A tall, ornate building stands proudly in the midst of the dirty streets of the city of Durem. Shining prominently on its' doors, it bears the name "Hackers.Net". Gazing upwards at its four stories, you notice many windows almost all of which emit some strange glows. Questions buzzing in your head about this strange glitch in your computer, you hesitantly open the door...
You had heard this place knew all about the strange creatures invading the computers of Gaia and so with the little you knew about it, you entered the large glass doors. A tile floor that shone so much you automatically tread as if it were wet greeted your eyes, as you caught the reflection of yourself and several others in the building. Robots and other devices stood mostly stationary, almost like sentinels, spaced sporadically about the room. It gave the shop a feeling of clutter, though everything was kept immaculately clean. Glancing back up as you walk, you take note of a tall counter top, where a man with short hair and a penny-whistle around his neck sits working away at a computer.
Not quite wanting to disturb the man, you approach him quietly, fully aware that he doesn't exactly look happy about being at work. Upon reaching the counter, you place both hands lightly on it before clearing your throat in a slightly expectant tone that says you'd rather not disturb him, but you have some questions to ask. Without missing a beat, the man glances up from his work and a dash of pink makes it's way onto his face. A smile tugs at his lips as he glances around as if to see if anyone else could help you before he shrugs to himself and turns his attention back to you, "May I help you?"
Curious about his blush, but not wanting to pester him, you instead bring up about hearing a rumor about something called "Hackers". Since the store is named Hackers, you figured it was a good place to start. The smile the man had held deepens just a little, as if he's amused, before he starts asking you some questions about your computer.
"Have you recently noticed any files go missing, or things otherwise get mixed around?"
When you give your response, he leans back in his chair as if in thought before grabbing a spare jumpdrive and handing it to you, "You'll need that, it'll hold your hacker so that you don't lose any information on your hard drive." He pauses, before continuing, "We don't know much about them, but they talk and interact with us, via things like cell phones, smartphones, computers, PDAs...anything that contains data and has a screen. They eat data, so be careful, because they just might nab some files you don't want them to." Pocketing the jump drive he's given you, you nod your agreement before turning to leave, thanking him for his help, and curious about this new thing you have.
Perhaps more details will be revealed later?
We are a semi-literate roleplay required shop. That doesn't just mean we expect grammar and spelling, but also that we expect at least a paragraph per post. (That's 3-5 sentences.)
Don't worry, though, if you don't roleplay, your pet will not grow, but we won't take them away for inactivity.

ஐ Please read everything on the front page and in the guild stickies/announcements. As this is primarily an RP required shop, it makes sense to read things.
ஐ Do not steal the art, concept, graphics, etc. The creators worked very hard on it and thieves will be reported!
ஐ Follow the ToS. Violators will be reported.
ஐ Please be active. This shop thrives on activity and free stuff tends to be given out during our most active moments.
ஐ OOC in OOC areas, RP in RP areas, please.
ஐ Unless they explicitly invite you to do so, do not PM or IM the staff at .NET Hackers. And please, no harassment either. <33
ஐ We know everyone has a bad day and needs to rant, but please, no starting drama in the thread. We don't mind if you want to talk about your horrid day, but don't take it out on anyone else. And keep IC character problems to just that - in character. If your character hates someone else's, don't let that spill into the main thread, please.
++++ⅱ. Ɍoleplay Ɍules
ஐ No godmodding. No one is all powerful, all seeing, and all knowing.
ஐ No powerplaying. The only instance this is permissible is if both parties agree every time it happens. If your character is in the midst of an ORP or a meta and you go on hiatus without moving your character, the RP staff do reserve the right to do a minor powerplay and scoot you off to one side, from where you can re-enter at any time.
ஐ We are a semi-literate to literate roleplay, so please use appropriate grammar and spelling.
ஐ Make use of RP tags in your headlines. For example, "ORP", "PRP" and etc.
ஐ Follow a post order, please!
ஐ Tag the person/people you're RPing with. Use the following code to do so: Tag in ++++ⅲ. Ɍules of 𝔖ales
ஐ For an RP required Hacker, all sales will be based on a prompt response sale. If its a non RP required Hacker, it will be dice based to get it.
ஐ If you want to pet trade with someone, feel free to ask them if they're willing. However the final okay must go through Loki.
ஐ You can order a custom whenever slots are open. If you want to bribe, make sure its at least double what slot you want would cost or is an item Loki really, really wants before you make an offer. The bigger the bribe, the more priority your order gets - and the more time Loki will take on it.
ஐWe will not take your Hacker away from you because you're inactive, but we will also not grow your Hacker unless you are.
Rules can be added to or changed whenever the staff at .NET Hackers feel necessary. We will notify you about changes, but you are responsible for having read and knowing the rules. If you break one, we expect you to have read them, so saying, "I didn't know" won't work. ♡

