Oh, come on. I know every band (as a whole or as a section) has some weird thing they do before they go into competition. Same with Marching Band, whenever you're about to go out onto the football field or compete within a contest.
One band I met, they all went to concession stands and ordered 20 pixie sticks, and sat in the stands, getting sugar hypes. Heh, sadly I was the one at the selling seat, sorting through all the colors, giving the buyer whatever I could find (spent 10 minutes trading colors with him before they went back to the stands.)
As for myself, my Horn section worships a can of 10 year old YAMS. Yes, yams. Each year it is passed from section leader to section leader, and before every came, we kiss this can for the best of luck.
Well, what about you guys? xD

Of COURSE, we have to say "You ain't held nothin' til you held a timber rattler." because JP, our hilarious baritone player, likes to go hang out in the woods and ride his bike around town when he was a broken leg. So basically before every runthough and competition and football game performance, we'd say "You ain't held nothin' til you held a timber rattler!"

We haven't done any weird rituals yet, but I'm going to start one up this next marching band season.

When we go to contests we press the "fun" button that is located at the bus loading section.
Chug on Monsters at 6:30am for contest and come to practice before the contest. Ritual by our senior Bari sax player Jack. He comes drunk and has a monster every time for contests.
Contests songs and Disney songs=Awesome CP dance on the stands. YAY-YUH!!

We don't do much cuz we're one hell of a boring band section.. sad But the low brasses sing in the back of the bus
And during pep band we sing along with the cheerleaders. which of course, piss them off, but hey. we do it better then they can so it's cool.

Well, it's not a wierd tradition, but before we went on the field, the brass would all take our mouthpieces off and ckink them like champagne glasses. We'd hit and swirl them in the air, listining to the beautiful sound you can sometimes get.
It's kind of funny when a woodwind would get jealous and try to do it too (they failed). Although, I have done it with a percussionist.

with my old band director, who was bald... before every performance the entire band would put on hand on his head and say, "1, 2, 3 PRIDE!" haha, it was pretty funny... two years ago, pne of the senior flutes always had to put her hand on first, or she'd get so pissed off.

We are pretty boring. Though the band bus is funny afterwords though. Take it this way: We only lost one game, so we were always in pretty sugary moods. We had two buses: bus 1 was for those who put instuments on the truck(Tubas, baritones/trombones, guard, percussion, etc) and bus 2(Everyone else, including all saxes, clarinets, flutes and trumpets). So, obviously I wa son bus 2. We had three part songs going on. Front: Bad Day Middle: We will Rock you/We are the champians/you like to move it Back(I wa shere. This song was thnaks to my SL): Pokemon: Gotta Catch Em all(XD) And to the festival we had a song battle going on between three girls singing this weird "I like your hair" song, and two boys singing Bad Day at the front. The boys were trumpets and the girls were a flute, clarinet and trumpet.

Before every competition and football game, my trumpet section would rub our section leader's belly for good luck. According to our seniors, it's been going on for 4 years now. The other sections think it's weird, and some try to join in. But we're all like "no! you'll ruin the good luck! only trumpets can do this!" It's funny.

In my band, we started the wave at band competitions. [New tradition!] And on Bus 1, the boys in the back would always sing stuff like Family Guy, songs from the Killers, and Pokemon, and if the color guard girls start to sing, one of the cymbalists will scream "FARTING CONTEST!" and shut the guards up. XD I think someone said something earlier about the Pokemon song. Typical band nerds! ^_^

Before we went on the field for every football game or contest, our two senior trumpets took their mouthpieces out of their horns. The rest of the trumpets left them in and held our horns out, mouthpieces up. The seniors came around and clanked mouthpieces with us and yelled "For Mono!". For games, it was when we were outside the gate waiting for the time to run out for halftime. At contests, it was after we get in uniform, while we're lining up to march the long trek to the field. Fun stuff.
