Who here likes to sew? If you do, then how do you sew? By hand or by the horrid machines?
I love to sew. I have sewn pillows, my own cotsumes for dances/plays, I made my homecoming dress(Which looked a lot like the ones you'd see in the 1800's), and a few other things. I sew by hand...and only by hand. I hate those machines!!!!! They scare the ever living snot out of me. It's okay if you guys like to use them, but they scare me.

I very much enjoy sewing as well. Personally I sew both by hand and by machine. I find sewing by machine rather similar to driving a car (but that's probably just me).
I've made a number of historically inspired outfits (Victorian, Renaissance, etc.) and I've had to use both methods. Generally I prefer machine, but sometimes the little tricky areas are just easier when completed by hand. Unfortunately my hand sewing is very, very slow.

Hello!
I love to sew as well. I used to create renaissance gowns & medieval costumes. Until my back & neck started hurting too much. I used mainly my sewing machine, I would only hand-stitch the beadwork.
I can hardly believe that anyone could have the time to make entire gowns by hand-sewing them! Wow, you must be amazing. biggrin
I now sew skirts, knee length to mid-calf length. They are much easier on my back. 4laugh

Just because I dress in princess's clothing... Ah, I love sewing! I usually sew by hand, but that's because I'm too slow to learn how to use the antique sewing machine my father bought me, heh. I usually sew stuffed animals, purses, aprons, baby blankets, and last summer I made a full bed set fit for a kitten (:
. . . doesn't mean I won't feed you a poisened apple.

AH! I love sewing. But I'm new and bad and lacking of experience at it. So I'd appreciate it if anyone could pm me some suggestions, tips, information, or pictures of what they've done as inspiration. I'd be ever sooo greatful.
Hand only. I have a machine, but I HATE using it. IT drives me nuts and hand sewing is so much easier to take out if necessary.

I enjoy sewing. I have yet to get up enough nerve to try hand sewing, though. I want to get one of those lovely treadle machines.

I sew and love it. I use a machine usually but handsew deatails and closers. I've done mostly costumes some with patterns and some without. I'm going to be working on my own designs soon. I get a dressform tomorrow afternoon.

I use both methods because I sew clothing for everyday use I use a sewing machine. Then with other items that I try to be period correct I sew by hand. Hand sewing also gives an item a more personal touch like doing embroidery instead of purchasing a trim.

I love to sew I have an antique sewing machine by singer I got it at an estate sale. It really does sing. Seems like there are no limits when you have the ability to create right at your finger tips.

She is my IDOL! She's the only artist that is most like me with my style and music. If you'd ever like to strike up a conversation about her I'd gladly reply. biggrin I've been sewing for a while and I like to use machines. It's more accurate and easier for me to use. Preferrably, I LOVE to make corsets. I don't krap out on them either, I use boning that is as close to steal as I can find. Right now I'm working on a black one with neon green lacing. The corset is done and wearable, but I still have of yet to put on the lacing...my machine broke... crying This is just a note to everyone....please please PLEASE don't use plastic boning. You can't call a shirt with a bow and plastic on it a corset...I want to cry every time I see those.

Yay sewing! I do as much as I can get away with by machine, and then do hand stitching for everything else. I've made several Ren Faire outfits and some Medieval garb as well. I want to do some middle class Elizabethan some day, but I don't think my budget can handle it right now.
