This region is controlled primarily by the super-nation known as the Atlantic Federation(Which is composed of the former nations of Canada, the United States, Mexico, Great Britain and most of Central America) which is the leading member of the Earth Alliance. The South American continent is also part of the Alliance, but did not join willing as it was originally controlled by a pro-ZAFT government known as the United States of South America, and was forcibly conquered by the Earth Alliance, so bases there now belong to EA Forces. The primary holding in this zone was previously Porto Panama, one of the Alliance's three spaceports, however, the attack on the Panama base resulted in the destruction of the Mass Driver used to launch ships into orbit.

~Earth Alliance Military Base- Venezuelan Coast

The squawks of emercency radios and status alerts still sounded in Iquel's ears. Not more than half a day before, the Earth Alliance's base and Mass Driver at Porto Panama had fallen under ZAFT attack. The Alliance had deployed the Strike Daggers for the first time in a major battle. A few pre-production Strike Daggers and special model Duel Daggers had been used in Alaska, and a few minor skirmishes, but at Panama they were deployed for the first time en mass... to no true avail. Zaft had deployed its new Gugnir weapon, that destroyed all electronic equipment, including the Mass Driver. ZAFT had gotten its revenge for the battle at JOSH-A Alaska. The atrocious deployment of the Cyclops system had brought more doubts to Iquel's already reluctant involvement in the Earth Alliance. Iquel had fough extremely hard in the battle of JOSH-A, using his pre-mass production Duel Dagger, escorting a ship with wounded personnel away from that base, managing to shoot down five veteran ZAFT pilots, though at the cost of an arm, though spare parts were easy to come by and it was repaired fairly quickly after the battle, but he had a leg broken and a head injury from the rocking around in the cockpit during that fight, but he had survived, and the Alliance High Command, had bestowed a reward and a title to him for his efforts, though it was mostly to work along with their ruse, to make it appear that it wasn't a ploy made by the high command to destroy so much of ZAFT's fighting strength. Iquel accepted the title, but it hadn't endeared him toward the Earth Forces, his concern was his friend Bella and her safety.

Iquel sat on the dock of the base, leaning against a lamp-post. He sighed mightily looked at the late-afternoon sky. He had almost wanted to fight at Panama, but only to release his tension. But he had been stuck on base defense, and it allowed him to remain close and protect Bella, and that was all he wanted to do. Though he always felt concerned whenever he couldn't be at her side, and feared that she was being mistreated because of what she was. He hated that sort of intolerant behavior, it didn't make sense, and he knew that Bella received the harmful end of it. What he wanted to do was to leave the Alliance, but only when Bella was ready to go. He would not allow her to be alone with these people. "I won't let anyone harm you..." He said aloud. "And find a place where we can be free of this s***." He looked into the horizon, thinking about what was to come.

~ZAFT Vosgulov-class submarine, Armand

Aboard the Armand Ryan Flickerbat sat in the pilots briefing room. The room was windowless and dimly lit, but the other pilots on the ship, including himself were transfers from space, drop soldiers sent directly to Earth, the Panama base, from space to detonate Gugnir's and destroy that base. Now he had been reassigned to an ocean ship. But would it lead to an ideal world? Ryan didn't know, but he was feeling like the world he wanted was steadily slipping away from him. However, he had other obligations, to his home in the PLANTs... his want for a better world had become a secondary objective. But that didn't mean he had to like it.

After a long day of work the thought of relaxing a bit seemed so wonderful. Bella Right walked down the docks, enjoying the last warming rays of the tropical sun. Her light blond pony tail bounced happily along with her energized gait. She watched the sun setting, and the sky become whitewashed with an explosion of colors. She could see the moon already far above them, dyed the same shade of red as the falling pink sun. She knew that many had died today, and again her thoughts moved to Iquel. He could have easily been one of the fallen soldiers who's body she had looked over thought out the course of the day. She looked up, coming out of her thoughts for a moment. She smiled to herself, seeing the person she had been looking for. She raised her hand to wave hello to him.

It all seemed to happen so suddenly. Bella swore that before anything happened she heard the wack as a bucket's worth of water fell from the sky. Only after hearing the sound did she feel the wet cold soaking her uniform. She looked up just in time to see a couple of shadowy figured ducking out of her view point. She sighed, blushing with embarrassment. She could catch traces of the sickening scent of fish. The boys were gone, at least there was that. She shivered feeling the chill of the night fall over her body.

