take any risks here. Remaining quiet at first, the noble surveyed the trio, until he made up his mind about whcih pen to use, and came over to the salon.

"Good day mister Damont, little miss."
he greeted them with a calm smile, that never lost that hawkish subtone, but at least he didn't look too overwhelmingly stately. Leaving Misha to deal with the youngling, he extened his hand towards her father. "My name is Banning I DeLonghy. I am pleased to see you respond to my invitation."

Rather than the violent tug Misha seemed to be expecting, Sera very lightly touched the proffered ear with her fingertips. She gave a small sound of interest, changing the faint touch to a soft stroke. She liked the feel of it, soft and so, so fluffy. They were better than Aesop's ears, even. One hand still held out to offer the candy, Sera leaned forward and pressed her face into the fluffy ear, sighing contently into the fur.

Willis looked up from his daughter, the soft smile still on his face, as the newcomer arrived. A very gentlemanly looking fellow stepped up, offering his hand and an introduction. He stood up, taking Banning's hand in his own and giving it a firm shake. "Pleased to meet you, sir. I'm Willis Damont. And yes... I have found the offer made. Well, unable to resist." He let go of the others hand, letting his own fall to his side. He remained standing out of politeness, but he had nothing more to say.

How was one supposed to bring up the exchange of something that could or could not be considered rather illegal, at least in recent times?

How to bring it up? Why, by just moving onto the next item on the protocol list, of course. Not a word mentioned about the louche edge to the case.

"Likewise."
Banning politely gestured at him to please take a seat, and sat down on the other side of the onyx table himself.
"I will assume your knowledge about what you are about to receive extends far enough to last you for a while. Incase there are problems, we are always available for... customer service." he coughed into his hand dryly. Yes, service, you're the customer and we're the nursing staff and psychological centre, to clean up messes people might, no, WOULD make with their new tools. The Essentics weren't exactly fool-proof.

"So we agree you will have most benefit from a Social type Spark. I assure you, their loyalty is rivalled by not even a dog's." he continued, flicking a glance over at Misha.

The messenger-bunny was quite enjoying the sweet-natured attention, and was smiling blissfully when the little girl so clearly appreciated his fluff. He did do his very best to stay clean and well-kempt, even if he had a bit of a dislike for getting wet.

"All I require of you is your promise to me, in good faith, that you will show the proper discretion about your purchase, and this shop, of course. If you feel you require extra surveillance, the network that brought you in touch with me will gladly aid you in avoiding needless attention."
He said it almost disinterestedly. Why yes, we've been spying on you and your dauhter for a short while. I hope you can forgive us for taking careful measures in selecting our candidates.

"If you would be so kind?"
he slid a worn, classy paper over the table towards him, the Contract, and laid an ornate pen beside it. "This is merely a token of our deal, it is of no legal power whatsoever."
Indeed, the contract was marked by a distinct lack of 'fine print'.
PostPosted: Thu Apr 23, 2009 2:25 pm

Willis picked up the piece of paper, reading over it regardless of it's lack of 'fine print'. It seemed legitimate enough... and it guaranteed assistance if he needed it. It made him rather uncomfortable to think that perhaps he and Sera had been monitored without him realizing... would a completely legit business do something like that?

Willis' hand hesitated over the pen. "There's... there's no danger, is there? You guarantee me that this Spark won't be able to harm myself or my family in any way?" He moved his hand entirely away from the pen now, in fact. He had some questions, and he wouldn't let this Banning's cool demeanor balk him from asking them. This was going to be Sera, ultimately, and he had to be sure it was the right thing. "There isn't any question about my discretion, I'm a man who keeps to himself. You've probably already seen that." The last comment held no hostility... it was simply an thoughtful observation on his part.

Sera was oblivious to the seriousness of the conversation. She leaned back from the rabbit ear, looking up again into Misha's face. Crooking her little finger she motioned for him to lean down towards her, her upturned face glowing with some burning question she wanted to ask.

