I didn't know exactly where to put this. sweatdrop

anyway, I thought of several ways to reduce the use(or put to good use) the electricity used with cell phones.

1. Get a smartphone. This way, you can use the internet using your phone, instead of a computer (cellphones use a LOT less power!)If you turn off/shut down your computer when you're done using the internet, you won't have to reboot it. With smartphones, you basically have a mini computer,MP3 player, videogame system[provided you know where to look] memopad that can be faster than writing/finding a peice of paper and a pen to write on,and can seem VERY buisnesslike to and potential employers(organization tool).and you can back up your data on your computer when you get home. Sadly they can be pricey, but there's a wide selection. Do research before buying one. Some sites will rate everything, even battary life!

2. Try to get all the things you need in one device. I recall in another thread about phantom charges. Well even when you turn off things like your laptop, regular cellphone, and other devices, the battary drains.

3. Don't charge at night. Charge your device in the morning when you get ready for school or work, so you minimalize the time it's on the charger after it gets fully charged.(keeping it on after its fully charge can deplete overall battary life too)If you can, turn off your cell when you sleep(cause how often do you text/talk to people on your cell while you're sleeping? *silence* exactly.

4. Unplug chargers when you're done with them. They use more energy than the phone needs to charge!(mabye invest in a car charger if you drive a lot,non-smokers too, can get good use out of that cigarrete lighter!)

5. Instead of buying those handwarmers made out of charcoal and whatever else, use your cellphone. Battaries will deplete faster when they are warm, and the coolness of your hands will cool it down, and the phone will warm your hands.(i do it all the time!) 3nodding

6. If you need to buy an external memory card (like micro SD card) don't get one too much bigger than you NEED. If you have a 10 gig card and only need 2 gigs for all your data,it takes a LOT of power for your cell to "back up" the empty space. you could also get a case for larger cards to carry games and such, to keep it from draining your power.

7. You can also turn off certian things when not using your devices (like wifi, bluetooth, or just turn off the service when you sleep. Ask your service provider how to do such things,or if your cell is uncapable of it,take out the battary at night.

8. Get a cellphone with a long battary life. This will keep you from having to charge it very long each day, giving you more time to do other things you need to do outside of your house/in town (where there is no charger/useable wall outlets) Note: Some battaries will experience a longer life if you deplete them compleately(on a normal basis) before recharging, other battary lives will diminish quite rapidly if you do that. Read your user manual or call your service provider to find out hich is the best to do with your battary.
Sorry it's lengthy. sweatdrop

Those are some good tips. Though I do keep my cell phone on 24/7 because of my job. I do however use the internet on my phone very regularly, especially if I just want to check something quickly like emails or movie times.

Also if you let your battery drain completely before charging it, your battery will have a longer life.

Another good thing to mention is that a lot of electronic stores have bins where you can put your old cellphone batteries to be recycled, and sometimes your old cellphones (and other electronics) too.

that's awsome!(the bins)

and i didnt know that. My dad has always drilled into me that rechargables lose battary life faster if you let them deplete more. o.0

different kind of battary i guess.

Edit: well at least you can keep your computer off more!=3

With my last cellphone the battery lasted 3 years, and I always let it die completely before I charged it.
