I just read on BBC.com that David Tennant is not going to be able to continue doing Hamlet b/c he has to have back surgery for a slipped disc. How sad.

Sucks for him, and I was hoping one of our lovely brittish members would sneak a video camera in for us so we can watch it.

WHA? gonk
I heard a back problem caused him to not be able to be in one night's performance, but I had no idea it was that bad! gonk
I sympathize.. I've had weird back problems going on 2 years now, and it's really painful most of the time. I really hope he recovers and gets back on his feet!

Oh, great. gonk Back injuries just DON'T go away. They don't make you miserable all the time, but once you hurt your back, you have to be careful ever after because it's a lot easier to get messed up & in agony all over again. There have been actors & comedians in the past who ended up addicted to painkillers after back injuries in order to keep themselves going like before. DT better be really careful!

I think it may have something to do with him doing a lot of his own stunts on DW... I really hope he stays well and careful about his back! D:

Ouch! OMG! Somebody BROKE our Doctor! eek See, Donna was right--he's too skinny! Somebody must've glomped him too hard! And he's like, 90% spine, he's so freakin' tall, so that's got to hurt. Mebby this is why he's leaving DW? Can't run from aliens effectively w/ a slipped disk? He needs a chiropractor or a masseuse or something, not a surgeon. Once they cut your back, you're pretty much screwed. Well, this pretty much blows to hell any chance of him actually getting the lead in the movie version of the novel I've just started. Of course, if they filmed in America I'd get stuck with Jim Carey anyway. I'm in a bad mood today already, and the thought of our pretty little DT ending up like most of the whiny, flabby, "I can't, because of my bad back" folks I've met makes me wanna cry. Must sign off Gaia. Must write fan fic, in which the Doctor's back is fine despite all the strenuous, erm, gymnastics he's been performing behind the scenes with River Song. *takes deep calming breaths*

(most of the time...... :S) And while a massage would feel very nice, it would only be temporary... = no Hamlet still D: And don't worry, there's serious pain, and then there's whiny flabby people who complain about everything. David's most definitely in the former razz Woah me too, how many with back problems is that now?! Except mine is kind of... indirectly a back problem... bad back due to bad joints. Close enough.

Back pain is the worst. I have two herniated discs in my lower back that flare up periodically. It's extremely painful. I can only imagine how bad it must be to have to have surgery. eek

sad
I'd hate to have surgery on my back.. I generally don't like hospitals, either. D:
Yeah, back pain is pretty awful.. I imagine I've got mild back pain compared to some of what I'm hearing here, but having it on any level is painful. sad
