Well, since it is a Kpop guild forum, i thought this would be needed?
I'll offer some help... though my Korean might not be thattt strong.
If you know Korean, you can help out as well! 3nodding

Some basic stuff about Hangul...

Hangul is actually written in the form of phonetics, using an analogy...
An english syllable can be sort of summed up to be a Hangul character.
Characters comprise of several "alphabets", just like how a syllable is comprised of letters.

modified from learnkorean.net vvv

Vowels : -

a
ya

eo [pronounced something like "uhh"]
yeo

o
yo

u [pronounced like "ooo"]
yu

eu
i

Consonants : -

g / k
g' k'

n

d / t
d' / t'

r / l

m

b / p
b' / p'

s
- [or when ending with this component, uses the "ng" sound]
j /ch
j' /ch'

h

Note that " ' " means
the letter is aspirated, i.e a sharp sound.

Double Vowels:

ㅐ ae
ㅒ yae
ㅙ wae

ㅔ e [sounds like 'ere' in "here"]
ㅖ yere

ㅘ wa

ㅝ wo
ㅞ weo

ㅟ weou
ㅢ wei

If you're learning Korean for the first time, you might be exasperated. How do I learn all these so quickly!! Well, my friend who didn't learn Korean natively either taught me some tricks.

First, you look for patterns in the basic vowels.

Pattern #1
ㅏ is "a". But when you add a second stroke to the vowel... it becomes...ㅑ, which is "ya". The difference is the "y" added in front of the sound.
eg. ㅏand ㅑ

Pattern #2
ㅏㅜㅓㅗ
my friend said it reminded her of tetris.
remember that "a" would face to the right, and "eo" would face to the left.
"u" does not want to look like the english character "u", so it points downwards. "o" points upwards as a result.

Pattern #3
ㅡ ㅣ
group "eu" and "i" together. they sound similar. since ㅣ looks like "i", just let it be "i". As a result, the other (eu) would be ㅡ!

Pattern #4
For most of the double vowels, when there is an added ㅗ infront of the other vowel, it probably means to add a "w" sound in front.
eg. ㅏ and ㅘ

Consonants....
You can freely make up your own.
ㅅ looks like a human trying to urinate XD therefore the "sss" sound.
ㄷ looks like a "d" missing its |.
ㅁ looks like a tape over a person's mouth. therefore "mm"
ㄹ looks like a river's meander. roll and roll. "r".
ㅂ looks like your mouth when you pronounce "b".

it's up to you how you want to learn it actually. Just know you need to know how to read before you learn basics proper 3nodding

I've always wanted to learn Korean. Thank you^^. Maybe we should start off a little slower. We should just learn how to speak it then learn how to write it later.

Wow! Thank you so much for posting this! I've been wanting to learn Korean for a while, but there are no classes offered in my area! Could someone post a pronunciation chart? As in, how to say each sound properly. I'm an English language speaker, with some training in Japanese, but my Korean sounds terrible (I think... sweatdrop )
