"You guys finally got it right, you stopped bickering about the little things."
An atheist told a lady that. The lady is part of this huge christian group that helps other people, and shows the the love of christ. The group gets tons of churches in the area to join, and people call in for help (LOVE INC), and then the caller connects them to a church, or an agency that could help them. Thats not the point though. An atheist was watching this lady do something for another lady, and he asked what was going on. Well they explained it to them and he laughed and said that.
That means we are doing something wrong. If other people view us as bickering amongst ourselves, they won't want to be part of that.
Are we turning people away from God because a few of us can't agree on some things?
How can we show others the love of christ if we can't show it to each other and live in harmony?

Very good points. eek All too often, I think people forget the two commandments Jesus holds us to in the NT: love God, and love your neighbor. That second one seems to be particularly tricky, especially if so many people are failing to see what the true mission of a Christian is. We need to live our faith out loud, on our sleeves, and there should be no doubt about Who we serve. How can we show others the love of Christ? We must love God first, and the love of our neighbors will follow naturally. We need to stop bickering about the meaning of this verse and that verse and who's going to Hell and this and that and the other thing (all very important, but trivial by comparison) and focus on what God- GOD- has called us to do, and that is LOVE.

My pastor showed this video a couple of months ago, and it asked random people on the street of chicago or something what they thought of Jesus. Now, most of the people responded, "loving" "savior" "prophet" now, the same people the next day, asked random people on the street what they thought of Christians, the same area of people responded "hypocrites" for the most part.
The theme of the video is... If Christians acted more like Christians, there would be more people in the Kingdom of God.
The legalities don't really matter as much as walking in Love, as Jesus did. If we walked in Love, there would be no reason to bicker. Because it wouldn't be about making the other person see what they were doing wrong, it would be about making them see the Light, and making them WANT to follow it. smile

But, then, how many of the people who judge all Christians as hypocrites have gone out of their way to first of all understand Christians beyond the popular stereotype portrayed and reinforced in popular media and amongst their own non-Christian social networks? How many of them have had one 'bad' experience or encounter with a Christian and stopped at that?
One can aim to be Christ-like and still be persecuted and suffer prejudice by non-Christians. Jesus promised that his followers would be hated because of him.
Being peaceful with others relies as much on us as Christians to be Christ-like as it relies on others to see us as real people and not objects of hatred.

Truth. However, we still have a long way to go, it seems, in order for non-Christians to realize that we aren't all Bible-thumping, narrow-minded, overzealous bigots. confused

Denominations are a good thing, fighting is not. Different denominations give people a chance to worship God the way they want. I've heard a lot about people wanting to mix them together and make one Christian church. I don't believe that though because people's personal beliefs might be compromised. Example - I worship on Saturday. I believe that in the 10 commandments it says to worship on the 7th day, that is something that should be kept. Most Christians, however, (I will take this moment to point out that I have nothing against them even though I dont' agree with it...) worship on Sunday.
There are a lot of people though that are claiming to be Christians and aren't. I don't know if that's something we can fix or not, that is their own Christian journey that they are working though. What we, true Christians, have to do is reach out to the people that are hurt by the hippocrites. By showing Christ's love through us, we can reach them no matter what the true non-Christians do. That is the point of being Christians, to share the message with others.
