Everyone has a favorite style of clothing. Be it modern or very old, what styles do you wish would come back into fashion? Do you favor particular types of clothing, a particular era? Loving to get feedback on this!

I love the Victorian and Baroque/Rococo periods, that is one reason why I also love Lolita fashion, it is based around those eras but in a modern sense.
I know that it sounds a bit odd but honestly I would not want styles such as Victorian and Rococo to become popular again because then they would not be as special as they are now, if only a few people wear the fashion it is more interesting and entertaining in my opinion. A portion of joy obtained from having a unique and out-dated fashion is that you get to hunt around for your apparel and when you find something that is "just right" it becomes quite special. If you could just walk into any store and "pick up" something that looks Victorian or even Lolita then it would not be quite the same. Although, there are some stores that now sell things such as ruffled blouses and the like but it is not like some fashions that you could find almost anywhere. xd sweatdrop I am sorry, that was a bit long and I do not know if I made any sense. gonk

I like clothing from colonial times and from victorian times but I don't know if I would want them to be poipular again. I mean I live in a place where it gets really hot in the summer and I can't imagine wearin a dress like that in that type of weather.

Yes.. Victorian is nice. I like it more than my average T-shirt.

Oh, indeed! A fine Victorian gentleman's suit is unequalled and I really would like to see those come back. All of it. The collars, cufflinks, Albert watch chains - mmm, absolutely dashing!

I can't say as I feel the same way about the women's fashions of the time, as I don't relish the thought of a corset. I get the vapors just thinking about it, and I think it says something that they had an entire piece of furniture dedicated expressly to the purpose of being fainted on. But, I do rather like the look and feel of a medieval cotehardie. In my more extravagant moments, I also relish the houppelande.

I would love, for floor length dresses and tudor headwear to come back into fashion. Perhaps mixed with the victorian elegance, in the way things were so intricately made. If i'm honest I would love to wear a french or a gable hood. They've always appealed to me.

Plus with some of the things other teenage girls wear today (aka the those-arent-shorts-those-are-knickers, are-you-sure-thats-a-skirt-not-a-belt, excuse-me-miss-but-you-appear-to-have-the-eiffel-tower-stuck-to-your foot clothes) I think it would be a welcome change.

am I the only one that feels like I was born in the wrong century?

You know, I may make or scour the internet and shops for a floor length wide skirt. I honestly think, those are amazing.

You made me almost fall out of my chair! I feel exactly the same about clothing today, and you put it so well.... *Snicker*

Still laughing, actually. Yep, I agree, wrong century. Me too. The main forum has a topic about that, actually

Well what do you like, WiseWillow? smile

I like dresses from the 40s and 50s that you see on I Love Lucy. Really, everything she wore I would wear myself.

And I like anything before the 20s.

I like Tudor gowns (Elizabethan are a little too much, I don't like hoop skirts very well) and I like 40s and 50s fashion as well. I like Victorian except for bustles. Those do NOT look comfortable.

I like pretty much anything from the 12th through 18th century. I would like any of these styles to come back. I agree with Lhuv-Kerapht about the gentleman's suit.

For sheer comfort, I favor simple stuff, usually very early time periods. Viking, early Celt, etc. For dressier occasions, I still favor comfort and SCA time periods, but later on. Lhuv mentioned the houppelande, which is elegant for a man or a woman. Really, with the basic pattern, the biggest difference is where it gets belted. Men's get belted 'round the natural waist or hips, and women's get belted under the bust. Men's houppes can go from the knee to the floor, and women's often have a bit of a train. Comfort and elegance all in one, can't be beat. Now if I'd get off my lazy behind and actually make one...
