It had only been a few days since Michael received that rather odd package at his door. Initially he thought it was a dream, but the box and egg still remained where he had left them. Having had some free time since he had a couple days off, he had been spending a good amount of it with trying to find out what this egg was exactly.
Google, as he suspected, provided absolutely no information on the strange egg. So it was time to do some field work. Or at least attempt to do so.
There were two places in mind that he thought of trying. The pawn shop was closer to where he lived, so that was his first destination. The pawnbroker might know something about the egg, and if that's the case, he may also know what it's worth or something along those lines.
So, carefully, he placed the dark red egg into his backpack and headed on out into the chilly late morning air. The place wasn't too far away, so he didn't bother driving the distance. And before long, he had stepped through the doors of the pawn shop and walked up to the front counter.
"Hey... do you know anything about eggs with wings and clouds?"

"Mistress, I do think it would be best if we went back to the Manor and released Master Piero from where you placed him. He did not look pleased at all when you shoved him, bound and gagged, into that small room and then pulled the knob out of the wall."
Pasayo was being lead down the street by her hand, her gaze turning over her shoulder every few moments to glance back at the large Victorian manor that was slowly disappearing from her sight, and she frowned ever so slightly as her gaze returned to the woman before her.
Today Rown had insisted that the pair of girls do a little more 'society visiting' while she happened to be in town on 'business', her plans to introduce Pasayo to a wider grasp of the world than Piero would ever be willing to do so, and when Piero had objected the older woman had used her will over the house to force him into a small subspace and take Pasayo with her.
"I do believe he will run out of oxygen before we return, and I do not wish to have my Master be dead upon my arrival."
Her protests were on deaf ears as Rown continued to tug her ahead, heading towards some random buildings in the distance.
"Ey, 'e'll be fine so don't you worry 'bout it. That man can 'andle more 'en 'is fair share of punishment, trust me."
Rown spoke and turned to look at Pasayo, a grin spreading across her tanned face. She had stopped in front of a door, one labeled with the sign "PAWN"
"Today yer goin' ta be learnin' 'bout the barter system."

"Winged eggs on clouds? Do you mean something like this?"
The Pawnbroker turned around to grab something off of a nearby shelf. When she faced Michael once more, she held out what looked like a small paperweight that looked like a chicken with feather wings towards the top. The shelf she had grabbed it from had about two others just like it, amongst other trinkets and such.
For a moment, the guy stared at it before shaking his head.
He then carefully brought his backpack off of his shoulder and set it on the counter. Once he took the strange egg out, he set that down before the store owner, hoping she might know a thing or two.
"My... this is interesting..." she said while peering closely at the egg, "But I've never seen anything like it. Where did you find it?"
Shifting slightly, Michael sighed slightly while looking down at his odd finding.
"It was delivered to me actually. There weren't any labels or anything on the box though. I don't suppose you have an idea of how much this thing is worth do you?"

"I donnae care if yer not wantin' too, but yer goin' inside an' learn the rules of sale an' buy."
The door was pushed open by a woman with startling bright purple hair that was pulled up into two buns, tied in place with a gaudy neon green ribbon. She was dressed in, despite the clearly chilly autumn weather, a neon green string bikini top that sported rather large purple polka dots here and there on it as some kind of design. Her pants were nothing too special, only regular jeans that were patched here and there with some cloth scraps that sported rather interesting designs that were very similar to runes. On her hands and arms she wore large brown gloves that ran entirely up to her shoulders, stopping only under her armpits, and they looked to be made of a fine type of leather. She wore simple flip-flops, the kind one would wear to the beach, showing of a set of toes painted the same color as her top and ribbon.
"'kay, see? Yer in now an' ye dinnae die or anythin'."
She was speaking to a figure behind her who also sporting a strange hair color, though the most shocking thing about her was probably the color of her skin and the markings that decorated it. She was dressed far more sensibly than the woman who was talking to her, sporting a sweater and some khakis, and it appeared right away that she had not wanted to come inside the building.
"An' look, see? Someone is makin' an exchange as we speak, so pay attention to 'em and see what it is they be sellin'."
Rown was referring to, of course, Micheal and his questions to the pawnbroker. Neither she nor Pasayo saw the egg...yet.