"Danger? No more danger than any other tool or servant around. Social Sparks would rather destroy themselves then harm a person, I assure you, and unless you allow it to mimic sharp items or dangerous animals, there is no reason why it should be hazardous." Banning assured him, in a rather flat business tone. He wasn't trying to overwhelm the man with fancy facts, no, this was his answer, based on what he knew was true.

For a moment, he wondered if he should pick up on that next trail of the conversation, and decided playing open was the best option.
"We have indeed gathered you are a man we believe we can trust. You would not have received our offer hadn't it been so. I take pride in selecting my candidates with care, as the success of this busines greatly depends on... mutual respect."
he eyed him with that calculating gaze once more, but the hawk within was calm, and rational.
"Do you have any other concerns? Or can we move onto the next step now?" His question was genuine, he didn't sound rushed. The pen and paper lay ready.

Misha hummed in delight at the treatment he was receiving from the little girl, and when she so deliberately beckoned him, he leaned down with a slightly silly look on his face. Oh, you want to talk to me in private? How exciting! X°
"Yes, miss Sera?" He made sure not to talk too loud.
PostPosted: Thu Apr 23, 2009 2:55 pm

Willis sighed, pushing his glasses up so he could lightly rub his eyes. "I'm not sure, does the next step answer questions about this entire... mimicking and. Oh." He sighed, reaching down to take up the pen. He glanced over towards his daughter, standing on her tip toes with her hand cupped around her mouth so she might better whisper into Misha's ear.

She'd met three new people today... and she'd seemed to take to them immediately. Maybe he was just fooling himself when he thought that Sera wasn't good with strangers. She was four, she needed contact... interaction.

The expression on his face would make anyone looking at the older man think he had the weight of the world on his shoulders - and for all Sera mattered to him, he did. With a small nod more to himself than Banning he set pen to paper, quickly scrawling out his name in cursive on the dotted line.

"Can you make me disappear, too?" She leaned back, looking intently into the bunny-boy's face.

"Ah, for those unfamiliar with Essentic Influences, we do have a handy little flier prepared. If you ask my assistant before leaving she'll give it to you for future reference." Yes, okay. Banning might be greatly 'into' the Essentic study, but he was no scientist, and had no passion for explaining people things in great detail about them. While he knew it was a necessary evil that he had to, he'd really prefer it if they would find out themselve over time.

"When the Essentic first emerges, it'll grow and learn quickly. Almost from day one they're capable of doing what their task required of them, but it lies in their nature to become more like humans. It is not only more convenient, but also safer for them. It happens on occasion that they take certain stimuli to heart and adapt their characteristics... for example, Misha was exposed to a rabbit-Influence as he was developing. The results are clear."
Bane explained him. He would give no more details on the how and why, because quite frankly, nobody really knew those things. Finding out those mechanisms was one of the reasons he had for the existance of this setup.

While he had been speaking, Banning had taken back the pen and paper, rolled up the parchment and sealed it. He had stood up, moved to the other end of the Lobby, where he then ended his explanation, excused himself, and entered his storage room. Always dark, always shielded.

Not long after, he sat himself down again, and put the little ivory chest he had in his hands down on the table. With a little flick of a fine mechanism, he opened the box, and unveiled a pale, clay-toned rock settled on a bed of lace-lined silk. On its surface, a lazily swirling mass of pale blue shimmer revolved in an ellips, emitting loose tendrils of ectoplasm.

"This is the Spark." He eyed Willis carefully, allowing him to take a better look. He'd set it so that he wouldn't attract the little girl's attention too much, hopefully. Her father still had to infuse it, only the would it be okay for her to touch it.

Misha smiled at her fondly, and nodded at her question. "I can, for just a little while. It's a very hard trick. And I would be very sad if you dissappeared forever, you're so beautiful to look at."
And the flatterer wasn't even lying.
