User ImageKa’dairihn shifted, he was getting uncomfortable from standing for so long at the Matron Mother’s side. She had been interviewing mages and guards for days now, and still didn’t seem to be very satisfied with those that she had seen so far. She dismissed the last guard, and turned to look over her list once more, crossing out the guard’s name sighing rather heavily. Ka’da glanced over at the list, and almost groaned. There was still several mages left to interview. He wished it as over with already so he could go to training or go soak in order to release the tension build up in his muscles from the excessive standing.

He didn’t really understand why the Matron needed him there, especially when he hadn’t really been of much use. Sure, so he had been able to tell her if some of them were trustworthy or not. He had also been able to test the guards to see if their skills were what they said they were. But for the most part, Ka'da had merely been a motionless figure next to the Matron.

It was possible, he assumed that one of the men would have tried to attack the Matron, but that was a death wish. She was after all, quite the noted priestess. She would have simply unleashed a curse on any that tried to get close to her, and that would have been the end of the matter. Though she would have had them locked up for her Ka'da's sisters to torture later on. Ka'da shuddered at the thought.

He went motionless once more, as the next mage's name was announced to the Matron. Trying to appear as menacing as he looked. He was, after all, on the large side of males, and very well developed thanks to his training regime that he followed every day. The Matron, seemed to perk up at the sight of the male that entered the room.

By the gods, was he huge! And...rather hairy, which was unusual for drow to be. Ka'da's gaze swept over the other male, as he tried to recall the name that had been announced.

Levin was nervous - which was usual in such a situation - as he stood in line to be interviewed. Being in a well known House such as this one was one thing he wasn't used to. With only three members of his own House left alive (his young brother and sister), it was time to find work and maybe even membership in other Houses. Being a Light Mage, work was sometimes hard to come by, for his class wasn't something that was could always be of much use seeing that Drow could see in the dark, and that light hurt their eyes. Thankfully he was large in size and strength, so he could often find work as a guard or warrior.

All around were other very impressibe Drow: guards, mages, warriors, healers, just about everything. He didn't know what this job would consist of exactly, and what this specific Matron Mother was looking for, but he could only hope that something about him would impress her. As was typical in Drow society, a woman would be overseeing the hiring, so learning to impress women was one skill he had tried to hone over the years. Most Drow women looked highly upon males that had both the strength and the skills to serve them well, and to his own views he had them both. As the number of Drow waiting to be interviewed thinned, it was then that he saw him standing at the Matron Mother's side.

He was large, and extremely well musculed like some sort of body builder, and he had the defined and hard look of a well-trained warrior. Musculature was one thing Levin respected, for he was quite obsessed with the muscles and physique of his own body. For a long while he simply stared at him, almost missing when his own name was called. Swallowing loudly, he squared his massive shoulders and stepped forwards to stand in front of the Matron Mother. Before he spoke, he stepped to one knee and bowed very deeply, his silver hair brushing the ground in front of where she sat. "My Lady, if I may speak," he said before standing slowly, careful to keep his eyes averted from her own out of respect.

Ka'dairihn inaudibly groaned at the rather...appreciative look that the Matron gave the male, as she let her gaze slowly sweep over him.
It was, after all rather embarrassing for him to have to stand there and watch his Matron "appreciate" the bodies of the males parading in front of her. He wished she hadn't insisted on this manner of auditioning, it had to be rather nerve wracking for the males, though they didn't really show it on their features, to be paraded past the rather aloof aristocratic Matron of the House.

Ka'da wisely kept his thoughts to himself, as he discovered the male in question began to look him over. He sighed, outloud which caused the Matron to shoot him a rather steely glare. He settled down, fighting off the feelings of annoyance that threatened to show on his face.

The male stepped forward, bowed rather regally, his silver hair falling forward into his face. The Matron smiled thinly at him, a strange look on her face, as she got a closer look at him.
For a moment the Matron considered the question, then replied.
"You may speak male. Make it short."

Once again he bowed deeply, hoping he was making a good impression so far. "I am known as Levin, from the House of Yethtal," he began, his voice surprisingly soft and deep despite his large frame. "It is a very small House, the only members left being myself and my two younger siblings." After a while his voice slowly started to grow in confidence. "I inherited the gift of Light from my Father, and his Father before him. Though I weave it well, I have been trained in the arts of the sword as well as hand to hand combat." At that his cerulean eyes darted to the male for the briefest of moments to see his reaction, then fell back down to the ground in front of the Matron.

