Ok, so I'm second chair trumpet, and in my band, we sit next to the baritone section. This means that our first chair sits next to the last chair baritone player. Well, our last chair baritone seems to have just picked up the intrument yesterday, and the guy sitting next to me, our first chair, is very sensitive to sound and is a bit hyper tensive/freaks out easily over little mistakes.
Now, this baritone player is a good kid, but he obviously can't read music. He tries playing anyways, which I guess, is how you get better, but our first chair is always freaking out about it, and since the baritones and trumpets are in the same key, he often plays along, which sometimes helps, but rarely. I keep telling the first chair to calm down, and once our assistant director gets done play testing the rest of the band, he will come back in and play along with the baritones, which he always does since they're the smallest section and in need of the most work.
My question is, has this ever happened to you? Is there someone in your band that gets so worked up over a person who can't read/play music? And I mean litterally everyday, he leans over at least five times and is like "OMG I can't stand it! It sounds soooo bad!" Do you guys have any problems with sitting near other sections that may be just a little 'less than perfect'?

The saxophones. They suck, and it almost seems like its on purpose. They forget every musical change daily. Keys and time signatures and tempos mean nothing to them.

Trombone hero, that sounds like everyone in my band other than low brass. =/
But seriously...there's a girl in my section who can't play anything at all. I seriously think about killing her at times. She sounds like a first year player and she didn't even know what note a G was during band camp. Plus she always tries to 1-up me on EVERYTHING from grades, music, popularity, friendships, relationships, clothes, hair/makeup, anything you can think of. And I always win. I seriously switched sections to get away from her. She's a senior so I'm just gonna deal with it. But her "sabotaging" my life is seriously getting annoying. Even more than the playing.

I play bass Clarinet, so I am always put with the Saxaphones. I don't have a problem with most of the saxes, exept for the Tenor player. Since he is the lowest sounding sax in our tiny band, I am right beside him. I WANT TO KILL HIM!!! scream The kid is overly obnoctious, and never knows when to drop something. Once he sprayed water on a clarinetist's back. Since her back got wet, i jokingly said she was a w*****k. I never ment anything by it, but stupid tenor boy decided to be a jerk and said I was racist. (let me just point out that this clarinetist was not even mexican). Even this would have been ok, but he would not drop it. Anytime he could, he called me a racist, and even said "I don't want to sit next to a racist" and sat next to his girlfriend insted, who was not it band, just sitting in the bleachers by us. The Sax section leader saw this and told him he couldn't sit next his girlfriend (commen band knolage) and also had to sit with his section. In the process of returning to his seat, he passed in in front of me and yet again called me racist; so, my anger for him at it's limit, I took the opertunity to push him down the bleachers. He didn't fall far mad and proptly told everyone that would listen that Ashley the psyco rasist emo chick tried to kill him. No one would listen, however, they all believed he deserved it. mrgreen He still brings up the instance as much as possible, and our section leader has to intervine to prevent a fight, ie, me punching him in the face. Just so you all know, I'm not a violent person, nor a racist (I'm hispanic myself) the damn kid just pushes all my bottons. Only have to spend three more days with him, thank god. rolleyes Season ends Monday! cry

I play Bass Clarinet and Tenor Sax in our concert band, so it's hard for me to bash on the tenor, he's toooo cute. Buuuut... the Bari sounds horrible. I think he's been playing bari for six years, and although I've only played it for two years, I sound better than him! The 2nd chair Bass Clarinet is really obnoxious. He should be voted off the island. He makes me flip the stupid music, even though lower chairs have to, and I'm first chair!! ARGH.

We don't really have that problem in my band...the sections are all pretty equal. But if you do make a mistake you will not be allowed to forget it for a long time.

I sit next to a tenor saxomophonist, who happens to be my best mate. Its pretty funny. Often if shes got a crappy boring part, we'll swap parts to see if the BD notices. He's only ever caught us once. Its pretty kool to hear music with the parts switched XD

My ears died D: Ohh, my. I know how loud a flute can be. I sit to the left of a bari sax player in band. (I'm in the saxaphone class because the flute/clarinet class is during advanced math. =P) And he's constantly complaining about how he can't hear. =/ I try not to, but yea it's hard. Oh, and sometimes, I get distracted when the clarinet's play too pritty...
