Big news everyone: Guilds can now have sub-forums. They cost money out of the guild fund (2500g per sub-forum), though, so I wanted to get people's opinions on what subforums they would like to see rather than go subforum crazy.

I think priority #1 would be an official "learning japanese" forum. Hopefully we can get those lessons going soon, but in the mean time we can direct all questions to that sub-forum.

some other possiblities:
a Japanese pop culture sub-forum
a nihongo dake (japanese only) sub-forum
newbie forum

Please tell me your preferences

I'm definitely for a more loose "newbish" forum where people can make threads without worry. I know a lot of times I had a passing whim to post but ended up not doing it because I wasn't sure where it should go.

Okay, I went ahead and created a new "Learning Japanese" subforum, moved a few threads there, and we're ready to roll. I'm not going to be too strict about thread placement, that is if you still created "learning japanese" themed threads in the main forum, I'm not gonna move them to the "Learning Japanese" subforum. The other Guild rules apply, so go have fun.

I think we should have a manga/anime sub-forum. No doubt the others are awesome but you know...I just think I'd rather have a manga/anime sub-forum. sweatdrop

I perosnally thing having anime/manga covered in a "japanese pop culture" forum will be enough, but there is an out-cry for anime/manga only, I suppose it could happen. . .

Make a general depression thread nad make me the moderator. I'd suggest something like:

Introduction
Gaming
General Interest
Japanese Culture
Anime/Manga.

i would say that you could make a general one and have little ones at the top

You should have a "travel sub form." Things that would be in there would be thing like what kind of outlits they have and "do and don'ts".

A "learning Japanese" sub-forum woud be really good, especially for those of us that are taking Japanese already. It would give people interested in taking classes an idea of what it is they're going to learn, and it would give Japanese students a chance to practice what they are learning and correct each others mistakes. If nessessary, someone can even post a thread that tells others how to set up their computers to recognize and reproduce the Japanese writing systems. biggrin

Okay, so I think the next subforum should be a japanese only forum, but I'm trying to decide what the format will be. Should it be kana only? Should people double post in kana and romaji? or should it vary thread by thread?

Well, we have a learning forum, so I would assume with the new forum, the person entering will have at least a working knowledge of the language. If anything, it should be solely in Kana, with English translations provided, if it become necessary.

I think as long as it's in Japanese anything goes should be fine, with Kana/Kanji encouraged.

wouldn't a "personal experience in japan" or "what i expect from japan" sub forum be a good idea?

I think it could be either way. Like having one Thread be for regular kana/kanji users, another for just hiragana/katakana, and another for romanji.
