Kansas Governor Signs Bill Ensuring Those Seeking Abortions Can See Ultrasound First

TOPEKA, Kan. — Gov. Kathleen Sebelius signs a bill ensuring that women and girls seeking abortions can see ultrasound images before the procedure.

The legislation, signed Friday and taking effect July 1, also ensures that abortion patients can listen to the fetal heartbeat.

Sebelius signed the measure as she awaits U.S. Senate confirmation as federal Health and Human Services secretary. Anti-abortion groups in Washington have criticized her nomination because of her abortion rights stance.

The Kansas governor offered no explanation of why she signed the bill, though she's never targeted such provisions when she's vetoed past abortion measures.

The bill amends a state law requiring doctors to obtain a patient's informed consent before performing an abortion.

Sebelius actually did something good for the unborn? First time for everything, I guess.
I could've given her credit if I didn't know she accepted millions of dollars from Dr. George Tiller the Baby Killer.

I think they should see an an ultrasound first, it may actually help people to see and understand what is going on inside them and that it's not just some tissue.

Though it may not change everybody's mind when wanting an abortion, but they can at least learn something and treat the unborn with some respect (not to mention, find out how far along they are exactly).

Rosary-I heard some pretty aweful stories about that guy and how he even treats his own patients poorly. Goes to show you they aren't out to help women like so many people like to claim.

You know that is good if that is what she really did, but I received a call today doing a survey and they said, Gov. Sebelius signed an agreement to some Obama thing. She is giving Kansas taxpayers money to help people get abortions. It doesn't make sense that she would be against abortion and give our tax money to help abortionists.I am not very political and never professed to be so, but I know I am calling my Senetor to see if he will vote against this.

You're confusing the issue. She isn't against abortion. She's Pro-Choice. But, she signed into law a bill that allows a girl who is seeking an abortion to see an ultrasound, if they want to.

She also didn't have anything to do with making the law, she just signed it.

That doesn't sound pro-choice or pro-life.

Things aren't black and white, dear. Just because you are Pro-Choice doesn't mean you can't support some policies that Pro-Life people support. I would personally hope that a lot of Pro-Choicers support the laws that we support, that keep minors from getting abortions without their parents knowing.

I would be hoping in vain, but still...

And I would think that you of all people would understand that there are shades of grey. You said that you were a liberal in another thread. If so, why aren't you Pro-Choice? That's not very liberal of you.

Especially since this could easily be a case of a governor who doesn't use her veto power lightly. It could be that she disagrees with this law, but, since the state congress passed the bill and this wasn't a very big issue for her, she signed it.

I wasn't aware that she actually signed this bill, but I do know she has a high pro abortion voting. She's more and likely to veto any pro life bill. Now I didn't think Tiller sent her money, I think its the other way around. One of our senators in nebraska wrote me saying she owes about 7 grand in back taxes and isn't getting any repusscion from it, plus she gave "tiller' even though he didn't specify it but said something on the lines of abortion provider in kansas 20 G. Nice huh. Well now that shes head of HHS now look out. I wrote my congress on this cause this isn't right. Just wait and see who is gonna be on the superme court next. *sigh*
