Ever think about what genre your next piece is going to be set in? How about trying to transcend genres?

Samurais in Space! Or a Sci-Fi Opera? Sometimes the most unlikely of mixes can create the coolest things!!

What are a few of your favorite genres? What mixture and blend of styles makes you go "WOW"?

Sci Fi Opera works great, I mean come one, who doesn't have the Diva from the 5th element on their ipod???

I do like a mixmatch of things, and especially when it comes to the culinary arts. Lets face it, I was born in raised in a family and culture of Mexican food, spicy food, and the works.. so when it comes to any kind of food out there.. be it chinese, italian, you name it.. I still cover it with a good slathering of habanero or cayenne sauce just for good measure. I'm thinking that once I become a chef, I can study all over the place in several different countries and then bring it back here and make a great mashing of cultures. Curry cheeseburger with fried rice anyone?...ok that might be a bit much. But you never know!

Oh, I am SO going out to dinner with Brian, someday. I just love spicy food. I grew up with peppers and spices and herbs. I'm just now teaching my beau about herbs and spices. He says his Mom didn't even start using salt or pepper until he was in high-school. (UGG!!) It's funny. I just COOK, you know, I don't measure anything ever (Unless I'm doing something like... Baking... A cake, biscuits, etc.) so it's hard to try to teach or tell anyone what I do. So really, I just make suggestions and let him practice. That's the best way to learn, anyway.

If I am following a recipe or baking then I am pretty precise with measurements.. when I'm just wingin it.. eh a pinch of this, bucket of that..it works. Some people think a little spice goes a long way but I don't think it's possible to really over spice foods....unless you simply obliterate something like a steak with nothing but salt and pepper... that can be a bit overwhelming. But things like turkish bay leaf, cumin, and cayenne..bring on the backhoe.

I'm Irish and have acid reflux so I don't do overly spicy or hot foods, but I will take a light curry cheeseburger please. With bacon and avocado. One of my especalities actually.

Eric does massive amounts of salt. Call me crazy, but I've never been a salt fan. Seasoned salt is good, but other than that.... uhm... no.

Depends on the salt in my opinion. Whether it's fine or coarse, rock salt, sea salt, whatever.. But salt should be used in moderation.. it'll dry out your meats as well as your mouth. But to each his own I guess.

Transcending genres that reminds me of our one project for class. We had to choose a fortune cookie at random and whatever it said we had to make a piece about it.
One of them was really awesome it was something like: A starship ride has been promised to you by the galactic wizard. lol!
That would be a fun thing to do. Mine was: Your first love and last love is self love.

That's such a neat idea, though.... I mean using a fortune cookie to inspire a piece.

Something that grinds my gears: Hey, I dunno about other parts of the country, but the fortune cookies here, suck, now. Fortune wise. All restaurants. They're no longer "fortunes"... They're just random, poorly translated babble. I did have one forever that I carried around that mentioned parsnips, though...

Parsnips are cool.
