There was simply nothing more frustrating than restraining oneself. Especially when one had the urge to roar their throat sore.

Well, unfortunately, Subira was in that mood right now. Though it was rare for her to get frustrated, the few occasions when it happened usually did not have a pleasant outcome. Even more outrageously, the blue lioness had been so irritated that she no longer remembered what had been frustrating her in the first place.

Anyone who crossed paths with her now would have to prepare themselves.

Oh how Hak'Zhakuu would sympathize with Subira, if only he knew how she felt. The need to scream his repressed rage out to the world, to run and run and fight until he felt the anger and vengeance soaked out of him. But he wouldn't. He couldn't. Things had to be done quietly, secretly.

As it was today, Hak was in a rather decent mood. Knowing he was free again, and had a plan assuaged most of his ire. He'd waited years already, a few more weeks or months was nothing. So he went across the savanna, head high, lips pulled into a smug smile.

He was still grinning faintly when he came across the blue lioness, and he paused long enough to dip in a small bow to her before disregarding her for a look around to get his bearings.

Subira narrowed her eyes at the stranger before her, trying her best to keep her cool. If she exploded now, who knew what kind of trouble she'd land herself in. But how dare he simply look away? The nerve of this male with his odd, seemingly-glowing pink stripes.

Nevertheless, the female bowed her head slightly as well, in an attempt to be her civil self.

"Hello," she began, her voice rather strained.

Hak'Zhakuu's attention was pulled back to the passing female when she stopped and returned his gesture, though with none of the civil good nature he'd given it. Well, he was nearly amused by that. He paused in his roving glancing and refocused on the female. Still, he seemed half distracted, though he did deign to offer a kind, "Hello, can I help you my lady?" Distracted he might be, but that didn't mean he had to be rude.

She studied his nonchalance with narrowed, vacant eyes. The strange glowing pink designs, the dark mane, the strange eyes. Certainly a different fellow, he was nothing like anyone Subira had ever seen.

At his voice, the lioness seemed to relax, punishing herself silently for acting such a way towards a stranger. But still, she couldn't help but feel her insides bubbling. This feeling simply was not going to go away on its own, was it. Subira took a sharp breath, inhaling and exhaling to level her mind. To regain control and discipline.

"Nothing that you can do, sir," she replied, struggling to keep a straight tone. "What brings you to these areas?"

Ahh, so she was willing to be social. And in a civil manner too it seemed. That was splendid. He stopped his searching about and regarded her with a gentlemanly smile. "I am attempting to find my way." He dipped in a bow again, more formal and friendly now that he was in socialite-mode.

"Forgive me, my lady, I've been a cad and not introduced myself. I am Hak'Zhakuu, a...traveler, of sorts." He would do his best to be polite. Something seemed to be distressing the lioness, and he felt mixed curiosity at that, wondering how he could get her to share her troubles, and wanting nothing to do with another burden to add to his own.

"Ah, are you now?" The lioness gazed at him with a blank expression. Where could he be going?

When he introduced himself, she couldn't help but give a fain smile as she too imitated his actions. "I apologize for my current behavior as well. My name is Subira, not a traveler really, but then again, who isn't on these plains?" She wanted to take her mind off her feeling of impending doom and be as nonchalant and seemingly carefree as this male was. Why couldn't she let her frustration go?

"I don't mean to pry, but what are you searching for?"

"Subira." Hak'Zhakuu bowed again, obviously in the habit of being nothing but courteous. "Not at all! I'm trying to find my way home. I left my pride several years ago to make my self into a better lion, and I'm afraid they may have gone and moved without me. That or I've been gone longer tan I thought, and forgotten how to get back."

He took a step towards the female, catching a hint of some emotion in her. "Are you troubled, My Lady?" Regardless of names being shared, he still felt that he did not know this lion well enough to be so informal.

How intriguing. A lion who tried to improve... his worth. At least, that's how Subira interpreted it. She looked up at the male, her gaze meeting his own. When he took a step forward, the lioness subconsciously jerked backward even though she was now confident that Hak'Zhakuu had no intention in causing her any harm.

"Oh, uhh," she stammered, hoping that she hadn't offended him by her sudden action. Still, Subira couldn't decide whether telling this male was good or not. "It's nothing, sir," she sighed after a moment's pause. Still, she hated to keep him in the dark. Subira narrowed her purple eyes towards the ground, frustrated with her indecision. Finally, she blurted,

"Do you have a fear of anything, sir? A fear that seems inescapable?"

