from what i've seen there aren't that many here prove me wrong
Edited because your title needed some real spelling. Since I'm feeling nice I'm not touching the post itself, though, but I don't think they told you otaku need to learn how to spell. - Razor
P.S: Japanese words aren't pluralized like English words, an otaku would know that too.

rolleyes And what makes you a "real otaku" anyhow? Do you have enough obscure anime/manga read to boast such title, or is this just the bored talk of a bored mainstream anime 'otaku'? Here's a challenge for you. Name five anime shows that aren't mainstream and the names of their creators (both drawings and plot.) Only then you might be able to be an initiate in the real arts, grasshopper. And, I wouldn't put up a challenge I can't pass myself. With over one hundred anime/manga watched/read (either partially or complete) to date, I think naming five obscure ones, their creator and their plot is a rather easy task. But I think this is just a little thread started out of boredom by a mainstream junkie. Now, how 'bout you prove me wrong? Edit: And in case you really think I'm just talking here, check this out.

Nice. I haven't read/watched any of those yet, and I didn't know about the one up first. That's part of why I threw out my own challenge: I am always looking for new anime and manga myself, and wanted to see if you had anything new to offer. mrgreen

Yeah.
See, another reason for the "challenge" is that, when confronted, otaku-wannabe will pull out Cowboy Bebop, Noir or Negima as "obscure." Those up there, however, are quite obscure shows and from what I've read on them (four of them,) they're quite good too. Which is something I can't say about all the mainstream stuff, some shows make me wonder how they are popular being that they're downright boring and unoriginal.

Well that's true too many people are mainstream and i hate that and alot of people won't even watch a show if a show isn't dubbed if they watched some subs instead they could possibly pick up on japanese but hey thats just what i think btw which is the one that isn't good

I didn't mean one of those isn't good. I meant that one of those, I haven't read anything on (as I mentioned before.)
I try to always go for subs first, whenever I can get them (my internet's crap, so it takes me weeks to download some shows, which is why I go for manga most of the time.) That's how I was saved from thinking Powerpuff Girls Z was s**t. If you watch the dub (any dub, I've seen it in four languages so far and they all reek,) you'll think the show's rather stupid... But nope, stupid dubbers could make even Akira look stupid. (Ask the Spain dubbers of that one...)

It makes you a thief. You were SAVED from thinking PPGZ was s**t? How when that show is s**t?

I suppose not everyone can like a show that's not full of blood, sex and/or idiots with big swords/guns.
Also: I think Evangelion is quite overrated, and Cowboy Bebop is overblown s**t. But I'm not going around trying to pick up fights with fans of either shows.
Guess that means I'm not an otaku, either. If that's the case, then I'm glad I'm not an otaku.
Also: Check on the real meaning of the word, and why I think it's funny people bitches and moans about "omg don't say shonen-ai cuz it iz bad!" and then call themselves otaku without knowing what that makes them. lol
And nope, stealing anime doesn't make you an otaku, it makes you human. I'd love to see anyone get all the stuff I have watched/read legally. Just check that one thread that's on the second page of this part of the forum, and add another twenty or so manga right now, since I'm always looking for new obscure manga to read.
Yes, it's stealing, and I'm sure 'up there' it's a lot easier to get that stuff, but to me, for example, there's no choice between legal manga or illegal downloads of manga (except for Naruto, Bleach and Negima... And only the first's got a decent manga translation to Spanish anyway.)
But, of course, I'm not keeping every piece of garbage I download. Why keep bad shows/manga around, when my HDD space isn't unlimited, and I need most of it for gaming?