Before answering her current customer's question, the Pawnbroker glanced up as a pair of ladies stepped in. And for a moment, she thought there was something wrong with her glasses as the younger of the two appeared to have black skin and white stitch-like markings by her mouth. Slightly shocked, she waved lightly at the two, and greeted them.
"Ah, welcome. I'll be with you in just a moment," she said before turning her attention back to Michael. Maybe when she looked back at the girl she would appear normal again.
"A strange package there. But let me have a closer look..." she said softly before gently picking up the egg and examining it.
After a few moments, she set it back on the counter and shook her head. As she did so, the egg shifted slightly on its own, as if reacting to something in the area. But neither Pawnbroker nor Michael took notice.
"As far as I'm aware, this is as good as worthless. But it does look rather... interesting. Perhaps it's some obscure but inexpensive piece of decor. I'd say it's not worth more than fifteen dollars."
Frowning some, Michael glanced down at the egg, currently paying no attention to the newcomers in the shop. And he wasn't really sure if the Pawnbroker was trying to rip him off with what she had just said. But then again, this egg was pretty much left at his doorway. If it were really expensive, the person that left it probably wouldn't have done that.
"Whoever made this... sure did a better job with crafting it for it to be worth fifteen dollars. I mean... look at the fire pattern! And how the heck did they pull off those clouds? Or the wings for that matter," he said. Michael had several good reasons to believe that this egg wasn't 'crafted' but he figured he may as well go along that track while he was here. He really wasn't sure how he would explain that this egg may actually hatch into something in the future.

At the mention of an egg and wings Pasayo'd eyes grew wide and her head turned quickly away from whatever it was she had been looking at (a book perhaps) and a panicked expression graced her fine features. It was only when the egg moved around on its own that she even noticed there was something inside the room, her heart not acting as strange towards it as it had towards the other Ashe she had come across, though it may have been because the egg was of a different court - fact she did not know, of course.
That is....!
She was about to say something when she felt a desire not to, more like her upbringing telling her to remain silent unless she was spoken to (which she had not been), and she bit her lower lip as her arm reached out in place of her words. She dared not touch the man or the egg, her body fearing the reaction that it may cause, but lucky for her Pasayo's silent strife was being watched by a person who was more than willing to say something loud.
"Oi, if ye donnae be wantin' that egg I'll buy it from ye instead, if yer sellin' that is. Not every day ye sees a Fae egg 'round these parts, least that's what my friend o'er here says."
Rown's loud voice broke over Pasayo's silence, the woman walking up to the counter and standing next to Micheal. She was still a respectful distance from him considering they were strangers, but she was close enough now to see the object that the stupid woman behind the counter had only priced as fifteen dollars. In any other place she knew the man could probably get any price he named for the item - but only to those who knew what it was. And yes, Rown knew.
"Name yer price fer it and I'll give it to ye, no questions asked. I've always been wantin' a Fae o' me own ever since my little cousin got one and seein' as ye got one ye donnae be wantin' it seems like I'll get me chance."
Not that Rown would actually buy the egg, more so being that she did not thing this man was honestly interested in selling. She had spoken up with the offer to set Pasayo's mind at ease since she could almost feel the unease leaking from the teenage Ashe.

"Hm.. I suppose you're right..." uttered the Pawnbroker while peering at the egg.
Shaking his head lightly, Michael sighed somewhat as he was really getting nowhere with finding any information here. At least that's how it was originally before he heard a woman speak up from him. Turning around to face her, he quirked an eyebrow at what she had said.
"A fae egg? So that's what this is?" he asked while tilting his head slightly and glancing at the egg, "What's so special about them? It's not like faeries are real right?"
To be honest, he was slightly disappointed. Michael was really hoping that he had found something along the lines of a dragon egg, if the thing were to really be able to hatch into a living thing. Blinking somewhat, he stared at the egg with some curiosity.
The Pawnbroker was a bit bewildered at the lady's statement, and was even more skeptical of her than Michael was.
"Now surely. This is no "Fae egg" as you say. That egg is much too large to house something as small as a faerie. This egg would be more likely to be a fae egg if it weren't a paperweight," said the Pawnbroker while holding up the paperweight she had fetched moments ago.