Iquel turned and saw Bella get dunked under the bucket of rancid water, he sprang up and went over to her, his hand immediately falling to the gun at his side. The figures responsible had disappeared, and his hand relaxed, but his eyes remained narrow for a few seconds before looking toward Bella. "Are you alright?" He asked, a breeze blowing his hair and the collar of his uniform, which was undone and its sleeves were turned up. He sniffed and grimaced. "Jerks. I'll mess 'em up if I catch them. I won't let them get a free ride." He smiled at Bella. "Hey, I haven't got-" Suddenly a beep from Iquel's communicator interrupted him, he wanted to ask her to join him in the mess hall, but he would never get that opportunity tonight. He put the ear-bud in and sighed. "Iquel here, what's up?" He asked.

"You're on night patrol, your unit is ready to go. Get to the hangar ASAP and deploy." Came the reply.

Iquel turned and held the radio tightly. "Is the Fortresta Mode set?" He asked.

"I have no info on your equipment, only your assignment. Your medical reports say your are all set, or are you having any new problems?"

"No." Iquel said. "The cybernetic brace is working fine and I'll be able to take it off in the morning, according to the medics. I'll be right over." He said, cutting the line and jamming the ear-piece into a pocket. He turned back to Bella and smiled sadly. "It looks like tonight isn't gonna work so well..." He said sadly. "Maybe we can talk later... want me to send a message to you when I get back from patrol?" He asked.

Bella watched Iquiel, and from where she stood she listened and waited for his conversation to end. "Yes," She said softly despite her feeling that she knew how to hide so well, "I am fine. Thank you for worrying." she said smiling at him. "I am sorry. I was hoping to catch you before you left." She clasped her hands together before her. Bits of her hair began to blow in the gentle breeze, she nodded, "Would you please, I want to know that you are safe. Please be careful tonight Iquiel, how long do you think you will be?" She knew that even if they could have been together tonight she may still spent a lot of the night getting the small out of her hair.

"If all goes well, I should be back in four hours. If we find something, regardless of whether its an enemy or something else, it could be awhile." Iquel said with a sigh. "I'll be careful, Bella. You have my word. I'll call as soon as I get back. Rest well Bella... and a shower might be helpful." He said with tongue in cheek. "See you! Be careful yourself!" He said as he started to make his way off to the hangar, waving to Bella as he left. Iquel moved quickly to a locker room at the hangar. He changed into his flight suit, which was issued to him in dark gray and white with red shoulder patchs, rather than the standard issue tan, orange and black of normal Alliance pilots. He entered the hangar and stared up at his unit, he saw a tech he recognized and hailed him. "Hey! Harry! What happened to the fortresta mode?" He asked.

The tech sighed and shrugged. "We all looked it over, but its beyond repair after the paces your put it through in Alaska. Had to break what was left down to be reused for spare parts. We did manage to find a spare shield not assigned to the Strike Daggers and we will be mounting it on." He said.

Iquel nodded. "Alright then." Was all he said. He climbed the ladder to the pilot scaffolding and went over to his unit. The dark gray and red Mobile Suit stood out against the blue and light grays of the Strike Daggers. He climbed into the cockpit and turned on his signal and radio and clicked that he was all set, and jammed his helmet on, not putting the blast shielding on. "Control, what units will be heading out for the current patrol shift?" He asked through the radio channel. The reply came in a text message, that stated that three Strike Daggers and six fighter planes would be out on the patrol with him. Two fighters had already taken off. He sighed and closed the cockpit, and waited for his equipment to get mounted.

~Aboard the Armand

Ryan was biting into a candy bar he had been saving for a dull moment, when a communication came on the briefing screen.

"I see your already in the briefing room. Good. I was about to send you on reconnaissance of the Alliance base nearby." Said the captain.

Ryan stood up. "Yessir." He said saluting. "I'll gear up and head out. Is this a group or a solo exercise?" He asked.

"Your the commander of your mobile suit squad, Ryan. I'll leave it up to you. We just need a little data."

Ryan thought for a moment. "No.. I'll head it alone, unless the situation changes." He determined. "Since it wouldn't be good to engage an entire base, now that we know that the EAF has mobile suits. Mount an AWAC dish onto my DINN. I'll collect more data with less warning that way." He said. The captain nodded and cut the transmission, and Ryan was soon in the ready room, changing into his flight suit.

