Welcome!

This is Loki's new, much easier to understand FAQ and Guide to the shop .NET Hackers. I hope you find everything you need here, but if not, feel free to PM the mule, Lab-net Hackers with your questions and Loki will both respond to the PM and add the question/response to this guide for everyone to be able to learn from it.

General FAQ

How much does a Hacker cost?
Currently, regular Hackers cost 4,000 gold. For custom price information, please refer to the "custom prices" part of the shop thread.

How do I "hot link"?
You copy your pet's URL into the image code Gaia provides with BBcode. ^^

Can I have a free one?
I'm sorry, but no you may not.

Pet trades?
Feel free to PM the mule with your offer. People who are on Loki's pet trade wish list are much more likely to get what they want, though.

How many stages are there?
Presently there are four. Egg, child, adult, and elder. Eventually we will have an android stage but that will be purchasable only through extensive RP and an art fee.

When is your next sale?
Please check the availability post for this information.

Can I have twins?
Only with a bribe custom or an auction.

What about cosplays?
Only with a very expensive custom, a bribe, or an auction I'm afraid. I might do occasional raffles or a rare freebie for cosplays, though.

What does "full custom" mean?
That means you get your pick of anything you want. As many tattoos, colors, etc., as you want. Just no extensive lineart edits.

Do you accept items as payment?
Yup. But EIs, MCs, and sealed are accepted at 90% tektek value. For store items/commons they are accepted at full price but only if they are on Loki's wish list.

I plan on hiatusing for a while, so I won't be here to RP and grow my pet. Does that mean they'll become inactive?
If you're going to hiatus, please post in the Hiatus Thread and let us know. Otherwise, if you're gone for 6 months, yes, your Hacker will be transferred to a non-RP status.

LIKE OMFG LIKE THIS LIKE STAFF MEMBER WAS LIKE A B---- TO ME OMFG I HATE LIKE YOUR SHOP JUST YOU NEED TO GO TO HELL!!!!!1111!!!!
I'm sorry if you feel someone was rude. If you would like to point me in the directions of the post(s) where this problem occurred, I would be happy to take care of it. If not, then please feel free to report any ToS breaking to the moderators. This, however, does not mean you should report my employees simply because you think they were rude or you're mad at us for something. Only report a post when the ToS has actually been broken.

C/-N 1 tAlK lik3 t|-|15?
I'd rather not, I can hardly read it.

Roleplay Information

Are they roleplay required?
If their cert has an "RP" tag on it, then yes, they are. If you are inactive without warning for six months, your Hacker will be transferred to a "non-RP" status and you will grow after a set amount of time. Should you wish to return you Hacker to "RP" status, you must be active for one month before it will be switched back. All RPs during that one month probation period will not count towards growth.

How do we roleplay?
This is a semi literate shop, so that means you must post at least a paragraph, with two or more being preferred. (We don't mind reading tons here, so feel free to let your creativity take over!) Also, we follow a post order and do not allow god modding. A powerplay may be permissible if both parties agree to it or a roleplay manager is moving a MIA character out of play so that the roleplay can go on.

What is a tag, a PRP, ORP, IRP, and ERP?
A tag post in the thread means you've responded to a roleplay and you're letting the person know where. For example, if I tag Rown in RP A of ours and we're in two together, I'd say, "Tag for Rown in RP A!"

A "PRP" is a private roleplay. That means you must be invited by the original creator of the thread in order to post.

"ORP" means open roleplay. Which means anyone can post, but we do still strive to follow a post order in these RPs.

"IRP" and "ERP" are basically the same, but with different names. An "IRP" is an introductory roleplay and an "ERP" is an entrance roleplay. Basically, this is how you introduce your character (and Hacker!) to .NET Hackers' environment.

How do I create a roleplay?
Simple! Depending on what type you want, you can invite someone to RP with you (private RP), or create a thread with a general introduction to it and make a post in the shop about there being an open roleplay for anyone to join. ERPs can be created only by shop staff and IRPs can be done with anyone, but the participants must have staff approval, first!

How do I keep a journal?
Your best bet is to check out some of the journals currently posted in the "Journal Subforum". Basically, you keep a personal roleplay log, growth log, a record of interactions, introspective/reflective posts (or regular old journal entries). You can even do a private roleplay in here, with just yourself and your Hacker(s) if you want.

That's good, but who are we playing?
Yourself and your Hacker. It can be who you really are, your Gaian self, or an original character you create [or have created] and the Hacker you purchase at .NET.