"So ye think I be lyin' then? I'd be offended o'course except fer the fact that the girlie with me came from one o' those eggs."
Rown turned and snapped her fingers as Pasayo, causing the young girl to jump as she had been startled by the sudden noise and address. Slowly she took a few steps over and closer to the pair, showing the Pawnshop clerk that she was not indeed imagining things, that her skin was black as pitch and very unnatural at that. Her markings were not painted on and they did not look like tattoos either, instead appearing more like part of her natural skin, and now that she was closer it was obvious as well that her hair was all natural and she did not wear colored contacts to create the strange fuchsia she sported.
"Now can ye still tell me that ye donnae believe in Fae? When ye got one right 'afore ye?"
The woman grinned and grabbed Pasayo's hand, causing her to protest slightly but allow herself to be drawn in closer. The younger girl smelt faintly of Ashe and lavender as well as something akin to sandalwood, and as she walked closer it seemed like she was giving off some kind of odd feeling - a feeling like you could not turn your eyes away from her.

Michael's eyes widened somewhat as the woman mentioned the teenage girl with her to be one from an egg like the one he owned. Not only was that fact a bit surprising, but the girl's appearance had caught him off guard as well. He ignored the statement made by the Pawnbroker, and shook his head lightly in disbelief.
"I.. I'm sorry," he said, not entirely sure what to say.
So fae were real. And he apparently had a fae egg. In most circumstances, he still would be skeptical of what was said, but the way the girl looked wasn't exactly normal for a human. But it made him wonder if all fae were like that or what.
When the female Ashe stepped closer, the egg's wings twitched and it seemed to lean towards her some. When the Pawnbroker saw this, as well as seeing that her eyes were not deceiving her, she stepped back from the counter.
"What... are you..?"
Again, Michael ignored her, keeping his attention on the two women.
"So... it'll hatch into someone like her then? But... why would a fae egg be delivered to me in the middle of the night?"

"Man, rude much? Dinnae I just she's a Fae, or are ye deaf as well as dumb?"
Rown placed her hands on her hips and glared at the sales clerk, already planning in her mind how to get revenge on the woman for addressing her darling Pasayo as a 'what' instead of a 'whom', and moved her fingers in a strumming motion as her plans worked themselves through. She did not mind if people said bad things to her, she was used to it what with her family's special 'mark', but to have them insult Pasayo based on her appearance was unacceptable.
"An' fer ye, yes. That egg'll hatch inta a Fae though a wee at first, but it'll grow. An' as ta why ye got it in the middle o' the night, I dinnae. Piero got 'is from the wind on 'is way 'ome from work, so no set time."
Pasayo squirmed a bit under the gaze of the two new strangers, though she found her own eyes drifting towards the egg that seemed to be leaning towards her. Now that she was closer she noticed the feel it gave off was much like that of Rioge, an elder Ashe she knew, and she tried to place what that meant. Toulouse had said something about him . . .

At the remark, the Pawnbroker simply fell silent. In an attempt to forget the current events she turned around and began to dust some of the artifacts on the shelf behind her. She seemed to be uttering various things to herself, but it was inaudible to those around her.
"I see..." started Michael, who was slightly confused as to why he received the egg in the first place but at least he had more of an idea of what it was now.
Does this mean I'll have to deal with a kid soon..?
"Ah.. sorry, my name is Michael by the way. Um... if you don't mind... could I ask you a few questions about this? I just found it a couple nights ago and haven't had any luck with learning about it until now."
He felt a bit odd, needless to say, about all of this.
"Though if you're busy, I understand."