Hak'Zhakuu stopped abruptly. "I'm sorry if I startled you." He felt a twinge of mixed concern and irritation. He didn't mean any harm, but then she couldn't know that for certain. Still it had been an unintentional gesture it seemed, and she was distracted besides.

He waited patiently while Subira thought about her troubles. Would she share them? It seemed so. "Do I have a fear?" That was a hard question to answer. In truth there seemed to be little to fear that had not already happened to him. Wrongly exiled from his pride, beaten and dragged off to be made a slave in a far away land for years. His body had been crushed, and then his spirit too, until his day of salvation. And now that he had learned what had been the cause of his punishment he couldn't even make his way home to take his revenge.

"I suppose I fear being unable to do the things I have to do." His escape had been enough of a miracle that he felt assured that what he had planned was the right thing to do. What had he to fear with the blessing of the Gods hovering about him so thickly? "Has something frightened you, my Lady?"

"Mmm... I guess one could write it off as paranoia, I don't know," she shook her head, more abashed than before. "Y'see sir. It's not someONE that has me running with my tail in between my legs," she frowned at the phrase, but continued. "And I don't really know if it's curable and I know it sounds silly. I'm frustrated, sir, because..."

The normally patient lioness paced hurriedly back and forth, unable to tell Hak'Zhakuu what her issue was. The darkness was her downfall. But it was silly, she knew. Subira was confident enough to do anything... in broad daylight. Most other lionesses she knew were perfect in the dark, capable of doing more at night, but her. It was disgraceful and humiliating and she abhorred her fear. Yet there was nothing she could do.

"The darkness is everywhere," she sighed, halting and sitting on her haunches. The bubbling feeling was dissipating and it must've been because she'd let it out. Progress. Joy. Subira merely waited for the laughter.

"Not someone?" Hak'Zhakuu settled back on his rear, tail swishing absently as he watched Subira pace. She surely must be distressed, to talk with such...well he wouldn't call it passion, but intensity. As to if her fear was curable...well he'd have to know what it was before he could say. But if anyone would know how to overcome such a thing, he felt it was himself.

He had to admit he was surprised when she finally came out about her fear. The darkness? That was...well unusual for certain. Lions often hunted at dusk, and they could see well in the night. They had little to fear, or at least, he had thought so. A distant memory drifted up through the haze of his mind and he quickly repressed it and the shudder it brought. There were things that lurked in the night, that came for you in the quiet confines of your den, to hunt your mind and drive you mad.

But they could be overcome. And the first thing needed was comfort. It might be beyond his usual range of actions, or be normally offensive to the lioness, but at the moment it seemed appropriate. He stood, took two swift steps towards Subira, and butted his head against her in a sort of comforting pat. "You fear the darkness? You are not the only one, I assure you. But what about it, specifically, frightens you so?"

Subira's eyes widened in surprise at Hak'Zhakuu's sudden action, but his following comments allowed her to relax her muscles. She smiled serenely, thankful for his reassurance but was still wary of her fear. It only came to her just then that she had been grumpy due to her lack of sleep the past couple evenings.

Her mind rewinded to a previous meeting long ago with a peculiar male - one who had instilled much more... credibility into her fear. He'd been one with darkness, as silent as shadows, as black as the night. It was as if he had controlled her mind in that single meeting, and it made her fur bristle just thinking about it.

"I've had... a little run-ins at nighttimes," she started. "It's rather hard to explain... But I thank you for today."

Subira put on an apologetic smile, trying everything in her power not to be vulnerable and weak, but talking about the darkness made her fear it all the more.

Hak waited patiently while Subira reminisced. He knew bad memories when he saw them. Indeed, something had happened, she admitted. That was no good, and he nudged her again.

"Would you want to share?" Oh, she seemed ready to leave...A shame, but it was her choice.

He frowned at her look and bated at her falsely. "Don't be ashamed of being afraid. Everyone fears something, it's not unusual."

The lioness shook her head, not yet ready to relive through that experience once more. She would be eternally grateful to Hak, and perhaps, the next time they'd meet, she would have the courage to open up and share her past with him. But now wasn't the time. She took his words to heart, feeling much better about her fears. Talking to someone was much easier than it seemed. Subira looked up at the larger male and gave one final smile.

"Thank you," her purple eyes said it all.

And with that, she took her leave and went on her way.
