My main purpose for each shop I've worked in was an ideas machine. So. Here's some. Just throwing these up for consideration and discussion.
First: have a number of potential themes (such as EIs, Pokemon, etc) and each shop can- if they wish- submit a pet into any the themes. Then there's a raffle, FS, flaffle, whatever, with EVERY pet from that theme.
So, there might be a Pokemon raffle in week one, an EI flaffle week three, and so on. The idea is that it allows more artistic freedom, but the artists will be paid (after all, edits can be a lot of work.)
You could also do a flipside and do a free version. Themes are fun, yo!
Secondly- mass RP contests. Basically, any RP contest pets are put up at the same time, and the results perhaps staggered over a week or so (depending on how many are done.) This allows people to avoid a person winning more than one (aka, by organising them.) Other events could potentially also be put into this category (such as character creation contests.)
Third- Item design contests. Basically, people can design items to go onto pets; and at the end of it, the winners get a free version of their item for a pet from any of the shops. At the end of the event, any of the shops can take and make the winning designs as long as it's attributed to the event. (I like items!)
Okay, I think I'm done for now. There will be a LOT of ideas- my brain goes into overdrive at times.
Discuss, consider. Feel free to adapt and change the ideas.

I support the "items" idea.. Us at trash bandits have been kicking an idea around adding items to enhance the shop. We have been talking about getting extra lines, etc.. and we all agreed that by adding items.. People can dress their pet up a little, and their pets gain some originality from others.
Well... as for all these ideas about paid events... The shops themselves have to run them. The overall main event is catering to free events. However, if several shops want to stage a paid flatsale. We can arrange that as well. We just need shop owners who are insistent or feeling strongly about this to post htere...
Based on what i'm seeing in the registration forms, a lot of shops are supporting free events or requesting specifically the free events in the nature of the event and what it represents.
I also support these massive rp contests! One reason rp contests are a great idea... is that.. By entering that contest.. they would be ok with rp'ing it.. and they won't be unhappy with anything they get! If you are entering the rp contest.. it's like entering small mini raffles.. you have to consent that you are accepting to get whatever you win..
but i think for all raffle style functions we have whatsoever. there needs to be a 24 hour "trade" window if people aren't 100% satisfied. You can only trade once, and you can only trade with another prize winner... That rule in place to prevent someone who didn't win using their friend's placeholder as a way around not winning. That's bad sportsmanship, and we aren't having any of it!
As for the themes, I've also been talking about themes... However, in regards to pokemon, we have several shops who's base theme is pokemon already... Also many shops are currently running poke events or due to in the near future. We dont' wanna take the wind out of anyone's sails.. so we shouldn't mandate that one. But.. with the overall theme of the white ribbon.. ANY SHOP could enter pokemon styled pets if they wanted.. so long as it has the ribbon... and that's fine...
I was suggesting several themes... for weeks or weekends.. Maybe for paid auctions if people are THAT heavily interested in them.. can run EI or MC themed auctions in teh guild.. However, there again, I'd liek to note most major shops have already either had EI events... or had numerous EI customed/commissoned pets already. I know this from lurking around and seeing them.

I am liking these ideas. =D I have a question about the mass RP contests, though... would each shop have a separate prompt/contest, just run at the same time as everyone else, or would each shop have the same prompt/contest? 'cause the second there might run into problems, since one prompt may not be suitable for one shop... XD I know that my shop specifically has really intricate details regarding RP, and so any prompts would have to be pretty specific.

For the themes- I was more using those as examples. And, obviously, there's the potential for different themes- and for a shop to not take part in any. The idea wasn't intended to be mandatory.
It's just an idea. :] I think the issue I'm having is that, with just four pets, it's difficult for one shop to have a theme (especially ones with more than one species.) So it really would have to be agreed by several participating shops, putting the themed pets up at the same time and in the same mini-event. It was a way to work themes in, that's all.
I did mean that for the mass RP contests, people would still apply for a particular pet- I mean, especially if (like my shop) there's going to be an RP req tag on them. People don't want to have to RP a pet they don't really like that much, after all!
As for raffles- if it was one big raffle (which I do like the idea of) I would assume each person would take a turn in picking their pet (or passing entirely if what they wanted was no longer there), thus ensuring people only get what they want. The trade window might not be a bad idea, but I think only one way of doing it would be necessary.
For the items idea- it might not be a bad idea to have a variety of editors who're willing to do edits for shops who don't have an editor in their staff.

Some theme ideas might be to go with something broad that allows for a lot of variety, even if a shop has used that theme before. Like types of birds, fish, flowers, or butterflies.

Hey guys... I was looking through shop registrations. One of htem wanted to sell for "profit" but with the proceeds going to the Seasons of Love b/c charity...
I was thinking.. maybe if anyone wanted to "charge" for hteir pets... maybe they would consider this as a positive alternative to giving htem away.. and it's going to a good cause.. that's helping people questing for pets along the way... :3

I'd had a silly little idea of making a B/C shop of humanized pokemon. Unique lineart, as usual for me. All picky^^ Not Absol, not Mew or legendary, I can make any of them before I make the shop^^
