hey so im not a composer or even that great at music or music theory. but my question is kinda vague because i dont really know excactly what im trying to say.

haha. so anyways, here's my theoretical scenario for a music piece and i want to hear from people who actually know what is going on.

lets say someone writes a piece for a simple concert band, but had like woodwinds and brass in separate key signatures. im not taking like F major and Db. I was just wondering if there were a plausible way to make it work. Or say like in a a duet to make the two instruments sound like different languages. I understand its not normal but if you somehow worked it around it could it work

you could do a "call and reply" sort of peice, where one key signature playes, then the other plays.

there are also peices where it isn't meant to sound like the notes fit, but that's what gives it such a wonderful sound (Usually ominous)

I suggest listening to this peice as an example of the second option. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sjPPX-7YII

Well you could do that, as the person above said you could do a call and response type thing.
But if you do that too much then the whole song will be weird

yes, i suppose...which is why I put more effort into the second option by giving an example sweatdrop ninja

Do you mean you want the two parts to be in two different keys? If so, I would go with no key signature at all and just use accidentals. It would probably be less confusing.

I think I've heard examples of pieces that have multiple keys at once, but I'm drawing a blank right now. D:
