"No, we are going this way today" A voice echoed through the few small whispey trees that kissed the open savannah, the trees, had provided some well needed respite for the small female serval. "And no it's not time to stop yet we only just started." The young serval sighed and shook her head as she padded on in silence. Cresting a small rise in the savannah she peered out quietly over the wide open plains, her nostrils flared as she took in a deep breath breathing in the scents of the world around her.
"Isn't it beautiful out here." She purrs her golden eyes capturing the sunlight in just the right manner..
"Why are we still out here Nekobasu? You know theers huge massive birds out here that can eat a cat like you, yanno you aint no lion!" a voice echoed from the small cats thick fur.
The serval sighed and rolled her eyes "No bird is going to eat me, stop your worrying and look at the world we are in. It's beautiful."
A gentle wave parted the golden grass a few yards ahead of the rise where Nekobasu stood. Suddenly, a flurry of birds erupted from the meadow, preceded by a blur of orange and brown fur shooting into the air after the tumult of flapping wings. Chache the Great Bird Catcher snapped his paws around the tweeting bird, sinking in his claws. He stretched out his neck, catching the bird’s head in his jaws as he fell, and angled his feet to the ground for another perfect landing. A devious grin spread across his black serval lips as he turned to watch the other birds scatter. The bird in his mouth was crippled. Her legs flapped uselessly though she surely knew escape was now impossible. She was worthy prey, so he would honor her with a swift death.
"It's an attack it's an attack!!" The second voice once again yelled as birds fluttered up in to the air.
Nekobasu chuckled lightly "Hush, it is not an attack that other cat down there is just getting himself some breackfast. We should say hello." Turning a smile on to her maw she turned to face the other feline and made a beeline towards him, pausing ocasionally to batt at a fallen feather. She soon found herself face to face with the tomcat though and her head tilted in a friendly, though overly curious manner. "You're a boy." came the statement, she looked almost surprised to be faced with a male of her own species.
"Of course it's a boy, you should turn away now or you'll get eaten!" The odd small voice echoed from the small female cats back.
"I won't get eaten! For gawds sake papa will you stop saying I'm going to be eaten every time I do something new." She blinks owlishly, suddenly realising she was standing in front of a stranger, seemingly talking to herself. "Uh..hi." She grins broadly her smile as wide as could be.
Chache whirled around defensively, ears back and tail erect. When he realized the serval meant him no harm his ears perked forward and his posture loosened. That was before he heard her speak. He curled his tail around his legs, eyes flickering nervously as she ranted to herself. There seemed to be another voice coming from somewhere. He glanced fearfully at the bird still thrashing in his jaws, but all he could hear was breathless gasping.
With as much gentleness as the situation called for, he placed her body under his paw and swiftly broke her neck. Out of misery and out of mind. He sighed, holding his meal securely under his paw. “Um… hello, miss? Are you alright?”
The young feline flushed a little, she'd managed to embarress herself and felt foolish infront of this stranger. "Uhm, I'm fine I was just talking to them." She looks upwards where a silver grey mouse with bright blue eyes sat perched upon her head. "He's worried you're going to eat me like yu did that bird." She giggles a little and looks at her paws "I told him you wouldn't though, cause you're another serval...like me." She perked up again and looked at the male, she had never met a male serval before, which was strange to most, but not to her after all, she had spent most of her life being raised by a group of mice.
Chache raised his eyebrows indignantly. “I most certainly would not! I’m not some lion!” His ears titled back as he eyed the little mouse atop her head. No, Chache. No. That would be impolite.
“My apologies, it was rude of me to speak so harshly. I’m sure you didn’t mean it. My name is Chache.” He sat down and began licking the feathers off his bird.

"Uhm..Oh..I'm sorry, please don't be offended." She blinked owlishly trying to regain her pleased smile as quickly as possible. "I didn't think you would eat me, but you know how mice are." She giggles, half heartedly, did he know how mice were? maybe he had never met a mouse he didn't eat?
"Neko'Basu." She purs nodding her head a bit. "is..is this your territory? I wasn't sure if any other cats lived here, the scents are very confusing, sort fo like ours but stronger." She paused for a moment and looked thoughtful. "I'v never seen a lion, do they eat servals?2 She blinks wondering what infact a lion was.
Chache looked at Neko out of the corner of his eye. A serval traveling with mice? She was quite the odd ball. He wanted to chuckle to himself, thinking about how strange this other serval was, but he politely kept his comments to himself. “No. I have no territory of my own. I simply wander as I please.” He smiled as if this were the ideal life.
“Yes, I’m afraid so,” he murmured in response to her question about lions. “My brother was killed by a lion when I was younger. Oh, I don’t mean to frighten you, of course. I have crossed paths with other lions before and it seems that the healthy ones prefer larger animals, like gazelle. It’s the older ones, the rogues you have to watch out for.”

The female cat looked thoughtful, watch out for rogues? How could she tell a rogue from another lion? It was all very confusing. She had lead it seemed a far too sheltered life to know the difference. Maybe she should ask.
"Uhm, well how do i tell the difference? Like, how do you know if a lion is a rogue or not?" She blinks owlishly her large golden eyes fixed upont he male before her. This was becoming quite the leraning experience.
Chache picked the bird up in his mouth and hopped onto a rock where he could see better. He looked around, but the savanna was devoid of large carnivores, for the time being. “I suppose it doesn’t matter. A serval should do his – or her – best to avoid all lions as far as I’m concerned. Even the docile ones would eat you if they were hungry.”
Neko basu swallowed hard. "Eat me?" She blinked though she didn't look too frightened, she didn't think anything would or could eat her but maybe she should take this servals advice, after all he seemed to know the world better than she did.
"Okay avoid lions, that shouldn't be too hard." She furrowed her brow and looked up at the comfortable male resting upon the high rock, "maybe, i should leave you to your meal." She smiles, realising at last that perhaps she had interrupted the nice male serval.
Chache smiled softly at the daft female. Daft, yes, but still a lady to be treated courteously. He bowed his head in good bye. “May the winds lead you to good fortune. And, um, take care of your family.” He stifled back a chuckle.
Nekobasu looked up at the male and smiled a wide grin "And to you too." She puurrs padding off down the path she had been taking. "See that wasn't so bad was it." She grins.
A voice answers her gruff and small "Tch, he woulda eaten you too if you hadn't gotten out of there"
the small cat giggled happily as she leapt away through the tall grasses.
