I think the portrayal of Apollo, Artemis, and Dionysus is interesting.
When I think Dionysus I think a man who is kinda drunk all the time and pretty cheerful. I like how he's portrayed though. It's really interesting and I think he's funny.
Apollo I wasn't as crazy about but I guess that's just because he doesn't seem like the brightest god in the books. There was one thing I loved about the portrayal in TC I loved how he was going against Zeus and helping Percy and the others all because his sister had been kidnapped and they were going after her. To me that stated that they might get on each other's nerves but they still care deeply about the other.
I didn't find much wrong with Artemis wasn't expecting her to run around in the form of a 12 year old but that's just me. I liked how she was portrayed pretty well. I enjoyed the Jackalope comment.
All in all I wish the Twins would show up again. I'd enjoy seeing more of them as well as some more interaction between the two.

I am a diehard obsessed PJO fan, but there are some things I just can't stand about the books and that's one of them: he makes Artemis out to be a sexist b*tch.
I can see why heartbroken girls would want to become hunters, (pretty much my story, this is is SOOO childish of my obsessive self but I actually took a book into the yard, dressed in as close as I could find to hunter attire and braided my hair, ((you have no idea how long that took, my hair is very long it hangs down to my hips)) then closed my eyes and took the oath, wondering if Artemis could hear me and hoping that if I was suddenly and magically swept away to a new adventurous life with the hunters that I would magically get some archery skill too ((I am a terrible archer--tried it once, and when I aimed at a target about 20 ft in front of me the arrow went about 50 ft behind me o_O)))
Anyways, I absolutely HATE how Artemis is in PJO.
And yes of course Dionysus would be grumpy, I know he is the ultimate god of partying, but he's stuck with a bunch of kids and on probation.
Also, remember he's the god of wine so he's also the god of hangovers. ^^
Apollo was funny. I would have expected him to be maybe a bit more charismatic, but then I don't know how much more it can be described-- the only girls he's ever around are the hunters and we know Thalia was a little smitten by him, before she became a hunter of course, so there was nothing more RR could really do there.
I loved the portrayal of Hermes, it was perfect! (But then, he's one of my favourite male gods anyway.) And Zeus and Poseidon were done pretty well too.
I also liked how Athena was done. She came off only as mean and stuck up, and I think she could have been seen as firstly dignified, then cruel to Percy in her planning, but when she leaves when she talked to him at the party in the end of book 3, she could have given a graceful acknowledgement. But idk now I'm just rambling ^^

I guess RR assumed that she would be sexist simply because she was a virgin and turned a man into a stag. He could ahve done better.

i agree, Artemis would never be a sexist, you remember the story of Theseus' son? she loved him. also Apollo couldn't be such an airhead, he was patron of music and god of the sun and etc. Athene was the goddess of wisdom and would be stern, but not a b**** like rr portrayed her. i like the books, and the series in general, but the gods could be portrayed differently. i DID like the portrayal of hades, the way he seems frustrated, you would be too if you were him lol

Most of the gods were pretty good, some of them I thought were so/so and a few made me disappointed.
Zeus was an a**, the way he threatened to destroy Percy if he used air travel made me kept thinking of Zeus as a bratty little hypocrite since he broke the promise the big 3 made yet acted like he was so high above everyone else.
Hades gave me the impression of being fair and I liked him here, can't really say what it is but I did.
I thought Artemis might have been a little sexist but it didn't bother me too much, she was strong and cool, but I guess her biggest flaw to me was that she told Percy that the origin of Santa was her. I remember after reading it thinking that it was really goofy, and I thought, "What does she gain a lot of weight and grow a beard every winter?" rolleyes
I liked Dionysus I remember feeling shocked that he was grouchy and mean, I always thought of Dionysus as nice especially since he was a former demigod. But the PJO version really grew on me and I like him a lot.
Hermes was perfect, he's an easy god to get right I think and I thought he was a fun character to read.
Another perfect portrayl was Ares. I love that he was such a bully and a sore loser. I always imagined him that way.
Hephaestos was okay, I wasn't too impressed or anything. I don't think there's much that could be wrong about him. I though that RR distorted his and Hera's relationship though.
Hera was a disappointment to me, when she was nice I was happy because Hera shouldn't always get pegged as the b***h but all of a sudden she went bitchy at the end and I thought it was cliche. I don't think she was that OCD in the original myths. It was just too exaggerated.
Athena was so/so I thought she was good up until she chastised Percy for being with Annabeth, that made me want to yell at her for being so ignorant.
Apollo was also so/so I thought he was likeable but he seemed so ditzy. He seemed like a male model/frat guy mix.
I don't have much of an opinion on Poseidon, I thought he was a bit cool in the first book and in the last book he seemed nice for a god.
Aphrodite was good as well she seemed sweet in a bubbly way when she talked to Percy.

I mean, Artemis has the sleigh but she's hardly anything like Santa and I can't see her taking the time to drop off presents. I just looked it up in the book: Quote: "Like Santa Claus's sleigh," I murmured, still dazed with pain. Artemis took time to look back at me. "Indeed, young half-blood. And where do you think that legend came from?"

It is somewhat disturbing to think of her looking like Santa. I"m sure APollo would have a blast with teasing her about the whole thing.

I"m sure APollo would have a blast with teasing her about the whole thing. ...I'd forgotten it was her and thought it WAS Apollo... o.O I mean, at least he's male. But I kind of see where she's coming from. Legends collectively build up and twist off from many natural but odd-seeming occurences documented together, and though there were probably already many things building up the idea of "Santa", I'm sure she's tired of her chariot being mistaken for many different things as random mortals saw it fly off in the night over the centuries.

I"m sure she is. Especially if APollo like any good younger sibling teases her about it. That would ahve to be embarassing and annoying iff all of her siblings teased her about it considering how many of them she has.
