Okay, here I'll post some facts about known (or unknown) anime that I've watched through the ages I've been fan of the genre. These are all real facts, even though some may look funny/"un"possible. Did you know...
- ... that the first anime to be known worldwide was Tetsuwan Atom (Mighty Atom) known in occident as Astroboy, but it wasn't the first anime show ever? The first one dates from 1943, and is a propaganda piece on the Japanese attack to Pearl Harbor. - ... that the show known in occident as "Robotech" is actually a condensed version of several shows, and that at least one of those shows isn't really related story-wise to the others? - ... that there's a Little Women anime version? - ... that there's a Huckleberry Finn anime version? And Tom Sawyer, too, had his own anime. - ... that during the first decades of anime, magical girls were almost unexistant, and most heroes were male? - ... that magical girls existed way before Sailor Moon (first memorable one being Cutey Honey,) but what Sailor Moon had that they didn't was the "sentai" concept adapted to it? (Sentai was the ages-old style of three/four/five heroes working as a team, often with colored themes and elemental powers, and often using giant robots to fight.) The combination was later on used by almost every new magical girl show released. - ... that Dragon Ball exists as an anime since 1986, coincidentially the same year Saint Seiya/Zodiac Knights was released? - ... that the period from 1986 to 1990 is to many a milestone, due to the number of shows released then that became classics: Dragon Ball, Saint Seiya, Kimagure Orange Road, Maison Ikokku, City Hunter, Gundam ZZ, Yoroiden Samurai Troopers (Ronin Warriors,) Ranma 1/2, Dragonball Z, Patlabor, Samurai Pizza Cats, Nadia: Secret of Blue Water... - ... that despite fandom beliefs, the "religious facts" included in Evangelion aren't meant to be taken literally, and were used just as elements for the plot, not for their religious importance? - ... that most of the moves and characters portrayed in Street Fighter 1 and 2 were inspired by Dragon Ball? - ... that the Z is a symbol of either "sequel" or "upgrade" (as in Dragon Ball Z or Powerpuff Girls Z, but there's more examples out there.)
And that's all I can remember right now. There may be more inside this mess I call a brain. mrgreen

I knew the 10th one! Thanks for posting this, I really could use some teachings in anime right now. It'll freak out my friends when I tell them.

Here's one from Sailor Moon that many Sailor Moon fans don't know:
The letters after three of the seasons of the anime have a meaning:
- Sailor Moon R: Romance or Rebirth (I've heard both versions from good sources.) - Sailor Moon S: Super (some say "Saturn" but "Super" makes more sense, since that's the arc where Moon goes Super Senshi.) - Sailor Moon SS: Super Senshi (like above, only the rest of the Senshi get to super.)
And Dragon Ball:
- Uranai Baba (Roshi's sister) translates literally as "Old Diviner woman" - 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 are all from the same man who invented Octavius (Android cool in Dragon Ball. And Cell is a play on words, as cell is written almost like zero in Japanese. However, I've also seen him refered to as C-21 - The same voice actor was used in the original for Son Goku, Gohan, Goten, Vegetto, Barduck, Gotenks and Goku Jr. (That last only in the final GT episode and the GT movie.) - Also, Krillin and Yajirobe were voiced by the same actor originally.
- What do Yukito/Yue (Card Captor Sakura,) Shinji Ikari (Evangelion,) Yugi Motou (Yugioh,) Kurama (Yuu Yuu Hakusho,) Kyu Renjo (Detective School Q,) Jun Mizugi (Captain Tsubasa,) Aoyama/Deep Blue/Blue Knight (Tokyo Mew Mew,) Petz (Sailor Moon R) and Haruka Tenoh (Sailor Moon S, SS and Stars) have in common?
Answer? They were all played by the same voice actress in their original version. burning_eyes

I'm a guy with an old fandom who's writing a story that will be longer than the series itself.
Days need to be 38 hours so I can write more.

Rurouni Kenshin:
- Despite what the plot tells us, the X-shaped scar in Kenshin's face has a much simpler explanation. When creating the character, the author went for someone who would look like the opposite from the swordsmen usually portrayed until then (all muscles, no kindness, rough features) but Kenshin ended up looking so girl-like, he had to add the scare to make him look somewhat masculine. - Many of the characters shown in the story are based off real historical figures of Japan.
Digimon:
- Taichi's family name was originally Yagami. Rumors say his name was slaughtered in the dub because of what the name was when spelled backwards (Imagay = I'm a gay) - Things like Vampire, Holy and Chaos in the Digimon's names were replaced by other, not always similar words in the dub... For no real reason. - The OP/ED/evolution songs, in the dub, were replaced by the one known commonly as "Digirap" out of sheer laziness (ya know, having to translate all those songs would've really taken them some time. Nevermind they all make sense in the context they were played.) - The Digimon movie (NA version) is actually a reduced version of the three first Japanese Digimon movies. - Mimi was made into much more of a whiny brat in the dubbed Adventures than she was in the original. (And yours truly hates when dubbers do that.)
Evangelion:
- Despite fandom's belief (again) the manga was started one year before the anime, and its plot does a whole lot more of sense (although still leaves you with that whole "WTF was it all about again?" feeling Evangelion always had.) - The "End Of Evangelion" movie is NC-17 rated in many countries, thanks to the nudity, blood and overally gross way some things are portrayed. - If the show was all about religion, and the Angels were actual angels (and not alien lifeforms seeking to terraform the Earth, duh,) then Shinji Ikari would be the Antichrist, and Asuka the False Prophet. (But then again, if you read the Bible, the antichrist wasn't an emo whore, and the prophet wasn't an insane psychopath. o.o ) - Shinji's mother (Yui) fought more battles than Shinji himself did against the Angels (her soul is inside the EVA-01, and is what activates the Berserker Mode whenever Shinji's in danger.)

- Dragon Ball had a dub by Harmony Gold which ******** up by changing names of characters in horrible and almost cruel ways. For example, Goku was renamed to Zero, and Karin-senin was renamed to Whiskers The Wonder Cat. Now we all know where 4Kids (rest in pieces,) got their "skills" from. - There's a Dragon Ball film in the making, apparently taking so many liberties with the plot and characters, they could rename it "Magical Kid Mario" and it would still work. rolleyes - Many anime shows, other than Pokemon (To Heart, Sakura Taisen,) are first born as videogames. - Match (Speed) from Match Go! (Speed Racer) never found out Racer X was his brother, because the series didn't have an ending. - Despite being the most powerful spell in Slayers, the Giga Slave only worked correctly once through the whole show. - Kenshin's battle techniques, called Battoujutsu as a whole, are still studied, though they're called Iaijutsu. They're still the same, as they involve striking from a sheathed sword stance. - Kenshin's name is actually Shinta, but his master changed it to Kenshin because he thought Shinta was a weak name. - The flying technique used by most of the important characters in Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z is translated as "sky dancing."

here's something interesting.... >.>
my brother is learning thise iaijutsu techniques, from sensei jason, who trained under sensei black, who was trained directly by our current soke, iwao, the grandson of our stlye's founder. yes, our renshinkan karate is a recently made style, but it takes alot from many older okanawa traditions. the style in full name is renshinkan shorinji-ryu karatedo (something-or-other small forest temple style way of the empty hand.)