Bella waved good-bye to Iquel. "Thank you." She said after him. Placing her hands around her mouth she called after him, "Please be careful! Take care of yourself!" She watched him go, her hands slid up her arms and she wrapped herself in a hug against the cold breeze.

Once he was out of sight she turned, walking back along the path she had come. In her mind she tried to forget about the rancid scent of fish and instead she tried to picture the sweet smell of the strawberry shampoo and conditioner waiting for her in her room. She could already imagine the warm water, and warm dry clothes also waiting for her.

Ryan climbed into his DINN and closed the cockpit, waiting for the catapult to get set. He checked his settings and his switches and made sure that every thing was set when he got the message everything was all set. "Alright then." He said, pulling the blast shield down on his helmet. "This is Ryan Flickerbat. DINN, taking off!" He said and launched from the catapult. He spread the wings of his suit when he was at the high enough altitude, and then set course for his objective.

Iquel felt the tell-tale shaking as the shield and rifle where set on his mobile suit and held the controls tightly. The Strike Daggers accompanying him sent in that they were ready. "Alright Control," he said, "We're all ready to go here."

The reply soon came. "Junior Lieutenant Flickerbat, you may deploy."

Iquel nodded. "This is Iquel Flickerbat, I'm heading out!" He said as his unit plodded out of the hangar. For a brief moment he turned his unit to face docks before turning back around and moving toward the assinged patrol areas.

Ryan watched as heat sources appeared on his sensors. Unless I'm mistaken, they have three mobile suits on watch... but they probably have vehicles on watch as well... better play it safe than sorry. He thought reluctantly as he drew the weapons on his mobile suit.

It wasn't long before Bella was to the doors of the clinic. Inside, along one of the halls the rooms for the medics were roped off. She looked to the sky before entering the clinic and again hoped Iquel would be alright and that he would not find any trouble tonight. She shivered once more, fearing the worst, but not really wanting to think about it.

The halls seemed clear enough, she rushed inside and quickly found the door to her room. Upon request she had asked not to share a room with others. They had allowed it for now. Bella slipped inside her room and she quickly locked the door. Once inside she could relax, somewhat. She made her way to the bathroom to wash away the fishy smell, and to warm herself.

Iquel saw a faint light in the distance. Due to the restrictions caused by N-jammers, his sensor range was hampered and he couldn't tell for sure what it was. It was probably one of the fighter planes ahead scouting... but Iquel had a hunch that that wasn't the case, and one didn't become a so-called "ace" pilot without working on hunches. "Control this is Lieutenant Flickerbat! I've caught sight of a suspicious aircraft, I'm going to check it out!" He said over the line.

"Roger, Lieutenant! Permission to engage!" Came a reply.

Iquel punched the throttle to full speed and the thruster carried him into the air in the direction of the aircraft. His prepped the energy rifle and narrowed his eyes. Come on... go away. I don't want to fight... but I'll have to if you don't go! He thought.

A warning came up in Ryan's suit and he cursed. "Damn, I've been spotted!" He said. He saw the light of a thruster, but it took bit to spot the enemy mobile suit, as it was dark in it coloring. "Sorry, bud. But I've can't let you get to me!" He said as he fired his anti-air shotgun.

Iquel dodged the shots and grimaced. "Damn! Control, I've identified an enemy mobile suit! Its a DINN with dark coloring!" He said, and calls came over the line to confirm his data. He'd have to hold this one while he the others scrambled. He raised his rifle and fired at the DINN.

Ryan dodged and returned with a round from his machine gun. He opened a laser line communication to the Armand. "This is Ryan, I've been spotted, and if they follow EA procedure, they'll search for the ship! Send out the other suits and call for any other ships. We have no choice but to engage enemy forces. Its my fault, so you can put the blunder on me." He said. Ryan sighed and began to engage the Duel Dagger that had come up to him.

A siren rang throughout the Earth Alliance base. "Warning! All personnel report to your stations! We have identified enemy forces, and we are at condition red! I repeat, we have identified enemy forces and we are at condition red. All personnel report to your stations!" Came the announcement.

With a start Bella jumped, her bottle of sweet conditioner slipped from her hands clattering noisily to the ground. Her fingers ran quickly though her hair trying to rinse the remaining conditioner out. She heard a buzz at the door and knew she was to join the others while they prepared for wounded soldiers to begin coming in. 'Damn,' she thought jumping out of the shower and quickly drying off. Iquel had found something, and now they were going to fight. Her stomach was flipping now, and her worries were out though the ceiling. She dressed in a new, clean uniform, and for good measure sprayed her palms and blouse with a raspberry perfume. She rushed for the door, locking it as she left. She began to run down the hall with other medics aroused from their short relaxation.

