Yep. I fail at keeping plot twists a secret. Just remember, only one of my three feline characters is going to know the truth behind all of this. So, if talk of character pasts come up in the main RP you can expect that things will clash with this... Even if the one possessing the knowledge is the one talking.

And before you think horribly of my first post; Yes. I planned to be brief with the intro. I suck at openings to anything. So, yeah. Nothing detailed for you. The three in the title are the only important ones in this, anyway.

It wasn't often that anyone stumbled upon the feline village nestled into the deepest parts of Yasha's Forest, let alone something outside of their species. In their days it was not uncommon for a human to be killed upon sight, and in any other part of the continent the man likely would have had his throat slit before he could have gotten a mile into 'enemy' territory. The war may have been over, but the tensions were still high between the races.

Though, for the most part, the humans hated all other races. They were the biggest reason that most animal tribes had sought territories that were as secluded as this, something that the humans did not want for themselves, or something they were unlikely to try and explore.

Battered, bruised, filthy and starving the human male had quite literally fallen into their midst. One of the locals had found him unconscious along the outer edge of their village, and in a panic had run from the scene to alert the guards.

It really was a wonder that he wasn't dead already, but even more shocking was when one of the elders of the village demanded he not be put to death.

"Others will surely come looking for him. If the humans discover that we have shed this man's blood, do you not fear that they will come with their armies and destroy our home?" He had explained, and urged that they instead help him, and send him back to his people once he was able.

Not a one of them could have imagined that this very human would insist to repay them for their kindness, and for sparing his life. Awkward and suspicious as they might have been at first, little more than a year passed and he was still there. Most in the village grew accustomed to his presence, several acknowledging him past a mere tolerance, and eventually the human seemed to form friends within the small population.

It was really no surprise to the felines, after a couple of years, that he ended up choosing a lover of their species; A young tuxedo-type feline. Despite a handful of the villagers that spoke of how unnatural and wrong such a union was, the feline and human were happily married.

As could be expected, in due time they conceived a halfbreed child; A son...

The sun was high in the sky and shone brightly into the small clearing in the trees upon the small feline village. It was barely the twelfth hour of the day, though a handful of the men had already returned from their hunting trips, most carrying sizable shares of game with them as they headed home or to the shops to share, sell or trade. Amongst the numerous, a trio walked along together. A large Abyssinian feline carried a young doe carcass over one shoulder. Along one side of him a human, himself carrying a pair of pheasants and a rabbit, along the other side the human's hybrid son. It wasn't unusual for boys around the age of seven or eight to accompany their fathers to learn the ways of hunting; Though just as typically they came home with little to nothing since the child would sooner goof off than pipe down and observe.

"Thanks for sticking with us today, Gabriel. I really appreciate it."

"Don't mention it, Wilhelm. I know that you'd have it rough if you were trying to hunt and keep your son in line at the same time." Gabriel chuckled, and ruffled the boy's hair playfully. "Think you've learned enough to do this by yourself tomorrow?"

"Not by myself..." Yuki replied, giving both of the men a strange look as though they may have been seriously suggesting it. They both laughed.

"I'm just messing with you, Yuki." The feline assured, "Don't worry."

They'd stopped by the butcher before making their trip across the village to home, to have the game cleaned and cut for them, leaving what they expected not to use themselves for those who may not have been so lucky today. Afterward, each carrying their own share of meat, father and son parted ways with Gabriel to head home for lunch.

"If you see Deacon before we do, tell him he owes you one." Wilhelm called jokingly just before they crossed the threshold of the shop, bringing a chuckle from Gabriel.

"He owes me more than one, this isn't the first time he's skipped out on a hunt." He waved a hand dismissively, "I'll pester him for you. Say hello to Kukiko for me."

The walk home wasn't particularly eventful, aside from casual conversation between the two about whether or not Kukiko might have lunch ready by now, how the boy had enjoyed his first day out hunting, down to if he'd like to go again the following morning (to which he quickly agreed).

The cheerfulness barely lasted ten feet into the door.

"We're home, Kukiko!" Wilhelm called, stopping at the door to unlace and remove his muddy shoes. Yuki had quickly kicked off his own and gone speeding off toward the kitchen with his small package of meat in tow.

"We caught a deer, mom!" He had proclaimed. Wilhelm heard his son's rushed steps make an abrupt halt, and the second of silence that followed sparked concern. "Mom?" The confusion in his son's voice urged his father toward the kitchen worriedly.

His wife was standing over the counter, chopping vegetables. Or, it looked like she had been. Currently, she merely stood there, knife lying alongside an onion that had been cut in half and nothing more. Hands braced on the counter top, she hadn't even acknowledged their presence, her head was lowered to gaze at the cutting board and her long, black hair had fallen forward to hide her face from view.

"Kukiko?" Wilhelm questioned, almost cautiously. He reached out gently to grasp her shoulder, and recoiled quickly when she gave a sudden start. She drew in a sharp gasp and swiftly lifted her head to look at him, eyes wide and bloodshot. She had been crying, and her tears had nothing to do with chopping onions. But that wasn't what disturbed him the most...

Her face was swollen and bruised, and her lower lip was covered with dried blood.

For several long seconds, he stared in shock. Her frightened breathing led to sobs and she brought her hands to her face, the long, thin sleeves of her gown sliding down her forearms to reveal pronounced bruises circling her slender wrists. She would have collapsed to her knees had her husband not been there to catch her. Wilhelm looked down to see the panicked look upon his son's face and finally found his voice; "Go and get the doctor!"

Yuki barely took time to nod in response, before he'd made a mad dash for the door.
