After being dropped off by C’ren, Westren had taken to wandering about the Weyr, simply trying to get a feel for the place. A few people gave him strange looks - probably because of the rather messy braids in the back of his hair - but no one asked him any questions. This didn't surprise him, considering just how many people seemed to be living in the Weyr. Upon further consideration, this made him slightly nervous; how would he find his sister, the one person he knew, in these masses?
Eventually Westren decided that it would be best if he found where he was supposed to sleep. Spying a young boy that seemed confident about where he was going, Westren stopped him.
“ Excuse me, but where do the male Candidates sleep? And where do the female Candidates stay?”
The boy gave him a strange look before muttering, “Another one, eh?”
With the help of vague hand gestures, the boy indicated where Westren should go. Nodding in thanks, Westren departed, strolling down the corridors. Pausing outside a door, he prepared to knock before realizing that he too would be living there, making knocking rather silly. Opening the door, a very brief glance at the room and that that occupied it told Westren that this was not the boys’ area, but the girls'.
“ Oh…” Realizing his mistake – he had confused the two sets of directions – Westren’s face flamed, rivaling his hair in color. “ Sorry, I, uh… yeah. Sorry.”

A blur of green and a trumpet of anger sounded as the door was opened. The little green flit sought to fiend off the intruder followed by laughter from its owner. Nelioa brushed back a strand of ebony hair behind her ear as she tried to call her green back to her. "Grein, come back you silly beast. Dont maul the boy." she held out her slender arm for the green to come and perch but it stubornly stayed hovering in the air closely surveying the intruder. The girl shruged, giving up the task easily as she leaned back in the chair in which she was sitting. "Thats what all the boys say. We all know you try to come in here on dares or to get a peek." her eyes surveyed him, watching his red face. "though with you I am liable to believe someone played a prank on you. You're new huh?"

Sonya held back her laughter, as the green went to harrass whoever was at the door. Orginally she couldn't tell exactly who or what was there as she was too distracted by the little creature in the first place. Though in any normal situation, she would of proberly been quite annoyed, in this case the atmosphere kept everything quite calm. Sonya found no reason to be rude or mean, the boy didn't seem like he was there for a laugh, especially considering his newly found colouring. She wasn't going to say anything, at least at first, since half of her wanted to meet his new person, expecially in such strange circumstances. One of the other candidates were handling it quite well already, which made her feel a little less guilty about it. Sonya changed position on the bed, bringing her legs together over the edge in a more ladylike way, just in case there came a chance where it was suitable to talk, or at the very least she could watch the little performance play out.

Veyes wandered back towards the dorm certain that he could lie on his bunk for a short time and think through yesterday's candidate training. "How to avoid getting mauled by a hatching" was a very good topic considering the tales he had been told around the Weyr about the damage that could be done. Although he doubted it would save some candidates but he was determined not be one of those unfortunate souls. It was all about being quick on your feet and keeping a cool head...plus getting the shards out of the way if the hatchling was barreling towards you. Maybe he had a slight advantage because he had dealt with several herdbulls on the farm, however, he had to remember that it was probably very easy to become enamored by the hope of impressing a hatching.
All these thoughts could have kept him occupied for hours had it not been for the sound of a small bugling trumpet of flit noise coming down the other hall that Veyes knew lead to the Girls' dorm. He stopped for a brief moment and glanced down the hallway not being fool enough to go near the door at the other end. Shards knew he didn't want to be on the losing end of a bunch of angry girls clamoring at him for peeking or spying.
His wild imagination offered up the mad vision of him running away from a mass of insane girls swinging hair brushes and throwing shoes or makeup pots in his direction. Veyes's shoulders shuddered as he pushed the scary thought to the back of his mind and was about to leave when he realized that someone stood in that doorway - another boy! Oh Shards! His eyes widened and he prayed that the boy realized quickly the imminent danger in front of him. Should he do something?
"Ummm... You! Hey you down there...Umm...that's the Girl's dorm!" he yelled down the hall because he wasn't going anywhere near that door. Life was a good thing and he planned on keeping it. Hopeful the other boy had heard him and agreed that living was better than mass trauma.

