 A rainbow was off in the distance, proof that the rain was gone and that the sun would come out sooner or later. The storm that was now leaving had blown in yesterday, and when he had woken up the sun was peaking through grey clouds and the rain has subsided and had become a light mist. Alik had slept through the night on the beach during the storm, cradled by sand and rain pelting his back. How he slept through the thunder and lightning, he didn’t know, but it hadn’t taken much effort to fall asleep.
The waves were calmer now, and the sand had dried considerably since he had awoken, and he sighed, taking in the salty air and he gazed at the rainbow, its colors making him happy but not any less lazy. So he lay there, and watched at the rainbow disappeared into the sky and he watched as the sun waged a battle against the clouds and drove them away. It gradually got brighter and his eyes quickly adjusted to the light, his gold eyes shining in the brightened day.
As he glanced around his site, he noticed something a little far off to his left was something sticking out of the yellow sand…something sparkly. His eyes widened and he finally got onto his feet to walk a little closer to the sparkly object that had grasped his full attention.

Katrina woke up, and streached out her limbs. She had grown stiff huddled in the little cavern, as there had been only enough room for her to get in if she curled up tight. That hadn't stopped the wind from ripping at her though. She shook her head, and her hair settled into place, gleaming and shinning. She had done away with the products and the styling long ago, now she opted for the pretty natural look she had been born with, and simply adored it. She shook the sand off of her bracelets on her legs, and carefully groomed the feathers in her tail. Looking down to make sure her final piece of jewelry was in order, she gasped, and screamed. Her necklace was gone!!! It had been a gift from her father, Ooooh, what was she going to do. Frantic, she began combing the beach, looking for even just a long quill off of it, or perhapes even the shine of the abalone at its center.

Closer and closer he walked towards the shining object that looked very out of place in the sand. Upon reaching the spot he saw that it was in fact a necklace of sorts. The part that shined was silver and it was attached to some red strings? Beads maybe? He didn’t know but Alik had never seen such jewelry.
He dipped his head down and pushed his nose against it, unearthing the rest of the necklace from its sandy hiding spot. Lifting his head he tilted it and studied the object that was laid out before him. He liked it, and it reminded him of his father’s coat. The color of it at least. Just the thought of his dad wearing this piece of jewelry made his face break into a smile. But now to wonder, why was it just laying here? Did someone lose it? Should he find the person who lost it? But that would take so much energy. What to do, he didn’t know.

Katrina wailed unhappily, she had searched this entire beach from stem to stern, and there was no sight of her necklace! She curled up on the sand, rocking back and forth, moaning to herself. She opened her eyes a crack, and saw that the sand extended around a spire of rock, maybe there was more beach beyond that! The thought lifted her to her feat, and she frantically galloped around the spire of rock. She skidded to a stop, sending particles of sand flying everywhere, as she saw a stallion. He was holding up something very shiny in his mouth, and a wild gasp escaped Katrina's lips.
That was her necklace! Where the heck had this stallion gotten it?! She stalked towards him, hair flying in the morning wind, and snatched it from his grasp. Delicatly, she dipped her head under it, and it fell down her neck to settle at its base. She looked at him angrily and said, "This belongs to me, no finders keepers Mr!" As she stared at the stallion, her eyes met his, and she gasped and looked closer. Could it be? She gave the rest of him a once over, and it was, it was him!
She said in a soft tiny voice, "Alik?"

Anger quickly clouded his eyes as a mare came running towards him like a bat out of hell, tugged the necklace from his mouth, he wasn’t even holding it that tightly, and somehow her curly hair hit him in the face. Red clouded his vision and he glared at the mare, it wasn’t like he was going to keep it…maybe. But he didn’t act out on his anger and within seconds it was like his mind was swept clean of any irritation and he was back to his cool self.
He studied her with a critical eye, glancing at her curly hair and how the red stood out so well against her coat. Realization hit him between the eyes and he blinked. She called his name and he easily responded. “Katrina, is that you?” She had grown to be a lovely mare, and it seemed that her attitude was still there.
