Well, I'm kinda late, but the next president of the USA is going to be our first African-American one! Regardless of who we supported during the election, let's see what we may be able to predict for the next four years...

On a scale of "strongly opposes" to "strongly supports," Barack Obama...
Supports the fact (because we all know it is =p ) that global warming is significantly caused by human pollution.

Is neutral on international measures to reduce carbon emissions like Kyoto. He believes that Kyoto was flawed because it didn't restrict China's or India's emissions and plans to design a smaller agreement between the G-8 countries to eliminate GHG pollution.

Strongly supports giving money to alternative energy. He plans to require that 20% of the USA's energy consist of sources like wind, solar, biomass, and geothermal energy. He supports nationwide biodiesel for our fuel supply.

Opposes domestic drilling for oil. He would support limited offshore drilling. "Voted YES on banning drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge" 2005.

Supports carbon taxes/credits (if your business takes measures to reduce your carbon footprint, you get a tax deduction). Claims to "place a low carbon fuel standard that will take 50 million cars worth of pollution off the road."

Is neutral on the issue of nuclear energy. He doesn't believe that it's "the best option," but does support "[exploring] nuclear power as part of the energy mix."

Strongly supports making American car manufacturers obey a fuel efficiency standard.

Supports protecting natural places from urban encroachment.

Is neutral on efforts to recover and conserve endangered species. He believes that the ESA should be "updated and improved" by "moving past rigid ideological positions" so as to appeal to its opposition.

Supports investing in public transportation.

I hope I did a good job of being neutral. I apologize in advance for any reflection of the damage my Northwesty liberal Democratic area has done to me. >.< lol

All in all I think Obama is more eco-conscious than McCain (especially more than Palin...Dx) but there are some issues that I don't completely agree with. =|

Hehe I know all of us are probably already super sick of this year's election and glad that it's over (I know I am) but since this is an environmental guild, I figured I'd examine our next president's environmental policies.

What do you guys think?

Personally, I'm more concerned right now with the worldwide income tax and the mandatory civil service I keep hearing about.