"Not so much busy, but ye be needin' ta talk to 'er instead o' me if yer wantin' ta know 'bout that egg. She 'atched outta one so she'd know what yer goin' to be expectin' pretty soon."
Rown jerked her thumb at Pasayo once again to make her point, and after a moment she sighed and opened her mouth in a mock yawn. A bright silver tongue was the sight that would greet anyone who was looking at her, the rest of her mouth a normal color, and she quickly closed her lips together after she finished. Pasayo did not react at such a sight, to someone who was not expecting such a thing it could be considered just as odd as the girl with the pure black skin.
"An' the name's Rown, if yer wantin' ta know it. Rown Halifax, an' this 'ere's Pasayo, a niece of sorts. No last name, jus' Pasayo."
Rown grinned and licked her lips slightly, nodding with her head for Pasayo to give her proper due and take over where she had left off. There were things Rown needed to be doing before they could leave the store, and if Pasayo was speaking to Micheal it meant she could get what she needed done.
"It is a pleasure to meet you. Please, feel free to ask my any questions that you may have and I will be more than glad to answer them for you with the best of my abilities."
The young Ashe teen bowed her head politely while folding her hands in front of her, that strange feeling coming off from her body once more to draw eyes again to her stance. If at all she knew what she was doing the girl was probably very unaware of her small ability, though it seemed powerful enough.
"Do go ahead and ask me anything you will."

Nodding to Rown, Michael turned towards the girl as she spoke for the first time in the shop. As he looked at her, he blinked slightly and tried to keep himself from staring. He wasn't sure what it was exactly, but despite her rather strange appearance, she was quite attractive in her own right. Aside from the fact that he wasn't really the flirty type, she was still too young for him to even really start thinking of attempting to 'pursue'.
"Nice to meet you as well Pasayo. I don't suppose you remember what happened right after you.. er.. hatched? Since.. you were probably a baby at the time right?"
The thought of himself carrying around a baby was a bit.. unsettling. Hopefully fae were a little less needy, or the poor kid might have a bit of a rough time growing up.
"And by the way... you're quite a pretty young lady," he added, feeling the need to compliment her as well.
After finishing dusting off a few things, the Pawnbroker turned back around. Though she decided to do what she could to ignore the strange folk that were in her shop. Even so, she still glanced over at the one known as Pasayo every now and then. She supposed she was 'pretty', but she felt that she was more strange than anything else.

"Ah, thank you....very much."
Pasayo's face moved into a smile at the compliment she received from Micheal, unsure why it was that after most people stopped staring at her they found her...pretty. Someone had even told her that she was 'shockingly beautiful', whatever that meant, and it seemed like for some reason even the pawn woman who had been so unsettled by her appearance no longer was giving her terrored looks.
"To answer my appearance after I hatched, I was that of a young child around the ages of two or three, never an infant. My rate of growth was naturally accelerated, as I appeared to be that of an eight-year-old child by the time I was only eight weeks old. As it stands now, I am barely four months old and appear before you as a young woman of seventeen."
If she could recall she knew that the Ashe were trying to rebuild the Fae race as quickly as possible, hence why everyone grew so rapidly in such a short amount of time, but to a normal human her explanation probably sounded a little...ludicrous.

The answer was a little bewildering to hear needless to say, but Michael figured that things wouldn't be too normal considering how strange things have been so far. Still, the fact that Pasayo is actually around four months old was a little hard to swallow.
"Wow... That's.. really fast but does that mean you'll be an old woman once you're a year old?"
It was a little relieving to know that he wouldn't really have to deal with an actual kid for too long. But he still wasn't so sure how he was going to go about and handle everything on his own. Even with the accelerated growth, he thought the whole thing would be a little overwhelming to deal with.
"Why do you age so fast though? And... why aren't there a bigger presence of Fae ..? You'd think with that sort of aging there'd be more around.."
The egg on the counter continued to lean towards the Ashe. Its wings twitched about slighty as it sat there.