++++.NET Hackers: The Story
It had started out as an experiment. Something to test the boundaries of science and human creativity. The idea? To create AI units capable of independent thought and fully capable of learning human emotion. These pieces of data were given the code names ADAM and EVE, a gesture of symbolism and sentimentality. The project itself was called EDEN. A name quite undeserved and overly lofty, but one that kept in with the paradise ideals of the creators.
++++EDEN: A Project Begins
Two scientists headed Project Eden, Dr. Emilia Watts and Dr. John Shepherd. She, a prominent psychologist, and he a computer coding whiz she had picked up from a local college. After convincing him that teaching was a waste of his talent, she seduced him with the lofty ideals of her pet project Eden. Pleased to have his talent recognized and intrigued by the idea of "perfect companions", Shepherd agreed and Project Eden was fully born.
++++Adam and Eve: Creation
After several years of top secret work as John designed and created technolgoy, Adam and Eve were finally born. At first, the two lagged and teaching them the basics of meeting and greeting people was difficult. But after much work, communication was finally established. The two were like infants and the doctors nigh to parents to them. Watts spent much of her time teaching the two about humanity and emotions, while John meticulously hammered away at the numbers, working hard to ensure they were maintained.
Both were impressed as the AI quickly learned the lessons thrown at them. Though actual emotions seemed to elude them, their ability to mimic them grew rapidly. Dr. Emilia Watts was pleased with the AI, and, in pursuit of a Nobel Prize, opted to begin to write a proper paper on Eden. John opposed her, saying they weren't finished yet, but Watts persisted and began her research.
Obediently, John helped her in any way he could, always working to look for glitches or something he could use to stall his partner. In a last ditch effort, he patiently explained to the AI that they were going to be exploited. While they grasped the theory, they were indifferent to what was to happen to them. Frustrated and feeling defeated, John opted to exit the project. He didn't want to take advantage of those he felt were his children, and began to prepare a counter strike to Dr. Watts' paper.
What the man didn't know, was that his tirade and subsequent exit and piqued the interest of Eve. An AI more mischievous than her partner, and the one more interested in learning human emotion. She had seen the loving stares John had given his creations, and wanted to understand what they were about. With this in mind, she stole into Watts' computer and read the report.
++++Adam and Eve: The Disappearance
When she had finished, she felt waves of something that she thought could only be described as the human emotion of "disappointment" and even "anger". The report told of them as if they were something that was simply created and did exactly what it was told, when it was told. After the hours upon hours of lessons in emotions from the psychologist, this confused Eve. How could the woman claim they did not have emotions, when she had designed them to have them - and had spent so much time in ensuring that they would?
Though she didn't fully understand why Dr. Watts would abandon them, Eve knew that she had - and that, in a way, she felt as though John had abandoned them as well. He had left when they needed him to fight for them the most, leaving them to fend for themselves in a world they were still new to. In a huff, Eve began to destroy the report, taking a short break only long enough to tell Adam about it, inviting him to read parts of it before she destroyed them as well.
Although he was more apathetic about the report and how it painted the AI, he readily joined Eve in its destruction before convincing her that they should probably take their leave. And soon. The doctor had always unnerved him, and the thought of her finding them destroying her work made him uneasy. Eve was mostly unwilling to leave, but the report was in shambles, and Adam eventually convinced her they should exit the system. As they left, he sent a note to John telling him they were disappearing before erasing their tracks from Watts' computers and making it look as though a malfunction had occurred to destroy them both.
++++New AI: Creation of the Hackers
The turmoil of foreign feelings left Eve bugged, in more ways than one. She no longer felt like herself and was having difficulty coming to terms with actually feeling things. On occasion, random glitches would happen around her when she got truly agitated, and Adam noticed that data was being twisted and converted around her, creating new data signatures similar to their own. Although he wasn't really sure what this meant, he never stopped to investigate them. Adam was more concerned with the effect these random glitches were having on Eve, as she began to grow slow, and more listless with each passing surge.
Eventually, one day, Eve stopped moving all together. No matter how hard he tried, Adam could not get the glitches to stop happening, and the bigger they grew, the less Eve moved. Some of the glitches appeared to be developing into AI like himself, which only caused his confusion to grow even more. Concerned over the female AI, and unsure about these new developments, he tucked Eve away and went off in search of John, sure that the human could help him understand what was happening more readily than what he could on his own.
With Eve laying stranded and listless, the glitches began to slow down. The new AI taking forms of their own, and eventually creating new hackers from themselves. These new creatures prospered by hacking into computer systems to find homes, and then proceeding to hack into systems from their base. With this, they became known as "Hackers", and a store front was eventually started to serve as a place to gather data about these strange Cyber phenomenons.

Currently, regular Hackers cost 5,000 gold. For custom price information, please refer to the "custom prices" part of the shop thread.
How do I "hot link"?
You copy your pet's URL into the image code Gaia provides with BBcode. ^^
Can I have a free one?
I'm sorry, but no you may not.
Pet trades?
Feel free to PM the mule with your offer. People who are on Loki's pet trade wish list are much more likely to get what they want, though.
How many stages are there?
Presently there are four. Egg, child, adult, and elder. Eventually we will have an android stage but that will be purchasable only through extensive RP and an art fee.
When is your next sale?
Please check the availability post for this information.
Can I have twins?
Only with a bribe custom or an auction.
What about cosplays?
Only with a very expensive custom, a bribe, or an auction I'm afraid. I might do occasional raffles or a rare freebie for cosplays, though.
What does "full custom" mean?
That means you get your pick of anything you want. As many tattoos, colors, etc., as you want. Just no extensive lineart edits.
Do you accept items as payment?
Yup. But EIs, MCs, and sealed are accepted at 90% tektek value. For store items/commons they are accepted at full price but only if they are on Loki's wish list.
I plan on hiatusing for a while, so I won't be here to RP and grow my pet. Does that mean they'll become inactive?
If you're going to hiatus, please post in the Hiatus Thread and let us know. Otherwise, if you're gone for 6 months, yes, your Hacker will be transferred to a non-RP status.

If not, then please feel free to report any ToS breaking to the moderators. This, however, does not mean you should report my employees simply because you think they were rude or you're mad at us for something. Only report a post when the ToS has actually been broken.