"I don't quite know the details of the job m'Lady, but I vow to serve a Matron such as yourself to the best of my abilities. Whether it be my magic or my sword, I am yours to command." When he was finished speaking, he moved down to one knee again, bowing his head to wait and see if she would dismiss him like a majority of the others, or give him the honor of hiring him on. For now he didn't let himself think too far ahead. If he didn't get this job it would set his family some ways back. Since the loss of their parents, finding a job and living on their own had been a rather hard task for him and his siblings. His brother being rather capricious had not kept a steady job for more then a day, and his sister delving too deep in her own shadow magic hadn't even tried. With an inward sigh he awaited her judgment.

Ka'da was rather surprised with the soft voice that emanated from the large drow's mouth. He had, been certain that Levin would have had a deep tenor tone. Apparently he had been wrong, he saw too that the Matron was surprised at the quality of the other male's voice as well.

She listened to his speech, sliding slightly forward in her seat, resting her chin on her left hand, as she took in his words. Ka'da could almost see the wheels in her head whirl as she mulled over his words. She'd most likely see much more use of this one, seeing as he had two gifts, one of magic and one of combat. He would after all, be much more useful on such a venture into the Underdark, the added work of a Light Mage would be very helpful indeed.

Ka'da momentarily wondered what giftings the male's siblings had. His thoughts were cut off when the Matron waved a hand to the servants of the room to dismiss the other applicants. A slow smile formed on his face. Aha! So she had figured as he had.

"Your...abilities will be a great addition to what I have need of. You're hired. Tell me Levin of Yethtal, are your siblings as gifted and proper as you are? If so, I may extend jobs to them as well. Unless of course, you don't believe them ready for such an assignment. You can let me know after Ka'dairihn has filled you in. Now...I must be off to deal with another manner." The matron replied, with a intrigued smile at the male. Then she rose from her chair and slowly and gracefully strode out of the room, leaving the two males to regard each other.

"Come with me," Ka'da spoke, gesturing to Levin as he too, began to leave the others behind. "I'll tell you about the mission on the way to the armory, every new hired hand gets new garments as well as new weaponry when they work for us. Unless you have weapons in good condition, how are yours at the moment?"

The servants would of course show the other applicants out, and those that had been hired to where they would receive their new clothing and weapons. The Matron usually supplied suitable clothing, nondescript and of a dark bluish gray, as well as new weapons so that the mercenaries had proper well working instruments of destruction. It had always been her way.

"Th-thank you m'Lady, i-it is an honor," he replied trying to keep calm and stop himself from his old habit of stuttering when he was nervous. When she asked of his siblings he was about to tell her of his brother and sister but she didn't wait for an answer before leaving to attend to some other matters. She had seemed interested in him, but males were nothing but servants to Matron Mothers, so he shouldn't've expected her to keep a conversation with him though he had been hoping.

When she left, he stood slowly, dusting the dirt away from the tight black leather that hugged his muscular thighs and legs. Turning towards Ka'dairihn, he gave a timid smile and bowed to the male - not nearly as low as he had for the matron - and followed after him quickly. "To be honest I didn't think I would be hired, so I didn't bring any supplies" he said in his soft tones, his eyes darting to male beside him momentarily. "I have my Father's staff, and a few of his old daggers at home, though I think they might need sharpening. I can retrieve them quickly if need be."

Though it didn't look like it, he was almost going into shock. Never before had a family taken interest in him like this. They had always found some flaw, or found someone better suited to the job. Sometimes it was because of bad relations with his younger brother that a family had turned him down. Thankfully this House didn't know his family, so he would have a relatively clean slate. He could be any one here. "I'm not trying to suck up, but if you would tell your Matron how thankful I am to her I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you as well. I can tell she values your opinions, so you must've seen something in me as well."

Ka'da strode purposefully through the great hallway and towards the training room, noting that the other male kept up with him quite easily. That was a relief to him. Most other males were so short that they had trouble matching his strides or actually keeping up with him. To have a fellow male do so was a rather strange occurrence for Kadairihn. Not to mention a bit off putting. He imagined the fellow would also be able to match his blows with the same if not perhaps a bit more ferocity.

Then again, the male was supposed to be on his side. At least for the bit that he worked for the House of Ja'lithur. He threw a rather faint smile at Levin, saying in reply.
"That's alright if you didn't bring anything. You'll be supplied with newer weapons, but it would be wise to retrieve the staff of yours before too long. You'll have three days of training and assessment before we set out. I like to test the hired warriors out beforehand to see what their skills are exactly and see if I can help improve them in anyway. As for the mission, the group will be escorting a caravan to the city where a fellow consort of my Aunt presides, the items we are escorting are of magical means. If the caravan is upset or attacked and any one piece is lost, it will be bad for us, as well as my House. I haven't really been told what exactly the items are or what they are for. Just that I have to ensure that they get to the consort without anything happening to them.