Iquel fired his beam rifle several times at the DINN, though each one was dodged with ease. However, Iquel was not trying to hit the DINN with those shots, he was evaluating the pilot's response time. A trick that he had learned piloting mobile armors in space combat earlier in the war. No one survived long against ZAFT mobile forces with conventional tactics or weapons, let alone garner an "ace" rank from High Command, though the award had been given to him by the few surviving Eurasian Federation commaders (which itself was a surprise as Iquel had been from the Atlantic Federation and had only transferred to a Eurasian Federation unit to stick with Bella), for defending their few surviving ships, not the Atlantic Federation which had considered demoting him, if it wasn't for his combat record and that they needed a poster-boy. He shook those thoughts away however, the battle ahead was what was most important, and he had to protect those at the base... a rather, he had to protect Bella, there weren't many others on the base truly worth protecting from Iquel's perspective.

Ryan grimaced as he dodged the enemy shots. What I would do to get a beam rifle! Does this guy think that he doesn't need to aim just because he's got a powerful weapon? He thought. Suddenly it occurred to him that the shots weren't meant to hit him. Is this guy a softy? Not likely... they would have weeded him out of a combat position by now if he was. He mused as he fired his shotgun.

Aboard the Armand, the mobile suit launch decks were busy as assault weapons were mounted on GINN's and they were set on GUUL's for atmospheric movement. Two DINN's launched to support Ryan's unit first. The captain of the ship sighed, the situation was starting to become a big mess. He hoped reinforcements could come, he didn't really want to take on a base... but he also wanted to spruce up his reputation with a victory or two. But even then, the Flickebat team would get all the credit if there was a victory.

~Armand Brig~

Lucifer sighed as he lay on the bunk. All everything nowadays is fighting. I can't find joy in anything now, but fighting eases the pain now and then... The cell door opened, Luki's "handler standing there. "Get up, get in your GINN, and help out Flickerbat, don't engage-" He said "unless i have to, yeah yeah i know" Luki finished for him. Luki got up, ignoring his handler's outrage. Luki got to the hanger, the techs taking off the impound on his GINN, and putting it on a GUUL. Luki climbed into the cockpit, launching but hovering close to the Armand, until further notice.

Bella stood preparing unmade beds, readying liquids for patients. She checked lines and made sure the fridge was full. She sighed trying to keep busy, anything to keep herself distracted. She listened for any sounds either good or bad. She wrapped her hand around a small metal cross strung though a string that lay around her neck. She lever went anywhere without it. The memories held within it were both wonderful, and terrible, but it was her, and now she held it. Bowing her head to pray.

Iquel blocked the attacks, and narrowed his eyes. So... that's what you have... he's good, there's no doubt of that. He thought. He fired the grenade launcher on his rifle, but the explosive was shot out before it got halfway to him. Good aim too. But you didn't notice it quick enough. He holstered the beam rifle and drew one of his beam sabers. The yellow blade pulsed in the dark sky, and he blasted into the air slashing at the DINN.

"What?!" Ryan said in surprise. I've been had! I never thought that a natural would be that good! Who is this guy? He though as he attempted to dodge, but the energy weapon sliced through his shotgun, and he was forced to throw the weapon away as it exploded. "Alright, hotshot! You're toast!" He said, switching the machine gun and unfolding the heavy blade attached to his machine's arm. As Ryan was about to slash, a missile warning went off and he immediately evaded the attack and shot away the missile's. He saw a fighter plane making a run at him, and he shot the plane down with his machine gun. The fighter exploded in a resounding light, but Ryan took no joy in the kill. It saddened him deeply, especially after Alaska and Panama... his brother had probably died in either engagement.

Iquel cursed as a fellow pilot was shot down, but he didn't have time to grieve in a combat situation. That would have to be done later. Chatter from the communication lines allowed him to get data of the other areas. More mobile suits had arrived and the outer defenses had quickly fallen under enemy fire. This is turning into a hell-hole. Please be safe Bella. I won't let them get to the base! He thought. He had lost track of the DINN's he had been fighting but, he soon picked up another heading straight for him. He put away the beam saber and drew his rifle.

An announcement went out to the infirmary. "All front-line medics are to report to the briefing area and receive their assignment. All base medics ready all equipment for incoming wounded as they are brought in."
