The sun seemed to be peeking over the mountains, like a game of peek-a-boo. The sky was lightening quickly, chasing away the darkness in the sky from the night before. The moon had already disappeared but if you searched for it, it could easily be found. Carolina tried to wake up this early, but usually failed miserably. Today when her purple eyes opened she realized that dawn was just breaking and that she could watch the sun rise for a change. Often she awoke to the sun being over her with the suns rays beating down upon her. She rather liked this waking up early, she should try it more often.
The sun was slowly moving away from behind the mountains now, and the sky was now a light blue. Clouds filled the sky, and it looked as if rain would be coming shortly. Lina sighed in contentment, and she let the cool morning area fill her lungs before letting it all out in a long exhale. The day would get steadily warmer, so for now she would enjoy this temperature.
Her ear flicked at the sudden sounds of birds chirping, and she blew one of her bangs out of her eyes. That might be the only thing about morning she could do without. Birds were nice and all, but they were loud and they easily split whatever silence could be had with their loud shrills. Carolina trolled her eyes and moved away from the tree that she found herself leaning against, and started walking toward were the sun was rising from. What to do today, what to do…

Sparkles had never enjoyed the dark, it had frightened her since that fateful day in which she had nearly lost her life. The aid of a bear had saved her, but she had never truly forgotten the rather uncomfortable encounter. As a result, Sparkles often drifted into a slumber while it was still light so that she didn't 'feel' the darkness approaching. It was a shame really, given that she often missed the sunsets but to balance it out, she never missed a sunrise - ah yes, this particular mare always woke up early.
As a result of this habit she had long since grown accustomed to the rather abrupt trill of certain birds. Much like her, these avian creatures preferred to start their days early to avoid interruptions from other creatures. They would feed their children, clean their nests or on certain days they would hunt for mates. Such was the noise that her ears would swivel once to accept the existence of the birds before they were systematically 'zoned out' to become nothing more than a soft lull against the serene backdrop of a new day...
Ah yes, the unicorn couldn't help but provide a warm smile of admiration as she cast her gaze upon the dew lined grasses that lay before her. Tiny droplets of water cascading from the leaves above her head as every facet of life gave a stretch and creaked it's eye open to watch the rising sun. She was of no exception, joining an audience of many as she turned her rose gaze towards the slopes where the sun very slowly began to creep out from it's bed. Her smile deepened considerably though as the beams of light began to brighten up the world - black, white and grey transforming into a world of vibrant colours. Greens, pinks, browns... The transformation was a sight to be hold and one she would always hold dear to her.
Nevertheless the sun soon finished it's morning show and with a soft sigh the unicorn nudged her way out of her tiny grove towards the plains. She only had to step out a small amount to breach the forest, but even in doing that she could sense the tell tale sign of heat on her coat. It was just as well she was so pale! To think of the hassle that those with dark coats endured was really quite uncomfortable...
Alas, she drifted further in to the meadows without little care for that which lay around her. Her immediate concern was to locate something to eat before she began her daily rounds. She was a social creature, but she also knew how rude it was to have a growling tummy while conversing!

Already the heat of the day was upon her and she was thankful for the light breeze that drifted over her, ruffling the loops of her hair and making the folds in her dress sway and hit her legs. The sun had risen rather quickly, and she hoped someday to watch it rise again. Once away from the tree, she had walked only minutes before finding herself in an open and grassy meadow.
With grace, she leaned down to the ground and took a whiff of the lush greens, still wet from the dew that morning brought, and it filled her senses. Smiling, she took a quick bite, to see if it tasted anything like it smelled. It tasted of earth and water. It was a unique taste, and although it wasn’t to be her favorite, it was still acceptable.
Her stomach made a protest at how little food it was getting and she sighed. Although there was enough grass to last a lifetime, she ached for something sweeter or something less…green. Searching would help, but how was she to know that she might have found what her stomach was searching for? Purple eyes closed in concentration if only to think of an idea of how to get something sweet and to get it soon, and to help chase the oncoming headache away.

"Tada!" She announced to no one in particular, striking a dramatic pose as she came to rest beneath the apple tree. There were a few scattered across the meadows, sporadic in their appearances. There were orchards around but they were often so busy that acquiring the best apples was difficult. As a result, the unicorn always sought out the more obscure locations to feed and this afternoon's choice came in the form of this particular apple tree. Given that she hadn't visited it in a number of weeks she was sure that the most succulent of the fruit had matured by now.
Bracing herself, the mare began to circle the tree and inspected a potential weakspot. She was against the idea of hurting such things too much, but a sufficient amount of force was required to knock the apples from the tree. Thus it was after a brief time that she located weakened bark in the tree and bowed to it. A soft apology and she turned her back to it, preparing herself to launch a rather abrupt attack upon the plant. Given that she often visited it, it had no doubt prepared itself (or so she hoped) so that the impact from her hooves wouldn't be quite as severe.
"Hiiiiiii yaaah!" she announced loudly, her voice carrying across the meadow as she bucked and slammed her hind legs into the tree. It made a loud 'bump' that echoed shortly after her voice before sending shockwaves along the trunk. There was a delay in which Sparkles took the opportunity to inspect her hooves and then at last a shower of apples fell about her hooves. Sure enough they were newly ripened and sun touched to the extent that they almost seemed to give off an inviting glow...
Oh ho, she was a happy camper!
Her smile deepened considerably as she lowered her head to nudge at one of the apples before digging her teeth into the skin, immediately savouring the sweet juices that began to seep from it. Ah, there was nothing like a nice apple to start proceedings in the morning.