As for your request, I can do so. It won't be any problem at all. The Matron seems to thrive off of grateful males. As to the question she asked about your siblings, she'll probably ask again at a later period. She just had a few other things that she had to attend to today."

Ka'da came to a stop in front of the double doors leading into the training arena, and turned to study Levin's face.
"How long have you been fighting Levin? If you don't mind, I think I would like to test you now. Unless, you're unprepared."

Levin's gate was quite long so he was able to keep up with the fellow male quite easily. He listened intently, making sure to absorb everything Ka'da said. It was a relief to know that he would be supplied with new weapons and armor, his family didn't have quite a lot when it came to that department. Stopping at the arena, his eyes darted around in wonder. This House was obviously well off if they could afford such luxuries as supplying everyone they hired with new equipment and supplying them with rooms to train themselves. He was quite jealous though he would never admit it openly.

Hearing that the other male wanted to test his fighting skills, his mouth opened with a wide grin, and he cracked his nuckles loudly. "Oh, I'm not unprepared," he said a bit cockily, walking a few feet away to start stretching. For someone his size he was quite limber, and pulled his arms and legs this way and that, his muscles bulging in all the right places. "Well I'm ninety-seven, and my father started training me when I was ten, so for nearly eighty-seven years now I would say. You mite want to shield your eyes though, my style is a little mixed with magic." To emphasize his point, his silver hair seemed to slightly glow, and balls of light started to gather within his fists.

Ka'da watched as the other male began to stretch, noting how limber Levin was. It was rather...almost too much to watch. Ka'da adverted his eyes, but listened to Levin's reply.

The balls of light that shone from his fists and glow from his hair caused Ka'da to squint his eyes slightly. It wasn't too bright, though he knew fully well that Levin would be able to make the light even brighter and practically blind him. To keep that from happening, Ka'da grabbed a sash from the floor that someone had left behind and tied it over his eyes.

Despite the fact that the sash made it completely black Ka'da could still see a slight glimmer of light from the balls of light in Levin's hands. Ka'da discarded the sheath for his sword and swung the sword around a few times, before getting into a battle stance.

"First blood, or first contact?" Ka'da asked, as he got into his dueling state of mind.
PostPosted: Fri Jan 23, 2009 7:47 pm

"Hmm," he said barely pausing, "let's say first blood. That shall make things much more interesting, don't you think?" In a sudden burst of light, he swung his right fist quickly forwards, bringing the other around in a wide arc. His feet darted forwards, and his silver hair shimmered like liquid steel as it flew gracefully around his face.

For someone so large he moved with a grace and fluidity you wouldn't think possible. His large muscles bulged just under his taut skin, and he was beautiful in a cruel kind of way. With a cheerful chuckle he ducked down to knock Ka'da's legs from under him, rising in a single motion. Backing up a few paces he grinned widely, showing his perfect white teeth.

"Come on Ka’dairihn, I know you're good, you're body doesn't hide secrets." Like before his eyes darted up and down the other males body appraisingly. Ka'da was beautiful to say the least, with the amazing body of someone who had worked very hard to get it that way. He was a warrior, someone who was strong and just. Before he let his daydreams take him, he grinned again, motioning him forwards with his hand.

Ka'da's ire was raised at the male. Though he couldn't help but smile. The other had performed the move he had figured he would. Despite the fact that Ka'dairihn had fallen, and they now had several spectators watching, Ka'da didn't let his temper rise and slowly, and fluidly rose from the floor chucking his sword to the side.

"First blood...with only fists." Ka'da interjected. "use your magic if you must."
He rather hoped that the male would take the cutting remark to heart, and not use his magic. Though he also assumed that it was possible Levin would still rely on his magic because it would give him the greater advantage against Ka'da.

Beneath his mask, he let his eyes close, cutting off the blinding light that was emanating from Levin. Then he launched into a counter attack, sailing through the air and struck out with the heel of his left foot his full body weight backing it.
PostPosted: Fri Jan 23, 2009 9:49 pm

He watched with a grin as Ka'da fell to the ground with a loud thud. Hearing what head had to say though about him using magic in the fight, he grimaced and the light emanating from his fists and hair dimmed until there was no light left. His light was an element of his fighting he greatly relied on, for it blinded and confused his opponents, letting him work them this way and that. Without it he felt naked and exposed. "Fine, no magic," he muttered.

