Kaemara stayed perfectly still, her coat hidden against the dark, piled hay. Her heart was beating like a drum in her ears, and she was unsure whether it was fear or adrenaline.
It was a large dog, by the size of the shadow cast across the floor, and she was almost frozen, unable to lift her head from her paws.
Rambling questions ran through her mind, distinct and reprimanding her.

They were known to attack pets.
And even with her being a bigger breed, she was too gentle to hurt a thing in defense.
Slowly, she raised her head from the hay, her ears perked forward, and violet eyes staring back at the unknown, forlorn figure that stood in the entrance to the barn.