A loud noise echoed across the meadow. The sound was odd and made Lina’s ears twitch and her tail flick. Turning in the direction that the sound had originated from, she took a few steps in that direction. Should she go see what made the sound? What if it was hurt or something? Really though, whatever had made the loud noise didn’t sound like it might be hurt, but it was probably a good idea just to check.
Nodding her head at the internal decision she started making her way towards where the sound had come from, leaving her “breakfast” of healthy grasses behind. It was always possible that there was something better on the other side. A few minutes of walking passed in what seemed like a few seconds, just one hoof after the other, and finally she saw a tree in the distance.
It was a rather large tree, seeing as the first thing she saw of it was the leafy green tops that made up the upper portion of any tree. As Lina got closer, the rest of the tree revealed itself and at the bottom of said tree stood another soquili, bright against the brown bark of the tree it stood under. “Hallo! Hare you the one that made that loud noise?” She called out to the other soquili as she got closer.

Sparkles immediate response was to lift her head, apple still in her mouth. The overall affect was a rather comedic look, the apple resembling more of a large round nose than a piece of fruit. However, as her pink gaze caught sight of the other mare she promptly dropped the apple and allowed it to roll about. Eventually it propped itself against her hooves and remained stationary - perfect given that it was in reach of the mare when she next wished to dine upon it!
A soft smile lined her features soon after, crafting her expression into a pleasant one as she fixed her gaze on the mare properly. It was just as well that Sparkles was so tall, with the aid of her height she was able to take note of the other mare's unusual appearance. Apparently she was another of those Soquili who wore strange material over their coats - one soquili she knew in particular even had gold rings in his hair! To each their own she supposed, those she did have to admit that the other mare's appearance was that of subtle beauty despite all this.
"Uh..." It wasn't the most eloquent of response to a question but Sparkles did slowly recall what she was referring to. It had been the unicorns battlecry against the tree trunk of course and after a few moments she gave a good natured giggle. "Oh that! Yes indeed, the tree and I were just sparring..." she explained gently, canting her head to the side. "The prize was apples, care to try some?"

Upon closer inspection she saw that it was a mare that had made the deafening noise and if that wasn’t funny enough, when the mare looked up, it looked as if an apple had taken over her face. Lina let out a small laugh as she continued her way to the mare, stopping just before she walked under the trees branches.
Apples littered the ground, looking delicious and just the thought of biting into one made Lina’s mouth begin to water. Truly, they looked like a feast compared to what she was going to subject herself earlier to. Glancing back at the green her body shook in revulsion before turning to the mare with a horn.
“Apples sound delicious.” She smiled and took a step towards an apple that was lying innocently on the ground. She leaned down and picked it up with her mouth and took a large bite from it, letting what was left of the apple fall back to the ground. It was sweet and she let a smile appear on her face. “It’s very good.” She said after a few seconds. Glancing at the horned mare with her purple eyes she asked, “What’s your name?”

Sparkles had always been terribly good at finding decent foods. No matter where she went in the world she could find something that was suitably more tasty than the grass. Whether it be a berry, a fruit or something that looked like salt but wasn't salt. One might have enquired as to how sensitive her nose was but really she was just that damn lucky, horribly lucky in fact to the point that to some extent she should have been dead. The spirits clearly loved her in their own way, though it helped that she was a tad eccentric and seemed to fit with their criteria - for some reason the spirits only targetted those who were too serious.
"Name's Sparkles, but most call me Sparks," she shrugged her shoulders loosely and offered a warm smile as the mare sampled the fruits. They should have been at their sweetest at this time of year, ripe for picking and with just the right texture. Sparkles was rather unsurprised that the mare did enjoy the apples, really she would have questioned her sanity (ironically) if she hadn't. "And you are?" she continued after a few moments, coiling and uncoiling her tail around her hind leg as she inspected the mare.
Really she seemed relatively demure, sociable in her own right but not quite as loud and bubbly as Sparkles. It made for conversation but not odd conversation which in a manner of speaking might not have been such a bad thing for the pink mare. "And you know you can always try tree sparring yourself if you like the taste - takes a bit of practice but you get it eventually!"
