Since we need more forums for discussion, and we're an artist guild, I was wondering what styles of art you guys liked, and/or what artists?
Me, I'm pretty good with most things. I prefer fantasy art or midieval artists, but I also love Escher, Dali, and ....crap...., never write a forum topic at five am with but a few hours sleep.... The guy who Giger. That's his name. H.R. Giger.
I'm also a huge fan of Dr. Seuss' art. Way cool.

I'm going to really have to think about this one lol... there's too many people I can name..too many paintings, drawings..poems.. ugh. I don't think there's any kind of art that I'm not a fan of.. if something just catches my eye or my ear.. I'll take heed and appreciate it; unless it is in completely bad taste.. I love all sorts of styles from the very simple, yet completely beautiful Japanese style they used to do with pens on old scrolls, to abstract, surrealism, portraits, graffiti, perspectives, still life, and yeah..this list can just keep on going if I let it.
I can't say that I have any truly favorite artists. With every artist I have some pieces that I like, and some I absolutely hate, but I can't simply say that Starry Night is better than Giger's Birth Machine.. Unless two artists paint the exact same thing and were trying to pull off the exact same thing.. well then who am I to compare apples with onions.. (I never understood comparing apples to oranges.. you can always say which one is the better fruit and why.. but how can you compare a fruit to a vegetable??)
I do have to say that The Scream is one of my favorite pictures, mostly because of what inspired Much to paint it, and the other paintings in the series. A volcano had erupted in the southern pacific ocean and the ash and smoke in the air drifted way up to the northern hemisphere and turned the sky all kinds of crazy colors.. and in this particular instance, the red hue of the sky filled Munch with such an overwhelming sense of dread and horror that the outcome was the Scream and the series it is part of.

I have to agree with Brian. There's lots and lots of things that appeal to and inspire me. I especially like Impressionistic, Post Impressionistic, Abstract, and Surreal painting... A few favorites of the top of my head are Monet, Cézanne, Van Gogh, Picasso, Dali, Klimpt... And about a hundred others. I also love photography. Music, I lean (generally) more toward the mellow acoustic side... Probably because I grew up listening to my Dad play... And speaking of S.C., he's probably about my most favorite photographer. If either of you ever get bored check out http://scdixon.com... Click the gallery link and check out some of the limited edition stuff... There's not a whole lot up there, but it'll give you a taste.

Awesome stuff guys, and thanks for the link Ak. I keep hoping these little brain storming sessions I have for forums will bring our members back.... *shrugs*
Plus it's always nice to find out what moves a fellow artist. Oooh I now know my newest topic!

I hang my head in shame. I know I reiterated time and again that there were more artists that I worship then could ever be mentioned, but I didn't mention ANY of my literary gurus (like Lewis Carroll) and I didn't even list John Tenniel in my list of artistic gurus. People have been executed in some circles for lesser crimes then these.
Oh, I am so very ashamed of myself. BAD ASIA! BAD!! emo

Food magazines inspire me..
Thrice it has happened where I was walking in my usual endless circles at work and a magazine happened to catch my eye.. Then the drooling starts, then the buying of the magazine, reading every article...and every recipe.. eating a few pages..and then the cooking starts. I just picked up another one because it had the most outstanding picture of a way ridiculous chocolacoma cake and I just had to have it. It was a 4 layer devil's food cake with peppermint icing...and I must make it. Plus there's some 80 other recipes that are going to be put to very good use this holiday season.

Down Lyssa! DOWN ATTACK CAT!
From Carroll, my own is:
"Would you tell me please, which way I ought to go", asked Alice. "That depends a great deal on where you want to get to", said the Cat. "Oh, it doesn't much matter" said Alice. "Then it doesn't matter which way you go" said the Cat.

Thanks.. I read entirely too much. I used to have a piece of paper as a bookmark..and every time I'd run across something I liked I'd write it down. I think I should do that again..

I'm a chronic reader... And I'm starting to get a little freaked out because the kidlet doesn't seem all that keen on reading... And I've been reading to him since we brought him home from the hospital... I don't understand it. sad When I was that age I'd drag picture books around the house and try to get ANYONE to read to me. Ah, well, if he's still this way by the time he's two, THEN I'll worry, I guess.
That's an awesome idea about the bookmark. I keep a log of stuff in a Word document... Random quotes, words from foreign languages that I like the translations for, even little short (like a paragraph) bits that have happened to me or pop into my head... Crap, mostly, but stuff that appeals to me.
I found this in there: I'd forgotten about it, so I'll share.
“Deeper meaning resides in the fairy tales told to me in my childhood then in any truth that is taught in life.” --- Fredrick Shiller

Hmm that quote reminds me of "The Book of Lost Things". Excellent read.
I didn't really like books when I was growing up..now I have to be reading one all the time. Soon as I put one down I pick up another.
