How important are lyrics when you consider music? Will you not listen to a band with "offensive", cliche, or just plain stupid lyrics? Will you think a lot more of a song and be more likely to forgive its musical flaws if you like the lyrics? Or do you not really care, only listening to the actual sound?

i will listen to just about any lyrics (it's really the music that turns me off to a band) but i like a band a lot more if they have good lyrics to go along with good music. in the case of poets like bob dylan or richard hell, sometimes the lyrics will make up for an overly simple musical piece.

Do to my personal convictions and a bit of eye opening from someone I decided to not listen to any music that demeans God or praises Satan. That's about the only thing that affects me though. Violence, war, suffering, eh, whatever, but if it puts down my Religion, I pass it on. I do love cheesy and cliche power metal lyrics though!

I don't really mind, but I always prefer good lyrics. I really like fantasy related lyrics though like power/folk/viking metal

Lyrics matter to me. A whole lot. I generally can't stand a band if it has what I deem to be stupid or meatheaded lyrics. For instance, I do not like AC/DC. Though I also have little love for them musically, their shallow c**k rock lyrics don't help any. I'm willing to tolerate a little of it if there's some substance to the rest of the material, but an entire albumful is a no-go. And even if I think a band sucks musically, I'm willing to give them some respect if they have thoughtful lyrics.

I'm with Warrior and Mega here, though. Power metal lyrics blow...

Lyrics don't matter to me, I'll listen to anything that talks about anything.

As long as it doesn't demean my faith, I usually don't care. So anti-religious or anti- Christian lyrics are a no go.

I can respect anyone for not believing my faith (if they have a legit reason) but I hold ZERO respect for anyone who puts down any religion.

Great lyrics definitely add to the music, but I haven't stopped listening to a band simply for the lyrics.

My opinion goes with what Warrior said. As long as it does demean my religion I am good with it. Although I do not like lyrics with a lot of sexual content in it.