Still a little angered about that remark, he didn't notice Ka'da's large form sailing through the air until his foot struck the side of his face, sending him flying through the air. He struck the ground roughly, his hand moving to his lip. When he looked down, there thankfully wasn't any blood on his finger tips. He grinned and stood up slowly, shaking the dirt from his tight leather pants. "Nice," he said appreciatively, rubbing his cheek with his right hand. Within a moment he was striking back.

He swung his fists and legs in a complicated string of attacks, depressed by the lack of light in his movements. He was so used to having every move he made highlighted and easy for all to see. Though he could see just fine in the dim light, he still felt almost blind compared to his norm. "Ah Ka'da," he said between strikes, "you are a very fine fighter indeed." He did a lithe backflip, landing easily on his feet before swinging his leg around to strike as his midsection. "We are well matched my friend, I have never encountered one such as yourself before now."

Ka'da was somewhat surprised when he heard Levin mutter, "Fine, no magic" under his breath. It had to be a bit unsettling for the male to actually not use the magic. Ka'da had figured it was almost second nature for the male to use his magic when he was fighting and hadn't thought that Levin would actually not use because of his earlier comment.

He watched Levin fly through the air and fall to the ground roughly, making a rather loud sound where he landed. Despite the fact that it would have been better for the House and his status for him to have gotten first blood, he was actually relieved when Levin's lip remained intact and unbroken.

Then Levin was once more up and ready to strike back. Ka'da instinctively shielded and parried each blow from the large male, each strike driving him a little further back on the floor. Up until the male did the back flip, Ka'da had managed to out think and almost out maneuver the older male. It was probably because, Levin was conversing at the same time he was striking out with his leg at Ka'da's midsection that distracted Ka'da.

Ka'da took the strike to his midsection with a loud grunt, and fell back; doing a backwards roll on the floor and coming up to his feet in one fluid movement. His chest hurt, and Ka'da was rather annoyed by the constant talking from Levin. He decided that the fight would need to end soon, and without further injury to either him or Levin. Otherwise the Matron would be sorely displeased with him.

Ka'da took the offensive, readjusting his body to face Levin, his arms and hands maneuvering in a graceful motion before he burst into action, flying at Levin with speed and ferocity. His hands and legs flew every which way, striking out as his body followed the ancient dance like fighting style that he had been taught for years. Ka'da's body was in constant movement, never stopping, slowing or tiring as he struck out at Levin.
PostPosted: Sun Feb 01, 2009 7:14 pm

Levin tried his hardest to parry each blow, but one thing he had never really trained for was a fight that lasted longer then a few short minutes. His breathing picked up and his movements became more slow and less graceful. A few of Ka'da's faster strikes got in, some on his body, others on his face. The fight was balancing on a tip of a knife, and they had to fall one way or the other, unless they wanted to continue forever which was not an option.

When he couldn't take anymore, he raised his hands warily, admitting defeat. "I give, I give," he breathed, bending over to rest his hands on his thighs, his large chest heaving rapidly. For someone so large Ka'da was extremely fast, something he had not expected. From now on he would have to train his stamina if he ever wished to keep up with the younger male. It wasn't like he was very old himself considering how long Drow lived, but it would still do well to keep up with the younger crowd.

Ka'da could tell that the fight was nearing its end, the other male was starting to slow down and not react as fast as he had been before. Ka'da frowned. Did that mean Levin had more of a brawling experience? Brawlers would attack furiously with short bursts of energy but would soon tire out if the attack went on too long. Ka'da hadn't figured Levin to be a brawler when he had first laid eyes on him. However it wasn't a bad discovery when one was nearing the end of a fight.

He had figured that Levin would soon lash out, and take him out before he grew too tired and winded to do anything. However, Ka'da was rather surprised and a bit shocked when the other male suddenly stopped, raised his hands and conceded to him. Ka'da stepped back slightly, frowning as he looked Levin over.

"As you wish," He replied running his hand over his face, pulling his blindfold off. "Despite not having very much endurance, you are a good fighter. The matron will be pleased with hiring you. You won't need too much training...unlike the others. Training will begin promptly tomorrow morning at 5. You may either stay the night in the bunk house or you may return tomorrow morning before the training. Now...about those weapons,"
Ka'da more so mumbled to himself than Levin as he strode over to the armory.

He didn't give any orders, but figured that Levin would follow after him so he could pick out what weapons he would want to use. It might be harder to find a uniform for Levin, since he was taller than most, and had broader shoulders and chest than the smaller men. He turned to eye Levin's build.

"You may have to borrow one of my uniforms before one can be made to fit you. We are about the same size, though..you are slightly longer in the torso, and your shoulders are probably an inch thicker than mine. You'll have to get measured so they can make up some uniforms for you before the expedition."
