I'm going to try out bass clarinet, because Ben owns one and he's not in concert or jazz band.
So, how hard would it be to start playing bass clarinet, with all those keys, for a trombone, trumpet and baritone player?
I can't read treble well, but I could adjust.

I found it really hard to learn treble then i started piano and everything became so much easier. I suggest doing some piano stuff to help learn treble.

hmm let see, if you learn the abbreviations for each staffline its not really that hard, I played handbells in the bass and played bari sax normally and it took a little bit of learning to do but it is definilty doable, as for the change in keys you are going to be getting alot better at fingering ;p, actually for me was quite fun when I switched from baritone to bari sax, but I like to press buttons alot so that probably helped, however it is going to take some work, so my best advice to you is to do the thing that we all love and hate the most, practice, practice, practice I like Amy's idea I never thought of doing that or I might have tried that also, but you will know if its your thing or not within the week if not immeditly some people are just better at fingering then others, anyway enough with the band jokes, that's my advice if you have any specific questions, i've been there and done that so feel free to ask!

It's fairly difficult if you've spent most of your music life in the bass clef. I'm the opposite, but thankfully piano did help learn both bass and treble pretty well. I still favor the treble, but hey, that's just me.

Heads up, you can and probably will destroy your ombasure though. I played bass clarinet as well as tuba and I would get calluses on my bottom lip that would make buzzing annoying and a little difficult.

I think Tuba will be my next instrument...If I can find one for a good price.
