FOCA, or The Freedom Of Choice Act, is a bill that would lift all restrictions on abortion. It's basically every pro-choicers pride and joy. Here are the facts:
FOCA will do away with state laws on parental involvement, on partial birth abortion, and on all other protections. FOCA will compel taxpayer funding of abortions. FOCA will force faith-based hospitals and healthcare facilities to perform abortions.
But wait, there's more:
FOCA Would Wipe Away Every Restriction on Abortion Nationwide This would eradicate state and federal laws that the majority of Americans support, such as:
Bans on Partial Birth Abortion Requirements that women be given information about the risks of getting an abortion Only licensed physicians can perform abortions Parents must be informed and give consent to their minor daughter's abortion FOCA would erase these laws and prevent states from enacting similar protective measures in the future.
So this is just Roe. vs Wade the sequel or has the pro-choice movement gone too far? Debate is to begin in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...Blast off!

If you want an actual debate, I'd suggest bringing this to the pro-life/pro-choice subforum, assuming you know the rules, accept them, and will follow them.
One of those rules is respecting people, including pro-choice people, and being civil. It wouldn't hurt to try and understand their point of view.
I can move this thread for you if you'd like. Otherwise you're only going to hear one side of the debate, really, beyond the common sense of "it protects RvW."
Also, the facts are that FOCA "could" not "would." It's a matter of interpretation, but those things are not explicitly written into the FOCA.

I will move it for you right now if you'd like! Only mods can move topics. I apologize if I'm misunderstanding you and will move this back to the main forum if you would like me to.
Edit: Nevermind! Teaches me a lesson in being a lazy mod sweatdrop In the future, it's possible for a mod to move threads for you if you don't want to recreate the thread and don't want duplicate threads going.

I'll be honest. I think that Roe v. Wade was a radical bill. But that's just me.

Tjix I'll be honest. I think that Roe v. Wade was a radical bill. But that's just me. Roe V. Wade wasn't a bill. It was a court ruling, based on the Constitution. In reality, it's Constitutionality is extremely questionable, but it's still not a bill. The FOCA is actually sort of supposed to turn Roe v. Wade into legislation, basically.

I learned about FOCA in school because i go to a private catholic school thats not part of the diocese so they teach us and tell us everything involving the president, abortion and such. When i heard about this bill i can honestly say i cried...the day they were making a decision involving it we prayed the rosary in a couple classes!!!
