mrgreen I am working on a 2011 update. The updates will be available via my wordpress blog as soon as it is finished. In the meantime, there will be many updates visible here as I go.

With more than 150,000 iPhone apps and thousands of Blackberry and other phone apps now on the market, I thought I'd devote a thread to listing and reviewing the apps which have been developed with the environment in mind. This thread has expanded quite a bit since it was begun more than a year ago. The number of apps in the Apple store was only 40,000, and Samsung had not even launched their store yet. I have added many new categories, with more still to come. I hope you enjoy the guide!

Have you tried any of these apps? Reviews are welcome! Know of any apps I missed? Please post!

Disclaimers: All costs, ratings, and descriptions here come from the Apple App Store, unless the app is not available for Apple devices, in which case it is taken from the first device makers app store listed under "compatibility." Descriptions may be directly copied from or summaries of the descriptions in the app store, with no distinction made as to which method of describing the app was used, and may contain personal commentary. The descriptions given should not be taken as a personal recommendation to buy or not buy a particular app. All ratings and prices are current as of their list date, which indicates the date that the app was added to this thread, not the release date of the app. If an app is from a source other than the official app store for the device, I will try to note it in the description. Note for iPad users: I have added your device to the listing! Look for new listings for iPads! Note to Samsung users: Your official app store has launched! Look for apps for more apps for your device being added to the list soon. Note to Nokia Users: I was unable to find any official green apps in the Ovi app store on my last visit, am now going to check again.

Using This Guide:

Apps can be searched by category by clicking the links in the table of contents below. Apps can also be searched by the device type (iPhone, Blackberry, etc) they run on by hitting the ctrl key and simultaneously pressing the letter “F” in Firefox or IE to activate the search function, and then typing in the name of the device and pressing “enter” and then “next” to find the first and subsequent apps supported by the device.

Table of Contents:

Green News Feeds and Green Tip Generators

Green-Themed eBooks

Reusing and Recycling and Measuring and Monitoring Pollution

Energy: Improving Energy Efficiency, Your Carbon Footprint, Solar Energy, and Lowering Your Cell Phone Energy Usage

Games

Green Wallpapers and Themes

Green Shopping: Retail Directories, Shopping Guides, and Paperless Coupons

I don't have an iPod touch, but I think you can use most of them. The green news feeds and the tip generators need an Internet connection to function fully.