Roleplay Requirements

From Egg to Child
- Complete ERP (You must post seven times in the ERP before you can end it!)
- 1 Journal Entry
- Prompt Response

From Child to Adult
- 2 Journal Entries
- 3 PRPs
- 1 ORP
- 2 missions or quests
- Prompt Response

From Adult to Elder
- 4 Journal Entries
- 7 PRPs
- 3 ORPs
- 3 missions or quests
- Participate in at least one meta with success
- Prompt Response

Note! Once you have grown, your roleplay count starts over. That means you go from 2 entries to 0 in your growing count.

If you feel your Hacker is due to be grown, feel free to post in the Growth Request Thread. But do so only once! When your Hacker has been grown, your name will be crossed out of the list and an announcement will be made at the shop's thread about the growing. Do not pester colorists if they are a little behind in getting your pet to you!

If you chose to get a Hacker that is not roleplay required, your Hacker will grow by the following:
Egg to Child - 3 week
Child to Adult - 6 weeks
Adult to Elder - 4 months (They're supposed to be rare, after all.)

Breeding

Spliced Breeding - When the owner of a Hacker and their Hacker decide via Solo RP that they would like to have a Hacker born with similar traits as the "parent" Hacker and there is no couple, they may splice themselves with random bits of code to create a new hacker. The new hacker would have some traits of the parent hacker and some random ones as well due to the various bits of coding utilized in the process.

Hackers may splice themselves roughly once per month.
Cost: 7,000 Gold

Coded Breeding - When two Hackers fall in their variation of Love, their coding may mix together and create offspring. The Hacker(s) created from this process would have a mix of traits from the parents. For more than one Hacker to be born, the owner must purchase a special item from the Item Shop prior to the mixing of the coding. The mixed coding can produce as many as three Hacker offspring. The resulting Hackers may be kept by the owners (one each with one given away) or all three may be given away at the discretion of the parents or via games held in the guild. How the offspring will be divided out must be decided before the union is made.

The parents may have some say in the traits passed on, or if a new trait appears in the bloodline from a mishap in the mixing of the coding. Both Hackers must know each other and there must be RP of them falling for one another prior to the Coded Breeding happening. As a side note, all varieties of Hackers may breed with others.

Cost: Varies. (Between 7,000 and 25,000 gold.)

Proof of the required RPs and breeding forms must be posted in the Quests and Breeding shop in the Roleplay section of the guild. Upon approval trades must be sent before work will begin on the offspring.

Hacker Can and Cannots

Hacker Can and Cannots

Q. What can Hackers do while they're eggs?
A. A Hacker still in its egg can float or bounce around your screen and will eat data from your computer. It cannot, however, talk or otherwise communicate with you yet.

Q. What can Hackers do once they've become children?
A. They still eat your data, but now they can interact with you too. They cannot make any changes or adaptations to their environment at this time.

Q. What can they do once they're adults?
A. Things start to get a little more interesting at this stage!
Virii Hackers can communicate with you and more actively with other hackers, they can also infect computers with viruses or bad data by accident, they don't really know what they're doing at this point in time with infecting things.
Antii Hackers can communicate with you and more actively with other hackers, but they will also now help aid your computer's anti-virus program and aid in protecting your computer from human hackers and viruses, but like the Virii, they don't really know what they're doing at this point in time.
Regular Hackers don't do anything special for your computer, but they communicate with you, other hackers, and will be displaying signs of real human emotions and traits at this point in time.

Q. How about once they're elders, what can they do then?
Virii Hackers can do everything then before, but are more knowledgeable about what they're doing. While not all Virii Hackers are bad, the more malicious ones ooze a feeling of being evil or mean and will make the Hackers around them feel unsettled.
Antii Hackers can do everything they could before, but are much more knowledgeable about what they're doing. While not all Antii Hackers are good, the purest ones send out feelings of happiness and peace to those around them. If you are around a pure Antii, your Hacker will feel more peaceful than they would normally.
Regular Hackers still do everything they could before.

Please note: Unless you have received special permission at NO TIME may your Hacker godmod another. Hackers may not control other Hackers in any way, shape, or form without permission from the owner of the other Hacker.

Hacker Communication Basics

You may talk at them or type to them, to communicate. However at this time they can only type to you. They will do this in a manner similar to .Hack//Sign, where the people in the game move their mouths and a text area appears below or above them, with the words appearing there.

This would be a good way to show this form of communication:

Li'tae: Moving around the screen with a slightly sinister grin on his face, he quickly inquired,

Where do Hackers Live?

They live in anything that can carry data. Jump drives, computers, cell phones, PDAs, blackberries...Just beware! Hackers live by eating data, so if you put them on a device, expect some data loss unless you save a file just for them to munch on!
