So you don't like religion?

Then perhaps you won't agree, but

This is an awesome thing:
http://lds.org/move/index.html?type=conference04-2009&event=april179&lang=english

Apostles of Jesus Christ will be speaking several times today and tomorrow, starting 30 minutes ago.
In 2 hours sessions, today(Saturday) from 10am-12pm and 2pm-4pm, Sunday from 10am-12pm and 2pm-4pm, all Mountain Time(which is where I live, so adjust your time as you like).

The prophet will speak in there some time. If you are curious who those old men who lead the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints are, here's your chance to see them speak. The 12 Apostles and 3 members of the First Presidency will each get a chance to speak over the next two days, accompanied by various other leaders(though to be honest, the other leaders usually sound more stiff as speakers--probably a matter of experience).

Come and listen with your heart and mind, see what we're all about!

Don't bother flaming me, I won't respond to you.

By Thursday (Apr. 9th) online text transcripts will be available.

When that time comes I will totally put up the link to Elder Quentin L. Cook's talk. It was amazing. He defined the theological differences between The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and the near universal beliefs of the rest of the Christian World.

Link will be here: [http://lds.org/conference/talk/display/0,5232,23-1-1032-12,00.html]

If you don't want to be bothered to watch all this or if you missed anything. Then please consider reading this at the very least.

besides people going door to door, they're in my internets too (and not just ads on the sides of my internets....)

I mean, your sig was bothering me enough, and now you feel that you can be all jehovah-y about it and start witnessing to a guild you're in because you're all excited about something that may or may not be true

.... Christianity is derived from Judaism anyway
maybe you should try that

&btw every mini-group claims that they're "different"
they just want to collect followers...
like how scene kids think they're different even though they all dress the same
emos too

k this went nowhere
... except that you has angry beru on yer hands
it will probably do nothing tho

I'm sorry, but the last thing I want to log onto the SG and find is Religious recruitment.

...What Belle and Shoy said basically define what I'm thinking. I deal with missionaries almost daily and I don't wanna come on Gaia and hear another one. I mean you no offense, but this is not what I wanted to join this guild for.

B-b-but, then you'll never know why we're so annoying...

...I see what you all mean, one of the reasons I come here is to take a break from all the goes on in my life.

Anyway, even though I wanted to assist this thread my first impression of this thread was that it might have better belonged in the "I AM ME!" subforum. And I don't even go there...

OK

1. You ARE allowed to speak your mind, and I whole-heatedly respect that. So this thread is not something horrible in my book.

2. I think Berurururu and Shoy may have been a little hasty in their responses, because it's not like you guys are recruiting.

3. I'm fine with people speaking their minds, as long as they don't try to tell ME what I should be thinking, or try to tell other people that their ways of thinking are wrong.

4. You did not expect ME to be this mature about the situation. cool

Holy s**t, Buzz can be mature? [/shot]

Iunno. It's just this sorta falls into the 3 things you should never hold a conversation about. (Sex, Politics, and Religion.) The first is outlawed by PG-13, Second I am really good about ignoring, but the third is... srs in my book I guess? Iunno...

brb, closing heart and mind to the outside world. :>

I'm just going to come out and say that I think you should find more constructive things to do with your time rather than try and convert people via internet.

Everything Buzz said is what I'm thinking right now. I don't care what you do, who you worship, yada-yada. I think this should be in the I Am Me Subforum, because not everyone is going to agree or even like this.

Nothing personal, but religion is the last thing I expected to see in this guild. And you will get some harsh reviews. Shoy and Belle just showed you two sides.

This should go in the I Am Me. It's not really a discussion topic but more "Hey look at this thing I'm doing topic" ... which goes in the Me.

So I'm gonna move it soon.
PostPosted: Sun Apr 05, 2009 8:28 pm

Well, you asked for it by opening your religion for discussion.

I could have said a great deal of mean, true things about the Church of Latter Day Saints that would have you calling for my bannination. But I won't.

I'll just thank you for insulting my identity as a homosexual in a previous discussion on gay marriage. Thanks a whole lot. You are very kind and welcoming to those different from you, like those who leave your church and find themselves severed from their families and friends and everyone you call sinners. You're sure to attract a lot of flies with that vinegar!

Mind you, this is directed towards all religions, but I've seen some more aggressive examples of rejection of non-members from the LDS.

Don't take this as an attack, but an opportunity for discussion.

(I respect your opinion, but I wanna say one thing)

You use the internet to be constructive? I personally use the internet to goof off. Who's to say what someone does with their internet time?

I don't really think religious internet recruiting really constitutes "goofing off." Especially not in a secular guild like ours which is very LGBT friendly.
I just think it's pretty pointless. I wouldn't go into the anti-choice ("pro-life") guild and make a thread trying to convert them to atheism (Not to say all anti-choice people are religious, but many of them are).
Everyone already knew Alpha was a Mormon - it's in his signature.
What this thread appears to me is Alpha trying to stir up some trouble.
But that's just my opinion and I could be wrong. I don't know Alpha, and I can't claim to know his intentions. He really could be trying to spark our interest in his religion or alert anyone that actually cared about it. The fact is that this thread would really be better suited (NOT saying he doesn't have the right to make a thread in this guild about it.) in some other guild or even in one of the forums.

But, I really don't want to turn this into a religious debate. So because of that I'll just steer clear of this thread from now on. <3
I always say that there's no reason to spend time in a thread you don't like, so it's about time I take my own advice on that.

I don't know what Alpha's original intent was, bu~ut I'm pretty sure he was trying to educate about/advertise Mormonism here. Which is why when I can I will add that link to the one talk I mentioned in my first post. I, too, don't want to see this become a religious debate.

However I am of the opinion that Ezzy's angle of discussion is open to much political conversation that I would love to talk about. heart Seperation of Church and State is supposed to go both ways.

There is a culture that our church tries to promote where ever it gets established. But quite often it fails to be completely implemented. So we get different culture areas even within our highly regulated religion. You can't always get what you seek in our church, but most of us are able to live in this different lifestyle very successfully and happily.
