To make it evolve -
- Upload the egg stage. [Name is something like, 'DragonBlue1']
- When it needs to go to the next stage, delete the egg stage.
- Upload the next stage.
- Change the name to [DragonBlue1]

Whoever has your evolving item will then have the second stage. :]
Hope I helped you!

sorta...kinda...yeah...

So let's say you make evolving/breedable pet line that goes from egg->baby->kid->teen->adult.
You have a prettyful egg that I buy from you. You send me the egg and i'll keep it.
Then, 1 week later, you sat that the egg should hatch into it's baby form. You'll make the baby form and then send that to me.
You keep doing that until the pet reaches it's final stage.

You can also do what DarkStar said, and have the customer direct link the pet. This way, you don't have to keep sending the evolved stages.

And yeah, the pets tend to be the same line art with different coloring/designs so that they're unique and stuff.

Direct linking is basically where, instead of saving it to my own server, say my Photobucket, it stays in your's (your Photobucket, or whatever). So, if YOU change the pic on your server, what I have changes, with minimal effort on either of our parts. It's a lot easier than sending a new pic to the customer every week or whatever, and having them save it to their own, etc. Then, you just let them know when it's completely evolved, and give them X amount of time to save the final to their own, if you want to clear your Photobucket (or whatever) out ...User Image

I hope that made sense. I'm running on less than minimal sleep.

Yes, basically. That way, they don't have to change their link, and the picture will automatically (to them) update itself, as though it "grew."

This works best if you make an announcement in the thread and/or thread title letting them know it grew, so that they can see all the intermediate stages if they don't have it in their signature.

So.

Scenario one, direct-linking:

1. You create the egg picture.
2. You upload it to your file host. (photobucket, imageshack, tinypic, your own server, wherever)
3. Person A buys it.
4. A week (or two, or whatever) passes.
5. You delete the egg image from your host, and replace it with an image of the baby that has the exact same file name.
6. Person A logs on to find that the image has updated itself with the new growth stage.
7. Repeat steps 3-5 until the final stage has been reached.
8. You give Person A a week or two to save the last stage's image to their own computer/file host, then you delete it from yours, if you want to.

----

Scenario two, non-direct linking:

1. You create the egg picture.
2. You upload the image to your file host. (photobucket, imageshack, tinypic, your own server, wherever)
3. Person B buys it.
4. Person B saves the image to their own file host, and uses that link to show it off.
5. A week (or two, or whatever) passes.
6. You make an announcement in the thread and/or the title that their pet has grown, and post the image in the thread or PM it to them.
7. Person B logs on to see the announcement/PM, saves the image to their host, and updates their own link.
8. Repeat steps 2-7 until the final stage has been reached.
9. You give Person B a week or two to make sure they've saved the final image to their own server, then you can feel free to delete (or not) the file from your own host.

The difference, basically, is that in scenario one there is no worry about broken links because the owner didn't realize that the pet updated, and you went and deleted the picture from your file host.

However, in scenario two, if you have an archive, the links will never be broken, but if the person never comes in to the thread to check, their pet will never update itself. It puts some of the responsibility on the owner, so that you don't have "buy and runs."

Speaking of archives, many B/C shops have places where they will keep the past stages of all the pets, but that's not necessary. You could also keep them on your computer, and then if someone asks for the previous stages, just repost/resend the files.

( Edit- I just realized the date of the last post of this thread. >o>;;
But yeah, just wanted to make sure this directlinking growth process could be better understood?
If it is, feel free to delete my post. owo;;; )

On the part about deleting the original stages --
You don't have to delete the image from the photobucket (or whatever you're using to host the image files), you can just rename it. XD
That is, if you'd still like to keep it in the photobucket, just in case. But most people end up having a lot of images in their account. So they save/make space by deleting the previous stages.

The main thing about direct linking is the image URL (link) you give to the owner. Whatever image is named with that exact URL at the moment, shows up wherever that URL is being used. (For example, placed in between IMG tags.)

Say, you have a two-stage pet.
You'll have two images of the pet in your photobucket.
Name them something like 'DragonBlue1' for the 1st stage and 'DragonBlue2' for the second. ( Taking from Pure-Dark-Star XD )
When you give the link to the owner, you send them 'http://imageserver.com/DragonBlue.png' (example)
Do this after renaming 'DragonBlue1' to just 'DragonBlue' to match the URL the owner will have.

After a week or whatever time has passed, go back to photobucket.
Rename the first stage ( currently named 'DragonBlue' ) back to 'DragonBlue1'.
Then rename the second stage ( currently named 'DragonBlue2' ) to 'DragonBlue'.

After this is done. Say, you've posted the original stage image somewhere in your shop thread when you first gave the image URL to your customer. When you go back to look, you should now see the 2nd stage image. owo
( Sometimes, if you look right after renaming in photobucket, it'll be the first stage image. Photobucket just needs a little time to register the change, and/or your browser is still using old-but-recent information. So people suggest refreshing the page to make sure you see the 2nd newer image. owo )
