This thread is to give shout outs to any and everyone participating in a BOA competition, ask questions about BOA, and find out "OMG! who else saw that nasty spill in the such and such band?!" I didn't see any other threads dedicated to BOA, so I thought I'd make one.

The reason I thought to make this thread is cause I was wondering if any of you guys were at the BOA regionals playing at UTArlington? My husband and I are old UTA marching band alumni, so we decided to go watch the regional finals last night. It was great! I really wish the Winston Churchill band from San Antonio had gotten first though. I enjoyed their show much better than Reagan's and I thought their colorguard was amazing... you could hear the clicks everytime they threw and caught the rifles... they were all extrememly well timed. I don't really remember anything about the Regan band... other than I thought the colorguard pants were a major distraction and I kept expecting some sort of visual from them since the inner thighs were black... but i don't even know what their show was about! *sigh* just goes to show you that the judges are looking for different stuff.

i just preformed at the silver dome on saterday... we didn't do as good this year as we did in years before, we didn't even go to the finals... we were rated as a division 2 band.. but i think it mostly had to do with the fact that we dont use props like some bands do.. we're strictly marching.. which i think should be changed personaly.. but anyway.. there is always next year

penguin8908 i just preformed at the silver dome on saterday... we didn't do as good this year as we did in years before, we didn't even go to the finals... we were rated as a division 2 band.. but i think it mostly had to do with the fact that we dont use props like some bands do.. we're strictly marching.. which i think should be changed personaly.. but anyway.. there is always next year i feel your pain there... that's why our band never even got to compete in boa competitions... we were a strictly marching band... no crazy pre-recorded voice overs or sound effects, no sythesizer key boards... we didn't even mic solos! We also never really had any props to speak of. We couldn't do any of that stuff because we suffered in our UIL regionals enough as it was... being one of 2 corp bands in an all military style division SUCKS! the judges always ripped up cause they were military and i don't think they had any idea about these "new aged" corps-style things we were doing. I was so heart broken my senior year because we played The Price of Egypt for our show and performed it outstandingly in UIL competition... but we got ripped because the judges didn't like the part where we all sang the little freedom song in Hebrew... oh well... screw them. We were the only band there to recieve 3 standing ovations that night! We were also the only band to recieve a 2... when they announced it the entire crowd boo'd. At least we know the audience enjoyed it. We had people from all the other bands coming up to us on the way back to the busses telling us they thought we should have gotten a one. I was standing there when the drum majors from three other bands came up to our drum majors and said, "You know what... getting a first division from those judges doesn't mean as much to us anymore, since we can see they have poor judgement skills when it comes to talent and performance." It was really touching.... anyway... I'm blabbering. sweatdrop

I got back from BoA at St. Petersburg. We didn't do well at all. We made a division two rating. All of us were shocked. But we only cared if we got into finals. Found out we didn't. Nearly half the seniors, including me (not a senior) cryed. Both of our ex- band directors made it to finals though so I was bound to see them rub it in our faces.
We have no clue what the judges were thinking when they scored us. We stayed to watched the finalist anyway. I wasn't at all impressed with three of the bands there. When we go to school tomorrow we'll be able to watch our proformance and listen to the types.
We are going back to St. Pete for State though. Thats when everyone better watch out. This show actually woke us up into thinking that we don't always win. So starting on Tuesday we're going to be practicing twice as hard. And next year they see exactly what Silver Magic really is.

WE performed, like, 2 months ago at BOA. Anyway, we won our class, but we didn't advance to finals. So, we did the last exhibition with the stand packed. It was an honor, really. anyway, I would just like to say that the Ell de Bell and Winston Churchill bands are two of the most amazing bands I've ever seen in my entire life. Oh my gosh, it's simply breathtaking to watch them.

Our band went to the RCA Indianapolis Grand National competition and got 22 in semi-finals. We moved up 8 spots from prelims. We got all excited because we got to see like, the last 10 bands at prelims and one of them did a show called Impressions and used our opener from the year before. (it was a piece called The Canyon and was all about triangles).