Nelioa's green alerted Nandeli to the presence of someone unwanted and she all but dashed out of her alcove. An intruder? Was it a boy? Her eyes lit up instantly when she caught sight of the boy who had apparently taken a wrong turn and ended up where he really shouldn't be. Looks like the Weyr pranksters were already at work. Or perhaps….perhaps he had done this intentionally. What a scoundrel! She was absolutely looking forward to talking to him now.
Curls bouncing behind her, Nan made her way towards the entranceway, smiling her most charming smile as she came up besides Nelioa. "What is this? A boy in the girls' alcoves? My my someone's looking to make an impression on the girls!" She grinned broadly as she placed both hands on her hips. This was the best potential gossip she'd gotten all week! Well, if you didn't count the whole kiss in the Bowl incident. But this was just as good! She just had to use it to her advantage. "You've awfully brave to come in here unannounced, but since the Candidatemaster is elsewhere I don't think you'll get into too much trouble. Can you tell us your name, brave one?"

When he was accosted by something small, green, and angry, Westren instinctively took a step back and began to raise his arms to protect himself. When a voice called out and the attack stopped, he lowered his half-raised arms and allowed himself to simply stand there for a moment, grappling with his shock and confusion. He had expected offended shrieks, but he had not been expecting to be attacked by a miniature dragon!
“ I am sorry. I’m rather new, yes; just off the dragon today. I asked a little boy for directions, but it seems I mixed the directions up.”
Hearing a male voice shout a warning, Westren leaned back and spied an older boy – almost everyone here seemed to be older then him, actually. Giving a sheepish grin and a small wave, he called back,” A bit late, but thanks for the warning.”
When another girl approached, Westren began to feel slightly nervous. He was used to dealing with girls, yes, but they were generally much younger then he and more interested in dolls and hair then gossip. So far as he could tell, older girls – except Quinnel – were quite different then their younger counterpoints. Dealing with unfamiliar, older girls in unfamiliar, new surroundings made Westren feel disconcerted. Running a hand through his hair, his fingers tangled in one of the sloppy braids, which he immediately began to toy with and unbraid. The familiar gesture calmed him before he responded.
“ My name is Westren. May I ask your names?”

Veyes waited and when he finally heard the answer he just sighed. Well, it was his funeral if the girls turned on the boy. It wouldn't be his problem. He could hear the shrill feminine voices behind the boy he watched; it was only a matter of time.
Fortunately, Veyes was not foolish enough to go down there and grab him. Maybe the boy wanted to "visit" the girls. He had heard of some boys occasionally try to sneak out and meet "dates". It wasn't something he ever considered doing himself because he really didn't want the trouble that could come from it. It might be nothing for him to be concerned with so he started to head out but then paused looked back one more time. "So you know where the Boy's dorm is right?" he called back just to make sure since he didn't recognize him. Depending on what the boy said would determine whether or not he stayed or left. In the mean time, he leaned back against the wall and awaited his reply.

Finally the drama set in, causing Sonya to fidget a bit more. Even people outside the room were talking now. What kind of set up was this? She got up from the bed not being able to sit there a minute longer. Instead of fidgetting she clenched the manal she had been reading earlier. If anyone were to inspect the book it would be found to be guide reflected on a natural diet from dragons and an explaination how a dragons diet is now cared for. Her slender fingers flicked through the pages as her smile joined her orginal posture, ladylike. Now she had moved closer to the other girls, weight mainly on one leg than the other, as she took in the situation.
The other females seemed to enjoy his presense there, it must be more out the ordinary than she had orginally assumed the case. There was no harm in continuing it though Sonya did have her suspitions on where this was coming to. Why hadn't the boy left as soon as he had given his name? It didn't seem like much of a mistake. Either way he was going to be here for a while now...girls always seemed to be more talkative than boys.
"Im Sonya" she imformed, placing herself straight into the convasation. "Who's your friend outside?" she added curious to the voice. Normally she would of waited for the others to introduce themselves, but curiousity had already gotten the better of her that day.

Roused from her nap by all the excitement, Elora groaned and opened her eyes to see what the problem was... and saw a guy. "Wha...!" she sputtered as she bolted upright, caught completely off guard by the sight. What was a boy doing in here? she asked herself, as she stared wide-eyed past the other girls at the ginger-haired lad, unaware that her own hair was sticking up in the back from where she'd been sleeping only moments before.

Maranan was resting when her heard all kinds of commotion. He got up and heard the other guys talking about how the girls were so noisy today. He decided to check it out. He threw on shorts and a shirt and slipped into his sandals. He walked out and down the hall. He saw Veyes and waved. "Hey what's going on in there?" He looked and saw the new guy surrounded by the girls. He sighed. "No need to tell me. I see it. " He waved off any comment and stood next to Veyes. "So should we try to save him?"

Veyes was rather surprised when another guy talked to him. Well, he shouldn't have been considering he was in a main hall but normally, he kept to himself and just quickly went from point a to point b not taking in any of the conversations. However, today had been different since he had tried to be helpful although it appears that the boy down the hall seemed to be content to stay within the clutches of the occupants in the girls' dorm.
He glanced at the guy and was glad not to have to make too many explainations. Yeah..it was pretty obviously what was going on. "Mmm...well I asked him if he needed help getting to the right dorm but he seems to be...happy where he is. But...I've not seen him before so I'm guessing he's probably new. I'm not sure that saving him is going to help him or us. I think I'd rather not be caught by the Candidate Master that close to the girls' dorm."
The boy that just arrived seemed to be more in the know so he guessed he had been at least in the Weyr for as long as himself if not more. He probably knew that getting on the bad side of the Candidate Master's grumpy nature brought more than a wave of chores....it brought a landslide of terrible chores that made a normal angry scolding seem mild. Veyes' preferred to choose his risks and mischief more carefully than that. "I wouldn't go down there if I were you."

"Hmm." He smiled at Veyes. "I'm Maranan, nice to meet ya." He held out his hand. "I know the rules, and the consequences." He chuckled and looked at the poor bewildered new kid. "I may just risk it." He winked at Veyes.

Grein grugingly returned to Nelioa's side, though she continued to watch the boy with wirrling eyes and a general air of distrust. Should ge step one toe out of line there was little doubt she would be at him again.
Nelioa stroked gentle fingers down the little green and gave cooing noises to try and appease her and clam her. It had little affect though if Nelioa stopped Grein would chirp at her to continue.
With her free hand she waved at the young man with a smile. "I'm Nelioa, and you have already met Grein here."

While older girls may have been different from younger girls, Nandeli was in a class all her own. Most girls liked gossip, but it was really a casual thing for them. If someone started talking about someone else then things just spiralled down from there. For the Nose, her life was gossip, and Westren could be sure that there would stories about the brave boy who had dared enter the girl's quarters. Why he did it would probably be horribly skewed from the truth, but that was all part of the fun. Just getting lost was boring!
She waited until the other girls had introduced themselves before she took the spotlight. "Welcome, Westren, to the forbidden girl's quarters! Few men dare brave such an area alone. I'm Nandeli, but you can just call me Nan if you want to. Doesn't matter much to me. Now that you're here, why don't you sit down and tell us about your purpose for coming here. Surely you were looking for a special someone?" Nan waggled her eyebrows at Westren.
"And you two up there!" She pointed an accusing finger in Veyes and Maranan's direction. "Look, if you're not going to actually come in here and join your friend then go find someone else to bother! We don't need a whole collection of boys gawking down here at us. Your friend here has made his bed furs, now he has to sleep in it. Besides, I got it all under control." Now would be a good time to run away screaming.

As more girls took an interest in the commotion, Westren couldn’t help but wonder what he had gotten himself into. Oh, he had heard other boys discuss the “evil” of girls, and had heard older males bemoaning the fact that women were impossible to understand, but thus far Westren had only heard such things, not experienced them. Curiosity was to be expected, and he supposed that teasing was appropriate, given the situation; nothing dangerous yet.
“ Ah, I don’t actually know him. Um…” Taking a step back, Westren turned slightly to search out the boy that had tried to warn him, only to find that said boy was no longer alone. Between the distance and his own divided attention he could only catch snippets of their conversation, but it was enough to worry him.
“ Am I going to get in trouble for being here?”
When he had first realized his situation, Westren had hoped to make it better by learning some names and faces, as well as getting more accurate directions. However, as Nandeli began to talk he realized he was in for more then he had bargained for. Looking for a rescue himself, he decided on innocent honesty.
“ Yes, I’m looking for someone important to me.”
There, situation diffused. Nothing scandalous about looking for a family member, right?
{{Westren needs to learn to choose his words more carefully...}}
